Partition it, saves hassle in the long run.

Whilst hardware failure is rare and total, an OS screw up is less rare.

Try with this scheme:

140 Gb to 200Gb for system, remainder for data.

Before you put data back on move swap file to 2nd partition and reboot, helps with file fragmentation on OS partition.

Install games on second partition, especially IL2.

There are methods to move my documents to another drive too, but you have the space to not worry about that.

Install office and other productivity applications on C: drive.

Re 352 vs AAA.

You can do either:

Restore your 352nd Modded IL2 game and convert it to AAA or..

Install clean IL2 and download the 9 AAA downloads (8 files = initial install 1 file = update).

thanks...I went with a partion split of 120/380

I just hope I did it the right way around...when it asked me the size of the new partition (min 8 megs) I told it 380,000MB...so I hope that becomes the 2nd partition and not the first......

I like this idea:

Install clean IL2 and download the 9 AAA downloads (8 files = initial install 1 file = update).

just as long as it allows me to play with the dogs and go online with HL too.....I play UKded2 alot and it uses 4.08m (skies of valor uses 4.08modded i think...can the AAA be used there or would I need to incorporate the 352nd as well....doh)

I know BG uses 4.09modded for co-ops...can AAA users join that as well?

Triple A means you get 4.08 clean, 4.09 clean, 4.08 modded no 6DOF, 408 modded 6DOF, 4.09 modded no 6DOF, 409 modded 6DOF.

So you will be able to fly wherever you choose :)

The Dogz Switcher can be downloaded from:

http://www.dangerdogz.com/switcher (use Internet Explorer) and it will work with AAA

Leave creating partition #2 until after the OS is installed.

It will format faster, you can install stuff on the C: drive whilst it formats and you preclude the possibility of Windows putting the boot files on the D: drive (as it is often wont to do).

The 8Mb leftover is normal, this is where the partitioning scheme/config is stored.

ok...creating the 115 c: partition now......

When its done and the OS is up and running do I create the D: partition within windows on the control panel/administrative tools/computer management/storage/disk management pages or do I do it somewhere else?

Yes that is one method, an alternate (same destination just less clicks) is to right click 'My Computer' and select 'Manage', then you will see Disk Management..

with regards to this.........

is it better to set it to "system managed size" or set a size myself.

System managed is OK, if you want to go manual then the rule of thumb is 1.5 times the RAM you have.

You may get a warning about crash dumps when you move it, ignore it unless you are into debugging the Windows Kernel big time ;)
