  1. :(

Are you using the "Soundblaster" instead of the onboard sound?

If you are, has the onboard sound been disabled in the BIOS? It may be worth checking this just in case whatever sent your sound haywire also switched the onboard back on. If this happened, the "Soundblaster" driver won't install properly and comes up with an error during startup.

  2. Hopefully all is not lost.... :-\

Try this, I have had Creative "Soundblaster" issues in the past. Download the drivers ONLY for your soundcard from the manufacturers site and save them somewhere easy to get at. Uninstal all the Creative sound drivers and associated Creative software through "Add/remove programs" and clean the registry with something if possible. Reboot and go for a fresh install of the drivers only. The other Creative stuff is ok but isn't always necessary and can always be added on later.

    Here's hoping....

  3. Not wishing to hijack BGs opportunity to reply, but it was a blast. I got on about 9.00pm and stayed for a few hours!! There were about 15 flying and most were on TS. Dogz didn't crowd it - there were 3 or 4 of us.

Names from the Zoo I recognise and can remember (apologies to those I don't):

    MBAvro

    SeafireIV

    BeWolf

    arthursmedley

    FoolTrottel

    jediteo

    99thM........?

hopefully someone else can add to the list.

BG supplied a steady variation of maps and very fair planesets whilst Quazis TS worked like a charm - thanks gents. From my point of view gameplay was smooth and I don't recall any lagging or issues.

The chat was excellent, everyone stuck to the agreed rules and folks were introduced to the "20 second rule" - went down very well!

Skills were balanced Red and Blue naturally which meant that generally no-one dominated and most pilots were getting a score at the end. One map in particular was interesting (Russian/German planeset) in that no-one scored any points but no-one survived lol

  4. ...of stalwart service my (now un-)trusty Saitek X45 has gone skewhiffy. It's last effort was to provide me with a fine evening's entertainment on UKDed2 on Tuesday - you'd all buggered off when I came back from the "shout" so I had to entertain myself somehow.

I've tried all sorts to get it back but it just won't have it - driver/software reinstalls, changing the USB port. So, I've taken the plunge and ordered an X52Pro that will hopefully arrive Tuesday. Next few days I'll be borrowing

  5. Now...I installed sp3 via Windows manual update 2 days ago smoothly with no hitches and have noticed the following:

I have an icon for an 'A' floppy drive now - didn't have one before

I don't get the date displayed now when I cover the time in the taskbar with the pointer 'arrow'

Some DVDs now stutter - may try an Nvidia driver reinstall

Using FRAPS, vsync off and the Black Death, sp2 was Min 21, Max 103, Avg 58. sp3 is Min 22, Max 171, Avg 69. I haven't altered anything else.

Mixed feelings with this, but generally fine.

  6. Not liking a swivel chair whilst flying and not wanting to buy a new one, I was looking for a way to sit comfortably and use the pedals securely ie stop them moving about on the carpet. I tried sticking things to the pedals' base using double-sided sticky tape (I watched Blue Peter) and it worked, but it started to get messy and the non-slip stuff went into small rolls and became uneven.

So, having already adopted a dining room chair with parachute/cushion I looked for a way to attach the pedals to the chair. After a bit of measuring and buying some offcuts from B&Q for £1, I came up with this....

After using it for a couple of weeks it was time for some refinement

    And in place

Nice and secure, no movement whatsoever
