I will start throwing some pics up in the gallery. What's the parameters for the video? I made a 10 minutes HD video of my first flight, but YouTube gagged in trying to take it in, at least from work. It's over 2GB. DT

Over the summer I finally got to take a flight in a T-6 Trainer at the Museum of America airpower that my father had gotten my for my birthday 2 years ago. I will post video of that soon, but while I was there, I bumped into a friend of mine who had bought his dad a flight on a C-47 from the same airfield on the same day. He sent me some really nice shots of me in the Texan: So as a thank you I took some footage my dad shot of his father's flight and put together a momento for him: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-CkbwXOUNU

Much to my chagrin, while working on a couple of missions, I discovered that AI apparently always dump their bomb payloads (internal or external) before landing. This quite frustratingly prevents me from using them as resupply units for bombs and I am assuming torps. I am afraid to ask this because I am already guessing the answer, but does anyone know of a way to get AI to KEEP their bombs while landing? DT

Gents, While working with MDS mission building I was unable to find a comprehensive list of Static Objects which hold Resources and also act as Refuel, Rearm and Repair stations, so I made my own. MDS WORKSHEET The link is to a Google Documents version of a spreadsheet which lists all the currently known (to me that is) objects than can hold resources (fuel, bullets, bombs, engines, etc) and the default values for same if they have any, which many don't. The default values are those in bordered cells. The file also can act as worksheet for a particular mission or campaign to keep track of alterations you make to these values as you see fit. If anyone would like an Excel copy of this, let me know and I will send it to you. I was unable to upload it to the vault. Doubletap

...since I have flown IL2? Two things I can't believe I am mis-remembering: 1 ) You CAN activate the Iron Sight in an aircraft if it has one, right? I can't seem to find the damn key entry in the command list. I know you could do this. 2 ) When you record a track in a multiple position aircraft, can you NOT switch to the other views in the aircraft when reviewing the track? I thought you could do so. Like, after doing a bombing run, you could look at the bomber sight to see what you did there. No? Double "Mind like a rusty steel trap" Tap

While working with a lot Japanese and American infantry, a couple of immediate observations. Some of this may be old news. -When killed in a mission, they are listed by the game as "Tanks". Have not confirmed that they are considered armor for purposes of mission objectives. They DO carry along border flag, and thus can advance a front all by their lonesome. -From initial tests (4xIJA Infantry vs. 4xAmerican infantry) Japanese infantry seem to get the best of American infantry in 1:1 fights. Japanese inflict more damage early, but Americans SEEM to make a little ground further in. More testing needed. -Firefights at range seem to drag out quite a while, which can lead to units jumbled in along a frontline. Bring em in close if you want things finished sooner. -American infantry fire bazooka occasionally while IJA only appear to fire guns. If you watch the GI's closely, you'll see rocket flares and trails. They often miss opposing infantry, but when they hit it seems effective. Wonder if it accounts for the kill ratio, and whether they would be better against armor. -The infantry sometimes apparently "fall" a bit through the ground, with only their chests up visible. Not sure how often it happens, but I bet it makes them considerably harder to hit/kill. -Aircraft running over infantry will have large important pieces sheared off. Was not able to observe if the infantry suffered any damage. Makes them into possible commandos for screwing with an airfield. Do not know what happens if they run through parked aircraft yet. -Infantry seem to walk at 15km/hr. Some terrain will affect this, but it not as much as it would appear. They walk on water as far as rivers are concerned. - More to come.

Will do. Jut started working with it, so I am reluctant to start spouting off about what I THINK I know about it before I know for certain. As great as I think MDS is, I think the manual is pretty unclear about some key things, unfortunately. DT Hah! Yes. I remember someone remarked when I pondered my situation in regards to flying after my daughter was born: "Basically, you're screwed." True, but it was worth it, right? DT

Delta! Good to hear from you. Yes, I would like that. Everything well? DT

No problem. Couple of questions pertaining to that then. When you say flying nights, do you guys do things like the bomber themed nights they did via Ubi boards? Second, any preference for mission lengths? The reason I ask is that I am currently converting the Guadalcanal campaign I had worked on previously from something meant to be flown 1 once a week, into a single 3 hour mission, which I view as manageable for a single mission if there is plenty of action, but pretty much the max length. I might also be able to make it into a single side coop event. I should also be able to convert the old D-Day dogfight campaign into a MDS one with I think some interesting additions. DT (You see we've kept firmly to our high recruiting standards, mostly based on consumption of alcohol and questionable morals {especially where sheep are concerned}) I wouldn't want it any other way, Badaim. I like having friends in low places. Well, again, 3 hours would be the max duration for any particular mission. I am hoping the Guad one would be engaging enough to make it wiz by. Another option is to break it into 2-3 1 hour/90 minute chunks, which would allow altering the scenario a bit based on who one the last round. Actually, while I am experimenting and designing, I really need to join you all in some MDS missions to see how they flow. I have NOT flown in any, so that would be instructive. Which MDS missions out there have you guys particularly enjoyed? DT

Possible Help On Running Il2 Ultrapack On Win 7
DoubleTap replied to DoubleTap's topic in Hardware Hell
Oh, I am good for now, Gents. All I need this for is to screw around with FMB and MDS, and it appears to work fine for that. I just thought I would mention that playing around with some of the settings above got it to work for me, somehow. Snacko, not sure which part of what I wrote you are asking about, but having just tried it again, when I click on the IL21946 disc, I hear it spool up and Win 7 brings up a window asking if I want to run setup.exe from the disc. I click "Yes", and literally nothing else happens. Desktop does nada. When I was clicking the exe for the transferred Ultrapack version, I always got at the least the Selection screen to come up, but without any tweaking when I clicked on it to launch IL-2, it would disappear for about 3 seconds, and then the selection screen would pop back up.
