Still not his birthday yet....I think I'll kill this thread......
-
That looks lovely, Dave! I'm impressed! I'm glad that you stuck it out too. I've had such problems before, and binned the thing in disgust at my efforts!
Nice job.

Have a great holiday, you Yanks! (even if your aren't all Yankees, or Yankee fans, or whatever - you USA people, you know who you are!)
-
It is getting close to his actual birthday though......geez, mate - you're only 5 years younger than my father! You still come across as such a young fellow, BG!
-
Happy Birthday BG! I hope you have a good one
)
It's not his birthday, guys. It was the ATM's anniversary, which JP decided to celebrate. No one knows why, and we don't ask about such matters. Kelly is Kelly.

Interesting account of a P-38 driver who says he could out-turn a Ki-43.

I use a Badger Anthem 155 airbrush, with a compressor and 5 gallon airtank, and I'll never go back to a regular brush or spray bomb.

What is it with me and trees for pete's sake?
Geez.
You leave me out of it, buddy.
They must see you as your liberal, environmentally conscious, granola munching, commie self, dude!
I'm sure that's it....
Maybe your yard needs a shrubbery.....

I got both a used TIR (BG's old TIR3 with vector expansion, running 6DOF), and a used set of CH Pro pedals (from ebay.)
I love them both.
I would go for the used route for rudder pedals again, as I got the pedals and a good Saitek X45 stick and throttle for about $100 CDN.
If I could afford it, I'd get a new TIR 5. I like the X45 as well. It's been a good stick for me. The CH Pro pedals are rock solid.

Sitting on its gear (finally!)

Ah, that would explain it. So are you using a regular plastic cement, or some sort of cyano?
I use 3 types: a cyano based instant glue, white glue for plastic parts, and various Testors liquid glues (red tube, and very thin liquid in a bottle.) I prefer to use the Testors liquid for most things, but if I need a quick solid joint, out comes the cyano. It's good for gap filling as well.
-
They would be scraped off, mate. You're correct - model glues do not mix well with paints, as the solvent melts the paint rather than the plastic. However, as the solvents also craze clear plastics, I'll be using white glue (Elmer's) to attach the screen and canopy, so there's no problem.very nice m8. As a long since retired modeller, I have a question. ISTR that glues dont stick painted parts together, but I notice that the areas around the canopy (for instance) are painted. How you get things to stick to a painted surface? I'm guessing that either the glues or the paints have changed in the last 20-odd years?

Are those miniatures designed for battle reinactments, a'la Warhammer?

Nice Pup! Great collection of pics. Thanks!

A bad end to a good mission.

does anyone know what this is?
Focke Wulf P.II??

And nice job on the Beau Rattler, I see you managed not having glue on the glass. I remember it was always that part where I had to be extra careful.
That's because the glass is not glued in yet, mate! After spraying. Also, I use plain white glue for clear parts, not regular plastic model glue or ACC instant glue either. It will craze the clear parts. White glue (Elmer's, or similar) is good enough.
-
Do you mean me? I do like the Beau - I admit it. Happiness is truly a pair of big bristols.
Looking forward to the finished article m8.

Yes sir, I mean you. I hope that you'll like the finished product!

Here's my 11 year old's Hally. I set up the airbrush for him, but he did all of the painting himself. I just need to convince him to neaten up the tyres with a brush, and it's better than I ever did at his age!

Awesome CGI simulation of the flight and landing. The integrated cockpit and tower voices is a fantastic touch. You can't detect any emotion at all in any of their voices.
Best line:Capt. Sullenberger: "Got any ideas?" F/O Skiles "Actually, no."

surely one of the most desirable kits ever made
Looks beautiful. I have a Spit 24 to work on after the Beau. My P-51 is almost in the paint shop. I hope that it'll be done in a couple weeks.
My son is starting to out-pace me. He does a model in a few days! He just built a Halifax, and sprayed it himself using my airbrush. Pretty good for a 11 year old! I'll post a pic tomorrow.
Start sweet talkin' the missus, Dave! You'll get Johnnie's plane yet!

Just to tease Nick a bit. The pen is for scale reference. This is a BIG plane!
Theoretical Question?

From what I've read about the Great War, the pilots truly believed themselves to be Knights of the Sky, and successors to chivalric tradition and all of its codes. They wouldn't normally have gone at each other once the other was put out of action. There are umpteen stories of dogfights that ended when 1 pilot ran out of ammunition, and the other waved, saluted, and flew away, not willing to shoot an unarmed opponent. I'm sure that there were also cases of cold blooded killers like Beurling, who probably would've shot the bugger where he landed.
I don't think that I'd be able to kill a pilot like that.
