    Help My Soldier!

Hi Rico, Probably the easiest way to get Broadband is via a mobile internet contract with one of the mobile phone providers ("3", "Vodafone" and "T-Mobile" being just 3 that there are available here) PAYG types are also available, but are generally extortionate. Your oppo might have problems getting one of these as she's not a UK resident (3 years is usually the minimum required). Which will leave her with 2 options - DSL via one of the landline providers (BT, TalkTalk, Sky etc) or cable (Virgin is, AFAIK the only national one, but coverage is patchy). I use BT and have been very happy (mostly) with their service - not the cheapest, but reliable (when I'm not screwing around with the settings
  6. ~S~ Beebop, nice work m8 Happy Christmas to all the HH chaps. ~S~ Jabo
  7. The noise of those Merlins and Griffons is pretty good isn't it
  8. Wotcha, found this http://www.vimeo.com/1405515 while hunting through the Fighter Collection's website. A 3 minute clip from the opening Spitfire tail-chase @ this year's Legends. It really doesn't get much better than this IMO. You might want to turn up the volume for this one. ~S~ Jabo
  9. ~S~ Colin, here's to 2009! ~S~ Jabo
  10. Don't know, but glad I wasn't underneath it. Nice find GK. LOL! ~S~ Jabo
  11. Current favorites Pook are; "First Light" - Geoffrey Wellum (ISBN 978-0-14-100814-1) The autobiography of Geoffrey 'Boy' Wellum (Fighter pilot during BoB and then on to the defence of Malta) "Fighter Boys - Saving Britain 1940" - Patrick Bishop (ISBN 0-00-653204-7) The story of BoB through the eyes of the pilots involved. "Bomber Crew - Taking on the Reich" - John Sweetman (ISBN 0-349-11796-9) "Dambusters - An Oral History" - Max Arthur (ISBN 978-1-905264-33-9) An old subject but a new viewpoint as the story is told by the members of 617 Squadron who took part in the raid, plus assorted commanders etc. Eve Gibson turns up in there as well. "Tail-End Charlies - The Last Battles of the Bomber War 1944-45" - John Nichol & Tony Rennell (ISBN 0-670-91456-
  12. old chap, have a good one. ~S~ Jabo
  13. Looks good to me m8 - not sure about the case, but it's only for keepng the bits in after all - spec's good, and you've got room to grow (SLI for SOW for example) ~S~ Jabo
  14. I'm running a 128Mb AGP card in 'Perfect' mode Dep and getting good frame rates - It's more dependant on the speed of the card and the way it's set up than the memory - This is quite an old game now, but was originally written to run on low-spec machines, so once you get to a certain spec, everything else is frame rate increases - Do you need the game to run at 200fps (I can hear the baying from here!)? Consider your screen refresh rate - 70Hz? - maximum of 70 fps - everything else is just noise. Agree about the memory though, 2Gb makes quite a difference. Just my 2 cents ~S~ Jabo
  15. I'm an AMD kid really Dep - Not looking to move to Intel unless they pull off a major coup. I think the AMD chips are a little cheaper clock for clock, and I've had no reliability probs with them in the past. No, I'm going to sling the lot and start again (keeping the opticals, HDDs and FDD though - and the PSU - Spent a lot of money on that and it's ridiculously over-spec.) ~S~ Jabo
  16. Ditto, I was fortunate enough recently to be given a new gfx card and it's improved the game experience considerably without sacrificing fps, but it's still AGP, and although there is still some scope for upgrades, I think I'm better off not spending too much more on it, it's not as if it'll be worth anything. Oh, one thing to bear in mind, although I'm sure you know this already. Even if you're switching to Vista (urgh) the 64-bit versions are the only ones which would be able to use 4Gb, I think the 32-bit versions can't use more than 3 - 3.5Gb? ~S~ Jabo
  17. No dispute there m8, I was just generally agreeing with you. I have a similar problem with my rig as it's a generation (possibly two) out of date - DDR RAM and an AGP gfx slot. Next upgrade will have to be a biggie - mainboard, processor, memory and gfx card(s) ~S~ Jabo
  18. $200! Holy cow Dep...I see what you mean though, with the general shift on new machines to DDR2, it's getting progressively more difficult to find the older formats (I've had a proper struggle recently to get hold of 2Gb PC3200 at a reasonable price) ~S~ Jabo
  19. LOL Interesting that something as small (in relative terms) as a 10 tonne rock would reach ground level. I tend to think of meteors as being bigger than that. Been watching too many films I guess.
  20. ~S~ Asas, mine does the same thing, I have a feeling it's something to do with the mod pack - I'm pretty sure it didn't happen before. I think there's a patch to put it right, but I'm afraid I don't have it (usually forget to read the brief in any case
