  1. M8's, First of all, thanks to frior-one for starting this thread in the first-place, as it has been of considerable help. Based on stated (or non-stated) preferences, I divided up all currently pledged players into three groups; Allied Core, Axis Core and Mercenaries. The idea is to form, at this point, the opposing teams while allowing for some flexibility for unforeseen additions and/or drop-outs. The core of each team can begin discussing strategy and such while the Mercs can wait to hear the final plans on D-Day, and thus not be privy to things they should not hear should they need to switch sides. Better yet, the Mercs (I among them especially) should pledge to fly for either team when assigned, making use of no special knowledge gained if previously flying or discussing plans with, the other. Groups are as follows: ALLIED Core BG Guitarman68 Arsenal Redeye Waldo.Pepper Cannon Jensenpark Lt. Emann Topace AXIS Core delta7 frior-one Von Tonar Psycho Sged Pooka BadAim **Klinger **Rattler MERCs Doubletap B16ENK Knutsac Dazza# **Update 6/8/06 6:30am Klinger and Painless assigned to Axis Core as sged and Pooka may not be there at start. # Possible, not definite D-Day Command BG came up with an interesting suggestion a week or two back regarding the appointment of Air Commanders for the D-Day scenario and I have been mulling it over. It is something they use in Joint Ops and while I certainly thought something like that would be useful, but I was hesitant to make things too formalistic. We certainly are a lot more informal (and let's fact it, disciplined) than the Joint Ops sessions. BUT, considering the whole point of this session (besides fun) was coordination and strategy, I can’t escape the logic of the concept. I particularly finding it absurd that I have been emphasizing coordination and teamwork, but was going to, on the very day of the event, say, “Okay, here’s your team, the server is up. Now, GO MAKE A PLAN ON THE RUNWAY AS YOU START THOSE ENGINES!â€
  2. Couple of announcements regarding the D-Day event this friday: 1) DF server will most likely be offline both Tuesday and Wednesday as I want to do some more playtesting of both the missions and the server. 2) The missions are largely complete. What I am testing now are play-balance and frame rates issues. 3) The only issue with frame rates I have found so far is with the last one, Breakout, which takes place around Caen. Cities all by themselves are a frame rate suck, so anything you add in or around them have to weighed carefully. After testing on my older PC, I will try to give an very rough idea of what graphics settings you should have for the last mission. If, and I don't think this will be the case, I am unhappy with the overall results, the battle may switch to the western front around St. Lo. One test you can do for now is load a mission using the Normandy map, and fly over Caen. If the city gives you Frame Rates fits (gun sight view can be really hoggy), take down the graphics level and try to reach a good balance. If you run into real issues, let me know. 4) I will post what I hope is a fairly complete player name list for the server by wednesday, along with the initial pilot roster for both sides.
  3. I am not one to go off Microsoft bashing at the drop of a hat, but here is an blog post showing a couple of reasons why the company ends up earning at least some of the acrimony that comes its way. ¿Vista No Es Buena? http://brain-terminal.com/posts/2006/06/02/no-es-buena
  4. Frior, The AAA will not be, by popular request, heavy in any sense. It will be present and a factor but a minor one. I am also concerned about frame rates and am trying to keep maps from being overcrowded. I may change around the last mission because of the hit the city of Caen itself causes. I will be sure to run the missions first on my older Dell for a good measure of where we are at, but the actual mission server will run from the new one. Doubletap
  5. All, I have sent out a Word document via email detailing the upcoming D-Day event for the K9 Squadron. Let me know if you did not receive it, or unable to open it. Those inviting others to fly that night, please be sure to pass the info along. Doubletap
  6. Ben Affleck is able to read?!?
  7. I need to keep my mind occupied or I might just take a torch to the place...
  8. Sorry that I do not have more extensive information on all the planes, but I was able to dig up some information on the "Jacky C II": ****** " The ‘Jacky C I’ was a P-40B model converted from one of the original Hawk designs. The plane was based on Hawaii when the Japanese struck in 1941 and its pilot, George M. Granning, managed shoot down 4 Japanese aircraft during the battle without suffering significant damage. However, upon landing Granning claimed to have had a vision that his stunning achievement would later be depicted in an atrocious film in which he would be played by a tall doofus with little acting ability. Upon reaching the hanger, Granning immediately hopped out of the "Jacky C I", doused it in aviation fuel and set it ablaze. (Granning’s subsequent court-martial was overturned a week after the premiere of Pearl Harbor.) The ‘Jacky C II’ had a bitter longer of a career. It was a P-40C originally shipped to Britain as part of their original order for fighter planes, which were in short supply at that time. Briefly assigned to Theodore A. Bumrupture, who renamed the fighter "Yankee Rubbish", the plane proved unpleasing to its pilot. Bumrupture was scornful of the fighter's entire design, and was quoted as saying, ‘I would rather fly in one of our trusty old Hurricane IIBs for the entire war than ever step foot in the cockpit of this atrocity ever again.’ (Bumrupture did indeed fly a Hurricane IIB for the rest of the war, managing to expend 1,456,234 rounds of .303 ammunition while failing to bring down a single aircraft even though he was apparently a good shot.) Sent back to the States and renamed "Jacky C II", the fighter was part of the original group of planes sent to China to serve in the Flying Tigers against the Japanese. Originally scornful of the P-40, Japanese pilots dubbed it the Kooyan-Gazen-Horchee, or ‘Yankee Running Dog Rubbish’. However, once the Tigers were upgraded to the ‘E’ model and began using Boom and Zoom tactics, the Japanese began calling it the Hunai-Dailen-Ichen-Dornai, or ‘What the #%$!@ Was That?’ When the Tigers were disbanded, the ‘Jacky C II’ was transferred to the Russian front where it was renamed “Capitalist Yankee Rubbishâ€
  9. Thank you for a much appreciated laugh. The best part is how everyone else joins in.
  10. YOU, sir, shall feel my wrath whence we meet again airborne!!!
  11. Yeah, that looks about the size of it. That engine staring me in the face was astounding.
  12. From your keyboard to God's ears, or at least Peter Jackson's...
  13. Jeremy, That was my first response, but then it seems to have an internal payload. Or is that something else on the bottom? Hmmm. Or is that just an access panel for maintenance? DAVE!! We need you!! Report to the message boards! In any event, it was damn big. From what I could see it made the corsair look small. I should have gotten a comparison shot.
  14. Yes, great weather. As much as I wanted to fly and work on some missions, I'm glad I went.
  15. Here are some photos from Sudnay's air show. I have some short video clips I will post later... Queen of the Show. Not something you want to be looking at in an Axis fighter... Ditto... The gentlemen on the right used to repair B-17's in England. He was among the crews responsible for fixing the neavier damage to the birds like missing sections, not bullet holes... Couple of shots of the bomb bay... One of the bomb racks... Engines Starting... (I have video as well) Taxing B-17 Returns... (It's in the background) I don't care what the flight model says. P-40; its a sweet ride... And looks freaking cool! Mustang and F4U in formation. More Mustang... More F4U... TOYS! B-24, I Believe... Not sure what plane this was; could not get a look at the side. It was freakin' HUGE! Ready and Briefing Room Mock-Ups... 2 A-10s (One Taxiing in Background) A-10 Right After Take Off Soviet Jet L-39 (I have video)
  16. OOH! OOH! OOH! ME WANNA SEE!!!
  17. Hello? hello-Hello-HELLO-HELLO-Hello-hello-hello--- Echo! echo-Echo-ECHO!-ECHO!-Echo-echo-echo---- *crickets*
  18. An Axe?? It looks like he opened up on the thing with twin Hispanos!! Either that or he had a REALLY bad case of gas...
  19. M8's, I apologize for all the confusion regarding the FBD D-Day event. In trying to accomodate everyone I only ended up creating alot of confusion for everyone for no net benefit. As I wrote earlier, with such a large group of people, there will always be conflicts no matter what date you pick. I am going to set the date officially to June 9th, the original date proposed. Orientation Server will be up by 5pm EST, if not earlier. First mission, Operation Chattanooga Choo Choo, will commence at exactly 5:30pm EST. It will last 1 hour unless objectives are met earlier. It will be followed by D-Day, also 1 hour max, and finally Breakout. The last mission will finish up no later than 8:30 pm EST. Join when you can, although it would be great if you could make the whole thing. Sides will need to be even. Odd man out will be Allied. Further details regarding missions will be forthcoming. I will tally those who have given me side preference for now and post it later. Be aware some people might not get first choice depending on totals. I will fly for either side depending on what is needed. If you are willing to be a swing player (not what you think, Kelly) as well, let me know. Best two out of three map victories dictates the winner. This thread will contain all the update info. We will fly using 4.05m unless we discover some major bug in it from now until mission time. Doubletap
  20. Hey Roger, I uploaded those files yesterday, but I do not see them in the mission download section. Did I perhaps err in uploading them?
  21. Glenn has a knack for confusing the hell out of everyone including me. I think he is compensating for shortness in another critical area. Who told you my left pinkie was shorter than the other? Anyway, sorry for any confusion, but I am trying to make sure as many m8's as possible can fly. Except one. What night CAN'T you make it BG? We'll fly then...
  22. Looks like Oleg did upgrade the server software to 4.05m, so we can fly it as well... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee/forums/a/ ... 1201008734
  23. Took me long enough to get around to it... I uploaded to the K9 Server the following of my mission collections: North Africa Campaign (Tobruk) (5 different missions, 4 of which have multiple versions) Moonlight Mozzies (3 different nights on the same mission) Mozzie_Cologne (4 variations of same mission) Night Terror (2 variations of same mission) Most of them have multiple versions of the same mission, so that players won't always know exactly what to expect. I hope to add to these from time to time and will post updates. I added what I hope are representative photos.
  24. The DF server software has not (to my knoweldge and from what I see on Ubi) been upgraded to 4.05m, so it will have to be 4.04m Gents.
