    You, XP and SP3

That's a much better idea. Up here for thinking, down there for...yeah, anyway, here's a link to the full SP3 ISO image Jabo Incidentally, it's probably best to grab this (if you want it) sooner rather than later - ISTR M$ removing the full SP2 a month or so after release - you could only then get it via Auto Update (urgh)
  2. That's how I understand it - Hamilhoff, myself and the WAG (my wife and his gf before anybody decides to deliberately misunderstand me - they're two different people as well ) will be there on the Friday - I think Crash is coming down then as well. I was kind of semi-planning a post show get together at the Red Lion on Saturday night assuming we've not all had enough of each other by then... Jabo

    You, XP and SP3

I did the same - complete trash and rebuild (from ghost image with SP2). Everything seems OK - except the fact that I obviously can't be trusted to reinstall the key mappings on IL2 before I go flying with you chaps.
  4. Hi JP, it's probably worth checking that your USB ports have the 2.0 driver installed - I get some veeery strange things happening with my PC if I do a remaster and forget to update the USB driver. I assume you've 'upgraded' (microsoft's words not mine) to SP2 in which case you should be able to use the USB 2.0 driver from the CD which came with your mobo. Jabo
  5. Doh. Guess I should've looked there first. Thanks for the link Jim Jabo

man, is there no problem out there not solved by a bit of alcohol? If there is, I've not found it yet. As Homer (Simpson - not the Greek chappie) said - "Alcohol, the solution to and cause of all of life's little problems" Jabo
  9. Thanks guys, The on-board battery is good according to my multimeter I've removed and reinserted the mem sticks, and cleaned all the contacts and the slots so there's no dust=short possibilities. I'll try some spare memory in it first before I consign it to the skip though. Thanks again Jabo

    firefly

Heh, never noticed that before Jim, but there's a definite similarity Jabo

    firefly

The Firefly is usually classified as a 'heavy' fighter which excelled in the nightfighter and asw roles with a massive range of 1,300 miles and a top speed a whisker under 400mph (about 50mph slower than the Seafire). I've not been able to find any records of actions yet, but the type went into service in '43 and was still operational at the end of the Korean war, although by this time it was restricted to asw and anti-shipping roles. There are about 15 examples still in existence worldwide and a few airworthy ones (all in the US AFAIK). Sadly the sole european airworthy example which was owned by the Royal Navy Historic Flight was lost in a crash at Flying Legends in 2003, killing the pilot and one of the RNHF ground crew who was along for the ride. The two photos below were taken shortly before the accident (incidentally, if anyone thinks they're in poor taste, PM me and I'll remove them) On a more cheerful note however, there are now two examples undergoing restoration at Duxford, one of which is going to Hendon, and the other which is being restored to airworthy condition. 12. OK, here's an interesting one, I'm looking at a PC problem for a friend of mine - it's a 'bitsa' PC I built for him a while back (about 3 years ago) and it's now throwing up a slight problem - it won't POST. AFAIK the hardware in it is exactly as it was when I put it together, but now when it's switched on it just beeps - 3 times then an 8 sec pause and then 3 more beeps (repeats until bored). Does anyone have a list of the BIOS beep codes for the ASROCK K78SX which might help me to diagnose the fault? TIA Jabo
  13. I think that probably goes for quite a number of different actions/command decisions thoughout the conflict - there's any number of points where the course of the war could have been changed. For instance the switch from attacking RAF bases to cities during the BoB. "for the want of a nail..." etc Jabo

Hi again chaps - sorry about missing the SEOW tonight, but I'm not at home at present, and don't have access to a pc capable of playing the game but at least I can get to the forum. In answer to your unasked question Tonar
  15. Damn, all the food-related jobs are taken

Don't listen to him Jim, he's just jealous... Thx for the larger logo, it'll be useful for the shirts (sigh) - must get back to the sewing. Jabo
  17. LOL
  18. Good man - I'm not going there for a loooong time yet myself. Jabo
  19. Damn, I'd buy that myself! Ditto all the above m8, but I had to spend extra on one particular item it'd be the gfx card - NVIDIA's current 8600/8800 series are very good but the top spec models can be pricey - shop around for the best deals. Mind you, I'm running the game on a card that's a a few years old with no frame rate problems (well, only occasionally) at very high quality settings - can't squeeze to 'perfect' tho
  20. ~S~ Enforcer - couldn't agree with you more m8 Jabo
  21. ~S~ Campi, glad to have you aboard - made a nice kill in that P-39 of yours on Tuesday night as well... Jabo
  22. Hey hey,
  23. Yep - I'd agree it's a Flanker, although one of the early ones, the later Su-30 derivation has dinky canard foreplanes. This photo's been floating around on the web for yonks and the current belief is that its a fake and this is actually a stationary aircraft with the landing gear digitally removed for two reasons (which I didn't notice) one being that there's no blurring of the background which you would certainly get with an aircraft moving at speed, and two that there's no evidence of exhaust from the engines. I'm no expert in these matters, but if it is a fake it's a damn good one. Saw the Su-30 a couple of years ago at a show (can't remember whether it was Farnborough or the IAT) and as you say Jim, it's a big ol' airplane, but I remember those pilots really throwing it about the sky...Nice work Jabo PS. Good photos those, I'm not normally a big fan of airliner piccies, but there's some nice ones there
  24. Indeed,
  25. Some more of these... P: Autopilot tends to drop a wing when fuel imbalance reaches 500lbs. S: Flight manual limits maximum fuel imbalance to 300lbs. P: Unfamiliar noise coming from No2 engine. S: Engine run for three hours. Noise now familiar. P: Pilot's clock inoperative. S: Wound clock.
