  1. Well, today i had a massive scare.

I'd been moving some stuff around on my desk, including my monitor, which is a 15 month old 24 inch samsung monitor which i love, and turned my computer on, and nothing. the monitor refused to power up, and the led wasn't even on. Now after expelling several expletives, after checking all the cables, even checking the fuse, using a different cable, different socket, and nothing, i was pretty pissed. I remembered gettting a letter from DABS, the company i'd bought it off sending me a letter in jan saying would i like to extend the warrenty, as 12 months was up, which i'd never got around to doing, so thought i was buggered.

Anyway, i phoned up samsung just to see really, and spoke to a really helpfull bloke, who told me that i actually had 24 months on this product anyway (fuckin cheaky dabs, trying to sell me something i didn't need), and that they would organise a replacement within 2 days, and swap at my door, which is top notch in my opinion :thumbsu:

Anyways, to my dilema, About 5 hours later, after i'd moved everything around, and reconnected to my 17inc CRT, i just tried the 24inch again on a whim, and low and behold, it powered up again, and im using it right now to type this on.

Should i tell Samsung, or just replace it?

Either way, i don't want to have a monitor that refuses to power up from time to time, but i don't want them to turn around and say that i have to keep it now,

    any advice appreciated,

  2. to add to what the others have said, i'm running a 24inch widescreen with my old 17inch CRT. It was a simple case of plugging it in to the gfx card, and then going to nvidia control panel to manipulate, res etc...

Warning. It is very easy to get use to your new monitor screen real estate!!! "4inch doesn't seem that big anymore, lol.

Interstingly, suffer no loss of fps either, running a gtx280.

  3. For a small project I'm in need of all the 'Default' in game skins, in the usual 1024x1024 bitmap format.

Does anybody know where to find them?

Or how to successfully extract them?

(I can open up and extract files from fd_3do20.SFS, but this results (per plane type) into some 1Mb large .tga type files, and one 4Mb .tgb file, with which I cannot do anything..... can't open them, they are not being recognized as valid image files... Using PaintshopPro 7, IrFanView, etc.)

    you need to use this,

    http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,1110.0.html

to open the tgb file, which is the one you want, just rename tga, then open in the utility, and save as tga from within the utility. you can then open this new tga with normal stuff, i use gimp.

the large tgb files have the alpha channel saved with them, you will get rid of it when you can save it into bmp. You can also save the alpha channel seperatly if you so wanted, or though highly unlikely, again just rename the file .tga.

once you open the new tga file, with say gimp, you can save it as a bmp and it gets rid of the alpha channel, then i use infraview to reduce colurs to a 256 colour .bmp, and hey presto, you have the skin:)

    hope this helps,

  4. They will return from their mission in 6 months.

And when they return it will be as if nothing happened............ :-\

its classified, you'll find out in a hundred years, sitting in your $1,000,000 cybotic body, with your brain in a jar, hardwired to a titanium chasis, that they've been saving the world. evey year.

  5. Yeah, i'm in for that. I'll phone up tomorrow.

Got my own tent, spent 10 weeks in it straight once in aus, so its a familiar friend, no worries there, lol!

Like the sound of always a box of beers, we're doing to get on famously, :laughing7:

its close enough that we can go back to the red lion and have some beers for the boys in the evening before retiring, so sounds like a plan :happy6:

  6. it was good, but i was expecting something a bit more at the end, don't know what, but not a curtain with the credits, lol.

is it a sign that i'm getting older, that as it was playing, i was thinking, glad i don't have to tidy that lot up...

  7. i'm in the process of making a co-op based around BoB, on the early channel stage in july at the moment, based on the events of the 25 july, basically a large convoy was travelling down the channel between dover and folkestone, and was attacked by ju87's escorted by 109's, with some 110's low level attacking dover harbour itself, with various spit and hurris squadrons sent to intercept. I've changed some of the airfields to make it a bit more co-op friendly but tried to stay as historical as i can including correct squadrons.

disclaimer, this is the first co-op i've made, although i'm no stranger to the fmb, will release for testing and tweaking soon, if all goes well, will make some more, have some good references and ideas for some early ruburbs and cicuses as well.
