BBloke
A Komatsu D375A-2 pulled an abandoned tank from its archival tomb under the bottom of a lake near Johvi, Estonia. The Soviet-built T34/76A tank had been resting at the bottom of the lake for 56 years. According to its specifications, it's a 27-tonne machine with a top speed of 53km/hr. From February to September 1944, heavy battles were fought in the narrow, 50 km-wide, Narva front in the north-eastern part of Estonia. Over 100,000 men were killed and 300,000 men were wounded there. D uring battles in the summer of 1944,the tank was captured from the Soviet army and used by the German army. (This is the reason that there are German markings painted on the tank's exterior.)

BadAim
That's way cool. I'm amazed at the condition. That looks to me like a late production 76mm vehicle, probably from the end of 1943, and a rare find indeed.
Enforcer57
If I could see the pix, I think that is an early model version with an overhang on the turret. Of course, I cant see those things in that form for some reason....dunno why. Amazing that its in such good shape. Most surviving T-34s are the later -85 model wiht an 85mm. I cant bloody remember....but if i could just see it........
Rattler
I'd have to agree with BA. Long(er) barrel 76mm gun - definitely not a 34-76a version....
Rattler
This is what some of my mates worked on in the last 5-8 years or so... [attachthumb=1] The guy on the right is a good friend - got a bit messed up 2 years ago in Afghanistan (serious PTSD), and the one in the middle is my brother's Bison Amb. driver presently - can drive anything with wheels or tracks. BadAim
That half track is a beauty, if the T-34 gets half as much love it will do just fine. I will pray for your friend, PTSD does as much damage as bullets, if not more.
