    Hi Tonar, I've recently gone through this exercise - it only took about 12 months! Anyway, I ended up with: Antec 900 case Foxconn X38a Mobo E8400 Cpu 2Gb 1066Ghz DDR2 Ram Corsair 750W PSU ATI 4850 Video card Windows XP Pro and various bits from my old machine. Spec was assembled with help from BG, Quazi, Klinger and BBloke.

    Hi BA, I'm impressed so far, although that's not surprising when you consider the specs of my old rig. Still playing with the settings, but IQ is excellent on perfect with water=2 (ATI doesn't go any higher it seems) 4 x AA and 8 x AF.

    Hi C_G, (Note to self - read post CAREFULLY before replying....) I've just re-checked CCC and yes - my settings revert to default as well when there is no gpu activity. Thanks for the info on temps.

    Hi Pooka, I was running IL2 on: Epox 8HMM1-A Mobo Sempron 3000 754 pin cpu Nvidia Geforce 6800 Ultra 256Mb AGP Audigy 2 sound card 1Gb DDR 400 ram. With a bit (well, a lot actually) of tweaking and no goodies - Water=0, no AA, no AF etc. I managed to get about 32fps average with the BD track.

    Good stuff C_G! I've got my rig running as well, but am suffering from micro-stutters at the moment and I want to get these sorted before going online. Can we compare setups please?

    The new build is pretty much finished, and without any major trauma! I used the ATI auto tune to overclock the 4850 from 500 to 690 (GPU) and 750 to 1153 (Mem) and have been playing around with in-game settings. The old rig - Sempron 3000, 1Gb DDR 400, 6800 Ultra gave 48 max, 32 av 0 min on the BD track with 1024x768 res, water 0 and no AA or AF. So far the new one with same res, water 1, effects 2, 4xAA a 8AF gives 70 av 185 max 17 min. All I have to do now is find some time to fly.

    New build update.... Well, all seems to be going very well so far.

    I have the feeling that I will be haunting this particular board for some time, annoying all and sundry with daft questions..... So, I installed an Audigy 2 sound card in the current heap of junk to increase fps to playable levels.

    Steady on there C_G! Building the thing will be a major step into the wild unknown - overclocking is a bit down the line yet. I am hoping that the performance difference over a 1.8Gz Sempron, 1Gb RAM (400Mhz?) and an AGP 6800 ultra will be so vast that overclocking won't be necessary yet.
