  1. ha, i'm all for making it simpler, should of thought of that myself really nice work mayhem.
  2. yeah, pooka's right, it works threefold, one mod reduces the size of some of the texture size, one disables mipmaps, and one disables ssao. glad you got it working BG. arthur, are you still on win xp, or 7 now? shouldn't make a diff where the files go in the actual folder, but since its the same name should auto go in the same place.....
  3. what do you get over land. if it hasn't increased then something is most likely not correct.
  4. done, http://dangerdogz.com/forums/topic/8376-how-to-install-clod-mods/
  5. and thats the crux, it needs to be on a direct x 10 OS.
  6. Hi guys, here is a little walk through, of how to install the mods for clod, which give a significant improvement in fps, and in smoothness. It really makes a big difference on my system, and across the board from all who try from reading the various forums. its a little bit complicated, but i shall try to make it as easy as poss with a step by step guide with pics and everything! first you need to download these 5 things, http://dangerdogz.com/forums/files/file/490-il2cod-sfsmod11zip/ http://dangerdogz.com/forums/files/file/489-launcherexeconfig/ http://dangerdogz.com/forums/files/file/491-lowtex7z/ http://dangerdogz.com/forums/files/file/492-nomipmaps-modzip/ http://dangerdogz.com/forums/files/file/493-nossao-modzip/ (thanks rog for uploading to the vault ) Step 1. first extract the il2cod-sfsmod11.zip to desktop. inside will be a 'kegetys.dll' file. this need s to be copied into here, C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover as shown below, keep this window open. Step 2 extract the launcher.exe config that you downloaded. in the above screenshot, you will see there is already one there, cut that one out, and place somewhere safe, and replace with the one you downloaded, as this has the entries needed already done for you. (thanks to Jedi ) Step 3 extract the 3 mod folders that you downloaded, 'lowtex', 'nossao' and 'nomipmaps' copy these into the same place, you can see them in the above screenshot. Step 4 open steam, click on library, right click on 'il2 sturmovk cliffs of dover' and click properties, click 'set launch options', and add this text as shown, -mod=nossao -mod=nomipmap -mod=lowtex and thats it, start game Some other tips that improve performance, 1) disable windows aero (you can do this by adding the text -disablecomposition in the launch options as shown below, will turn it off when you start the game, and back on when you exit.) full text to insert will be, -disablecomposition -mod=nossao -mod=nomipmap -mod=lowtex 2) disable trees and turn down buildings to low 3) and although this looks pretty, turn off shadows, its a big fps hit. I can now fly at a much higher res, with better fps and it running much smoother. Its still nowhere near perfect, but its a massive step forward, hope this helps, FB.
  7. how much free hard drive space do you have, if its plenty, then you can just create another partition and install win7 on that and duel boot, that way you won't loose any of the stuff you already have. if you don't have enough room suggest getting another hard drive, and duel booting of that. oh, def get 64bit.
  8. in honesty, win XP is a dead duck now anyway, no point having it.
  9. Hi guys, i stumbled across this thread over at simhq, http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/3265101/Performance_improvement_mod_s_.html#Post3265101 and it really makes a huge difference on my system, it makes it actually playable, so much smoother and higher frames to boot. both myself and jedi have used it, and it really does work. its a little bit tricky , but tomorrow i'll write a 'how to do'.
  10. haha, my fav from over at 1c, lol,
  11. both, multisampling, supersampling, gamma correction etc.... you name it. iv'e left it on override in the vain hope that after a patch somewhere down the line we will actually be able to tune from the nvidia control panel
  12. thats how i have mine set, but heres no way its running at 16xQ on my machine. 1c forums are full of people saying that aa isn't working properly. It is working to a degree, but not fully for some reason.
  13. C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover\ launcher.exe
  14. to a degree, it isn't 8x thats for sure, more like 2 or 4 max. Running AA through the nvidia control panel is working well for me. I've set it to off in game and have set it at 'SLI x 8' in the nvidia panel. It has reduced the jaggies better than the game AA does but hasn't got rid of them. Doing more testing. been running it through that it all combos already. before i ran it through nvidia control panel, it didn't stick at all. short story, aa is broken in clod at the moment.
  15. to a degree, it isn't 8x thats for sure, more like 2 or 4 max.
  16. 'Don't buy it if you have win XP', as it needs direct x10, would be pretty fair. Also unless you have a 4 series nvidia card or above accept it isn't go to play well at all...
  17. it all depends on your gfx card, anything less than a 4 series nvidia or ati equivalent, its just not worth it and performs horribly. Also, if your on winXP forget it, needs DirectX10. I've tried the new patch on my system, i7-940 quad@3.5Ghz, 6 gig DDR3@1333 and a GTX280, and the gfx card just isn't good enough for the currant (and probably for ever) optimisation. i have to fly at these settings to get decent fps over land, even then, although the fps is saying 50, i still see texture crawl down low, which ruins any illusion of speed for me. and to be quite honest, at those settings, my il2 modded looks miles better.
  18. game runs shit on windows xp unfortunately, no matter what hardware you throw at it, it doesn't like direct x9, needs to be on direct x10 which means vista or win7. course, it would be more accurate to say it runs less shit on vista64/win7.
  19. somebody said over at 1C, "i wanted to be transported back to the 1940's, instead i ended up back in the 90's with my first pc." my take. One would have to be blind not to see the amazing potential that the game has to offer in the future. Complex engine management is superb, as are the damage models. One would also have to be blind not to see at the moment, that its only potential, and the game is no where near ready as a 'game' yet imo, and no amount of eye candy ohhhh ahhh cockpit shadows is going to change that. if you want to simulate the BoB at the moment, get UP3.0 in a few days, planes run on the correct boost, right variants of said planes, map that doesn't look like its from the simpsons, can have large formations, all with nice aa and at high res, and most importantly, smooth playability. I'm pretty sure down the line, it will be the finest WWII sim out there, and far surpass il2, but it isn't there yet. give it a year or 2.
