  1. Glen , planesets last time were of course fine, it was just in case you were thinking of altering or adding to them, then I would be glad to offer advice on this or any other points that you may have considered over the last time we played this- I think most will agree that there is no need to make any big changes as it was a great time and very close apart from last mission where I got my tactics a bit wrong

    dave

Dave, apart from the second line fighter concept, I would not mind adding planes for each side as long as it "historically accurate" (I know that is a loaded term in many respects) and kept the balance. For instance, I think the P-40M is a neat little plane, and would have some value as a quick strike fighter, but I have no idea is there were anywhere near Normandy, or it was relegated to other theatres by then.

Let me put together the updated manual with the planesets, and send you a copy, and see if there is anything that can be added.

Here's a site I've found on the D-Day Allied air forces:

    US 9th TAF

    http://www3.sympatico.ca/angels_eight/9tac.html

    RAF 2nd TAF

    http://www3.sympatico.ca/angels_eight/2tac.html

It's not an official site, but it looks well researched: official sites confirm most of these aircraft.

  2. A B17 and B 24 flying in formation over the harbor next to my house , what a sight and sound. they are giving tours and rides at the airfield nearby for fundraising. I will go get some pics if the light is still there . going to grab my girfriend and go right now soooo great to see these war birds in action

    Cheers

    Mobius one

Wow! I'll get into my Me-109 K-4 and be right over!!!

  3. I think this is about as close as I'll get. I ended up drawing the numbers.

    Skin Link02.jpg

Maybe nudge the one and the five a little closer, now that I see them side by side.

What prog. are you using to skin with? I downloaded GIMP, but I haven't begun to learn it yet...I need more tutorials. I would like to be able to do skins myself...

  4. Thanks, M8. More good reading: always looking for more tips. Every now and then something really poignant comes up and helps me to improve quite a bit.

Edit: yes, I used the word "poignant"; so what?!

  5. Okay... that's a little weird.

Over a hundred views in in half an hour?

Anyway I'm going to pull out the magic wand, then try to smooth it out after blowing it up around 500%. It's all I can think of at the moment.

That was probably my fault. I've had an intermittent problem @ home using Feedreader; it calls up window after window of Internet Explorer trying to open the thread in a new window until I shut off the computer...I thinks it's a virus, but hopefully it's just a Feedreader glitch...it's only happened twice.

  6. Ha! excellent Rattler; glad you were able to do this, as Ive been working my keyster off trying to get my photography site up and other distractions.

It was great fun driving Delta nuts in that never ending one man Luftberry circle I was in. I cant believe how tight that thng turns........I nearly tossed my cookies when I saw him auger in-man I thought he was never gonna give up. I got so turned on that I somehow managed to gun BG with those goofy mounted guns on the P-11.

If i had listened to Pete, I would hve made it back home safely despite the odds. I got carried away and went kill crazy after blasting 3 AI P-51s outta the air on that last misn, including two in about 15 seconds apart in a classic ambush from behind and low....never done that before. AFter i had scored my 3rd stang, I was approaching another that looked in trouble. I saw Pete message me to "get out alive". I said ok, just a min, while i approached number 4 from behind. Then i saw he had already lost his engine and I broke off.......but collided wiht him when i did. If i had just listened to Pete......another realistic aspect of this sim. You can go nuts racking up your score, take one too many risks, and.......

Sorry that it didn't work out. We weren't wingmen, and I did forge ahead of you early on, but I just wanted to let you know there were fewer Blue around to help you. That's the great thing about online play: actual pilots communicating together!

  7. Hey Rattler, great post and great captioning :)

Hypersnap looks pretty cool, being able to add text etc. from within the proggy is neat!

I've actually had Hypersnap for a very long time: it was one of the 1st programs to be able to take screenshots of Glide-based video rendered games. I have the registered version of it, but not on my main machine, just my laptop. It has Paint-like drawing and editting tools right on it, and can save and open most major image file types. The registered version doesn't put the "stamp" on it, but even the unregistered version stamp is quite unobtrusive.

  8. ~S~ Pete, you are indeed a remarkable man ! , husband , father , virtual pilot, BLOODY MIND READER !!

    Good shooting sir.

BTW how do you post those screenies at full size like that M8 ? Hypersnaps ?? what ?? my head hurtz ! lol

    ~S~ Clueless

I save the files into Photobucket which can force 800x600 resolution; I use the bottom html script and paste it directly into the message. I then add th etext explanations.

  9. Where in the hell did you find the word "klootzak", and did you know what it meant...LMAO

    Great work!

And thx to all who flew till the wee hours with me, I had great fun, especially the loooong dogfight is something to repeat ;)

I'm 2nd generation Dutch: I do know what it means, and you probably said it at least in your head, too!

  10. Quazi about to be pounced on...really nice skin though!

    uhohQuaz.jpg

Rattler hits Quazi's P-38 on another mission. I thought it was fatal, so I left him. Little did I know it wasn't. He later went on to take out a He-111

    RattlersmacksQuazsP38.jpg

Quazi nails a bunker but good!

    Quaznailsabunker.jpg

My bomb about to send some Jerries to Valhalla.

    lastbomb.jpg

Enforcer absolutely massacred P-51 #5: unfortunately, as he passed through the blast, he lost a wing...

    Enforcernails5.jpg

    butlosthisownwing.jpg

DT and Sged had quite a rolling scissors: amazing for Stephan in a 110! DT eventually succumbed to 4-5 Krauts.

Painless after I snuck up behind him.

  11. had another idea last night.....if the ship aaa is too fierce, how about disabling it and placing a normal aaa unit on a deck somewhere, would that work?

Well, you can achieve the same thing with the ship by really forcing down the rate of fire. The other problem is that you can't raise the AAA above sea level, so you can't place it on the deck.

keeping the carriers and decks above sea level was a real problem for the blues wasn't it.

    a20vszero.jpg

still blew your a$$ away a couple of times, didn't we?!! :knob:

    West-coast hippie!

  12. HA! the sad thing is that this is exactly the way it happened, rt down to my quote as Rattler blew both my F-ing wings AND my tail off wiht those THREE mk108 30mm thumpers. Not bad for a gun with a muzzle velocityof around 600 fps. I felt the thump and the plane jerked a bit when he hit me, so i did an external view to see the damage......and discovered that most of my damned airplane was gone.....so this is not much of an exaggeration.

This is pretty good Rattler, and will probably be found by future archeologists of the next millenium who will take this as an accurate account of WW2 in the air.

    Thanks, Carl.

Now I need to work on the one from Sunday afternoon where we flew 109's and 190's escorting Heinkels vs Spits. I took out 3 of the bombers while the other Spits were dealing with the escorts, then I did exactly what BG's post says not to do: fly into their MG arcs...PK'ed

  13. I love these kind of campaigns. Like BG said, it would be good to change campaigns every once in awhile, but I like to see them fininsh too. I guess I like fighting to the end more than the variation. Flying a DCG with the HH's was one of the best times I had many months ago! My 2 cents...

  14. It all began one fine day with 2 Me-109 G-14's flown by Sunflower and yours truly, as we went out to intercept a flight of P-63's flown by the diabolical trio of BeeBop, Emann, and Enforcer.

The reds opened up on some poor, unsuspecting German army troops, obviously transporting aid material to starving French people...

    Arthurstrafing.jpg

    ArthurandEmannstraferun.jpg

    Arthursbombrun.jpg

Rattler gets in the saddle on Emann...

    RattleropensuponEmann.jpg

    Which has the usual results...

    Emannsdisintegratingplane.jpg

Luckily Emann is able to get out safely...

    Emanngetsoutsafe.jpg

Arthur and I have an incredible head-on encounter...

    closepasspart1.jpg

    supercloseheadonRattlerandArthur.jpg

Little did I know that Arthur hit me and caused a fuel leak...I would later force land only to be strafed by the AI P-63 #8...

    closepass2.jpg

    A happy Carl...

    CarlandwingmanthinktheyvegotWhite6.jpg

    A happy Pete

    Rattlerlettingloose.jpg

    An unhappy Carl

    Carlsplanemissingstuff.jpg

But at least he's safe too..

    Carlgetsoutsafely.jpg

While being chased by Clarke, Arthur still take s the time to ground pound...ever the consumate professional. It's those little attention to details...

    Pursuitandarthurstillgrdpounding.jpg

But not all good things end happily...

    ClarkeremovesArthurswing.jpg

Do you think he can get out from this altitude?

    WillArthursurvive.jpg

I guess not. Still, a great flight, red. Only Clarke survived in the cockpit, but it was a fun furball.

    Arthursend.jpg

  15. so what happened in the second mission ? the red won the first due to our couragous bombers taking out a carrier- I think sunflower got the final hit - but what happened afterwards?

well done to the red fighter group in that first mission we managed to keep midway clear long enough for the bombers to take off - my efforts were reduced by severe stutters which caused 2 mid air crashes -apologies to blue pilots involved but I couldnt do anything to prevent this

I liked the icon sets and map set glen - it made it difficult to pick out enemy but maintain contact with friends , also made you work on navigation so added to atmosphere

I was one of those, and don't worry Dave: it happens. I managed to get a couple of F4's just before that anyway. A great time, Glenn, and thanks! Can't wait for the next big bash, but don't rush yourself. We need to pace our gifted m8's so that they don't burn out!

  16. How ironic that Halsey missed Midway because of shingles-not as bad as

an appendix exploding (ouch), but at least youre in good company. I hope

you can join the fight to preserve western civilization from the likes of

(whispering) Psycho and his evil followers from the east.

Carl, you're 1st on the list.
