  1. No no, I wasn't picking you up on anything. A bad un's a bad un whatever he looks like. You're just guilty of gross stereotyping. Blame the media.

    Whiskey

Apparently this was said, not by Armon M. Sweat but by Noah "Soggy" Sweat , a US judge. Strange as the mis-attribution may be, it's not nearly as confusing as the fact that he probably wasn't even extolling the virtues of real whisky - but that strange brew which Americans call Bourbon.
  3. Brave indeed, boss! Last time I did a deal in a public place I received a cardboard box with a house-brick in it while the (white) guy grabbed the money and scarpered. I thought the brick was the final irony and so would he if I'd ever caught him! I'm glad it worked out well for you. Ross
  4. I'd be there if my stick and bits weren't in about a hundred pieces all over my desk. regards to all B Deep into "One-handed screwing for Beginners". The wife is looking anxious.

These beautiful sunlight-yellow babes just appeared out of the ground. We never put them there, they just arrived. Left is bamboo against a background of hazel.

  10. On the same depressing note, one of my old customers is bringing in his computer for "a service" this week \ I know how it'll be, wading up to my knees in malware trying to coax a few more virtual miles out of some bits that should've been trashed the last time I looked at it three blooming years ago. Oh bugger, the price of friendship!
  11. Try changing from Pan View to Snap View. I don't recall the keyboard shortcut - checkout Controls in the Game menu
  12. I'm feeling miffed because all the components for my new pit have arrived EXCEPT the flippin' buttons! And they were the first things I ordered - grrrr!

  13. Ah, good, I'm glad to hear it got there safely. If you have already got an Ati card then install is minimal under Win 7. I do suggest Driver Cleaner or equivalent if you had a green one - but hey? What am I telling you for? You need a single 6-pin PCiE plug iirc. Have fun!
  14. see your PM for address
  15. So far I have only encountered one issue that is giving me grief, but it's so obscure that it shouldn't prevent anyone from grabbing what is surely the best job Windows have done for a while. I'm looking to revive a CH Force (feedback) stick by using the X+Y axis from a Logitech Force with the motors from the CH. It's a known hack which several folk have done - but I'm struggling to get the Logi software running in 64bit Windows But it's more Logitech's bloody-mindedness than the OS. They won't write drivers for an older stick because they want to sell G940s. Other than that I'm finding the ability to use more RAM very important and learning to work with and around the UAC. The tip about running games from another location than Program Files is worth noting with regard to editing those mission files. It can be done by switching off UAC, then editing and then switching UAC back on - but that's a pain and requires reboots at either end of the Off...........On process. I'm glad I sidestepped Vista, but I wouldn't want to return to XP. cheers, B
  16. I'll take a fiver plus postage, if that suits? Works for me m8, let me know the full amount. You want paying by paypal? Jabo Just PM me with your snailmail and then I'll know how much the postage is. Will post Tuesday, we'll do dosh when it gets there.
  17. Probably not as mine is 1333MHz (as opposed to your 1600MHz) and it would be necessary to adjust both Clock speed and timings to match. I don't think they're close enough

  19. Very sensible too, Rog I just emailed you
  20. I've been sorting through the post-upgrade box and I have a few items that I'd like to clear out. Best first: An ATI HD4890 with 1GB DDR5. This is the Peak model (PCiE), made specially for OCUK, and sports an Accelero TwinTurbo cooler. It has DVI, VGA and HDMI connectors and runs DX 10.1. This one has very few 'miles on the clock' and is in PWO. SOLD An OCZ XTC RAM cooler (version 2). Basically two fans in a black casing which clips over the DIMM-slot clips, thereby holding the RAM in place (useful) and blowing cool air over it (useful for running RAM @ full chat. Uses power from any mobo header, has two speeds and blue LEDs, very sexy. SOLD 4GB (2x2) OCZ Reaper PC3-10666 DDR3 RAM. A matched pair with a rating of 6-6-6 @ 1.75v. Good, fast gaming RAM. Any reasonable offers accepted. All sold out
  21. Ooh, a package! The postman has just delivered my Leo Bodnar circuit board and assorted high-quality switchgear and the Tripehound Mk.II comes a little bit closer.

The excitingest bit is the P260P potentiometer, it's small and very well made, and it's going to replace the piss-poor solution I had previously

  22. Sheep: Are you sure this is position number 127? Painless: Just let me get the mint sauce applied, Flossie.
  23. Nothing to do with a Vindaloo curry and the morning after then?
  24. Well, so far things are looking good. I've finished decorating my study and my wife has promised to stop describing it as "the swamp" to anyone who comes around. I've re-sited my 'office' in a salubrious corner and finally mounted my reproduction White Star Line oil-lamp on the wall - it's only taken me 20 years to use it since I bought it! Now I only have to build my new joystick and control panel, and sort myself out with a decent seat, and I'll be ready to pester you with questions on setting up the game! Anybody got a set of elves? They need to be able to solder, bend metal and read electrical symbols - I don't need the boot-maker types, I need 21st century elves.
  25. I recall a pint of Tetley's, or Timothy Taylors, (or any of the dozen or so beautiful draught beers available in West Yorkshire at the time) hitting the 40 pence mark some while ago But wages at the little iron foundry were £42.00 a week after tax, so a bit of careful budgeting meant I could spend half on beer and the rest on food, petrol and rent, with enough left over for 10 tabs a day, usually Woodbines. Saturdays a bunch of us would ride our bikes out, usually taking the Pennine route over to Buxton, in the next county, and grab a pub lunch and a couple of beers before heading back in the afternoon. I lived with my girlfriend in the last village up the Holme valley but Saturday night meant heading a few miles down the road to Holmfirth, to the Rose and Crown. Hidden off the main street, it was known to one and all as 'the Nook'. The courtyard out front would be full of British motorcycles that are nowadays only seen at vintage rallies, while inside the owners would be putting away something like 3 or 4 quarts of ale apiece. There was an unofficial rule in place concerning the journey home. Travel on the main valley road was asking for trouble. The police would be patrolling armed with breathalysers, and over the limit meant a fine, an endorsement and the night in a cell. There was another road however, leading to the same destination, located a hundred feet further up the side of the valley. The police never used it and we all wobbled away home on the 'top road'. People used to fall off regularly, usually through 'running out of road', but the others would stop and haul them upright with much jollity to proceed on the way. I don't recall any serious injuries during the three years I was there even though the helmet law still hadn't been introduced. So now I hear people talking £3 or £4 a pint, and tabs at around £7 for 20! And yet my pension only gives me about the same amount of beer money as I had way back then. To be honest, I'd rather die than pay those kind of prices for the sort of beer they sell around here. B
