  1. As a DX insider Bongo, what have you heard? Is it a disagreement with IWM?

    Where will it go?

    My guesses:

    Sywell or Headcorn.

I think Sywell is a good shout from what I've seen of the place online; decent facilities for the public i'm told, with Grace's hangars for visiting aircraft and inevitable tech gremlins .
Although having never actually been I've no idea how well the infrastructure and surrounding area would cope with the numbers?

And as much as I'd love Legends to be on my doorstep, I can't see how Headcorn could handle said numbers of people or indeed aircraft. Just think how long that flight line stretches out...
The relatively small Aero Legends BofB show can cause havoc around the tight country roads as it is. Unless they significantly scaled down the scope? No heavies etc?

I don't think they'll find a venue to match DX, certainly not in this country. Also, it's become such a large commercial venture under the helm of Grey Jr. it surely has to come close to DX in size to be viable?

So maybe that's the point. We could see Legends move to the US or elsewhere in Europe?

  2. This makes me tremendously sad. 😢

I hope the team can find a suitable venue, preferably somewhere with an historic connection.

Regardless, it'll never be the same again.

    Here's to the memories!

    A message from Nick Grey

    Dear Friends of Flying Legends,

I look at this and the years gone by with immense gratitude for all the wonderful moments we have lived with you our faithful and fanatical community. It is with a heavy heart that we confirm 2019 was the final Flying Legends with our friends at IWM Duxford. We truly hope that our team will find an alternative location to welcome this iconic event and that we will have the privilege of seeing you all again. Thank you for your support and kindness.

    Yours sincerely Nick

2nd Lt. Casey Baker miraculously survived a head on collision with a Fw 190A-8. Knocked completely unconscious and trapped in the falling wreckage Baker had a million-to-one shot when remains of his aircraft hit the steep slope of a tall river bank and slid into a muddy, silty bog at the bottom. He was rescued by friendly ground troops and taken to a nearby aid station. Apart from a light concussion he suffered no further injury! Some one get that guy a lottery ticket!

I will never miss another Sunday Mass; It's a Miracle!

Well done chaps, glad you made a success of it whilst I sipped on muddy bog juice.

  4. Whilst I was hoping that my collisions only occurred in the dream world, I am of course pleased that we may have ironed out the combat report gremlins and glad to see it all went through.

Well done 402nd for hitting some key targets and keeping things together on what was a fun and hair-raising little post-drop fur ball.

Chris Blooblair sends his apologies to Jasper Jacobsen for the un-sighted bell flop in the face, typically when the 'threats' had been dealt with. At least we survived, that's something!

2nd Lt Casey Baker reporting for duty Sir!

  5. Aha, so my initial recollection was mostly correct.

I would conclude then that on my part, a combination of target fixation and you being almost certainly obscured by my canopy frame for the majority of the collision course.
And judging by that last footage, I was certainly hidden under your nose so we were both blissfully unaware of our impending 'amalgamation'.  🥴

Fascinating stuff really! You can only imagine just how difficult it was to achieve accurate combat reporting at the time.

    S~ Sir!

  6. Spectacular! Thanks Arthur and Jabo.

It's all a little hazy, but If I recall, I was climbing up onto a bandit travelling in the opposite direction to this one with a single '38 long to it's six not in firing range. You can tell by my behaviour I am blissfully unaware of you Arthur!

I didn't even see you until the very split second before we collided. Looking at the angles, I suspect you were obscured by the canopy framing for most of the collision course and I was fixated on my target.

Having said that, perhaps I misjudged the angles and what I was actually pursuing was your 190 and all I could see was Jabo's '38 as you were obscured?

Any chance we could see it from my perspective? I'd be interested to see how it differs from my recollection!

  7. The older I get, the more of a pacifist I am becoming, so this does indeed interest me. To be honest, flying has always come first for me, the combat is secondary.
Realistically, I'm not sure I will achieve my goal of a PPL any time soon; certainly not in the next decade and then who knows what the general aviation industry will look like then?

So MSFS + VR sure does look like a desirable way of getting part way to fulfilling the yearning and flying around some jaw dropping scenery with a bunch of mates off the interwebs sounds cool yeah?

Oh no, my reputation is ruined, and I haven't even started 😢

Fear not. It's an endorsement old bean, a rite of passage.

Just wait until he asks you to hold his hand, whilst chest deep in the English channel so he can remove his under-crackers in order to wave them like a flag at the French.

  9. Welcome Reggie, by the sounds of it you'll fit in just fine around here. I see most of the warnings about certain members have already been mentioned.

We don't do parade drill, ranks, saluting and all that jazz here, it gets in the way of the fun. We do however take things seriously when required for the benefit of immersion; Fen's P-38 campaign for example.
