  1. 6.3GB? Lordy, that'll take me weeks.

i can send u a DVD by mail when i get it if u wish m8.

I was about to suggest the same thing, but Gec beat me to it!

Don't worry mate, we're all here to spread the UP3 love :laughing7:

  2. The camera man and producer of the clip makes a lot of the official airshow DVD's and after it went ballistic on YouTube he decided to include it as an 'easter egg' bonus on one of the official releases.

I'll try and dig it out to see what it's on...

  3. Trouble is, unfortunately it's not actually twilight tear. And apparently never was. A case of mistaken identity it seems, and a large legal dispute ensued. Part of the reason why a. tfc sold it and b. it's been repainted differently after resto.

Shame I know, but we must now embrace 'fragile'!

  4. Another +1 here for the MSFFB2!

I've had mine for about 7 years now (bought second hand) after going through a myriad of lesser sticks IMO.

Haven't tried any of the top range CH yet, but like most of the other guys here, I love my FFB.

The only problems i've been getting of late is connection problems at computer startup, causing the stick to violently thrash around resulting it having to be unplugged and plugged back in again (strange).

Other than that, it's superb. I'm actually going to be looking for another as a backup.

  5. For those of you who didn't see the Horsemen when they appeared at Duxford Flying Legends a couple of years ago, you might want to check out this beautifully filmed and presented movie.

The Horsemen will be returning to DX again this year, this time bringing a couple of their own P-51's:

    February & Fragile But Agile

Trivia: Fragile but Agile is the former Duxford resident 'Twilight Tear'.

  6. This is fantastic!

    Quoted from the description:

"Unlike other places where speed may dominate pilot discussions, up here it’s all about how slow you can go. It’s directly related to how quickly you can get off the ground and how little room you need to land.

It’s called, "STOL" or “short take-off and landing” and here in Alaska it is synonymous with flying.

This weekend pilots from throughout Alaska and across North America will converge on the coastal town of Valdez for the annual Fly-In & Air Show. The big event is Saturday’s STOL competition.

A typical pilot in a small single-engine airplane might use 1,000 or 1,500 feet to land on a paved runway, bush pilots often need just a few hundred feet. Sometimes less, because most of the time bush pilots aren’t landing on a runway or anything resembling one.

At the STOL competition in Valdez, takeoffs and landings are measured in tens of feet. Pilots pull up to a line and try to get off the ground with as little ground roll as possible. They also try to touch down as soon as they pass a line on the ground in the shortest possible distance.

The massive 35-inch tires are inflated to less than 3 psi to absorb the impact of landing on rocks and other debris. They also give the wing a high angle of attack to aid in decreasing the takeoff and landing distances. The engine has been stroked out an additional 15 cubic inches (375 total) and puts out around 210 horsepower. To help balance the heavier engine, the composite propeller weighs just 14 pounds. The result is helicopter-like performance.

“It’s just full power with the brakes locked and you get the tail up,” you just rotate immediately as you release the brakes and it just lifts off the ground."

  7. What a beautiful restoration, seen here at it's debut airshow in NZ recently.

I believe it is to be shipped to it's new home in the USandA soon.

Being a bit of a warbird buff, by my recollection that makes three airworthy early model P-40's.

Another P-40C is with Paul Allen's FHC at Paine Field and here in good old blighty we are lucky to have a P-40B at Duxford with TFC. Hopefully we'll get to see this one at Flying Legends this year!

  8. Oh there's no doubting his weapons handling and knowledge, but apparently he is not Dimitri the professional Russian but in fact a well known American commentator for call of duty by the name of FpsKyle who also happens to be a weapons expert of sorts. He's from Georgia I believe.

Still a lot of fun to watch though! Glad you enjoyed :)

  9. Tools i've used in the past mate:

    - Hijackthis (purely to identify and delete nasty registry entries etc)

If you have any queries, send me your hijackthis logfile and I should be able to decifer what is good and what is bad because this tool can cripple your system if used incorrectly!

    - Spybot Search & Destroy

    - Adaware

These all apply well to XP, but I confess since running Win7, I'm pretty happy with MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials). It's relatively lightweight, simple to use and regularly updated.
