I got it from the File Front Link Toad Posted. That's where I got the last one and it downloaded at 1.5mbs per sec.
I wondered about the archive situation. The small file I opened the archive in Win rar and clicked on the exe. I wondered how that would be able to open all the other zipped files. I tried both exe's BTW including the switcher exe. I noticed it didn't browse for a link; it just extracted.

Oh, and there are 2 exe files in the smaller file.

Hmmm! Very strange. I downloaded the 8 files to a folder on desktop on my laptop. I clicked on the il2.exe and it started extracting. But when I go to the il2-1946 program file, I can't find the AAA switcher nor do I see any of the Mods files.
When I installed to my desktop, over a week ago, everything went smoothly.

If it had come with a downgrade option to XP I definitely would have taken it. Mind you, I am not having any substantial issues with Vista other than not being able to install Nero version 6 which is not compatible with Vista. Version 9 is about $100 Can and I can always use my XP desktop to burn discs.
I will ask them tomorrow about the warranty re Vista. I think it was Jabo who told me that when I suggested converting to XP. I think he also said some of the new stuff in that version of computer would not work with XP. But then I could be wrong about who said it. My memory sometimes plays tricks on me those days.
Not sure I am crazy about using Ghost or Snapshot to take an image. I made a couple of recovery DVD discs when I took possession of this computer. Wouldn't they do the same thing?

I thought about doing that but I understand that invalidates the warranty. I am going back to the store tomorrow and will ask them about it.

Thanks Rog. I was able to find this on the Internet. I didn't realise it was Vista feature. Glad I asked before deleting it.
I think the reason the sytem error dumps are so large is because I bought the laptop on Clearance but with full warranty with a 30 day "no questions asked" store return policy. Apparently some other dude had bought this unit and returned it to the store after 14 days. I am beginning to think he may have returned it for a reason.

I have run decrapifier but it hasn't deleted anything I posted about earlier in this thread. The big files still sit in disc cleaner.

@ Cuda. Thank you sir. I will give that a try. Some of the bloatware won't unistall via Add or Remove Progs.
@ JP. It seems to run it ok JP. Has a 2nd class video card, a 9600GS. I have it running in excellent although it will play in perfect. Haven't tried a fraps in Black Death yet.

Thought I would run disc cleanup and defrag. When I bring up disc cleanup, it shows some big files such as Hibernation File Cleaner (2.99gb), System error memory dump files (278MB).
Is it ok to include these files when I run disc cleanup?

Roger, Rog. I didn't realise you were agreeing with me. I see SmackZ is having problems with downloading over the Net and I wanted Longstone to clearly understand, it is better to get the DVD.

I hear you Rog but I continue to read horror stories on Ubi Zoo almost every day, about people who have had corruption issues or trouble with verification if they have to download a second time. Perhaps you are more technically skilled than some of us and don't have those problems. I also thought you installed your game from the DVD.

I honestly can't understand why anyone would recommend downloading il2 over the Internet when it is fairly easy to find the DVD in the stores or on line. I must have reinstalled this game 20-30 times over the years and it is a lot simpler and accurate to do it from a disc. Oh well!

Hi Rog,
I just picked up an Acer 6920G laptop. Jabo has kindly helped me through some of the setup.
I think I have got everything squared away correctly and all the drivers updated etc. but could you take a quick peep at my dxdiag and confirm. Many thanks.

I have two extra copies that I bought for situations like this. If your friend can't find a copy in store (Best Buy) then I would be happy to send him/her one of my spares. I think it is much better to have a DVD than a download.

Your download is superb Logos. What is it? Cable or maybe Comcast? Upload is not shabby either. You should be able to host at least 20, maybe more.

Sorry to say he won't be able to join us Longstone and will not be able to find any servers on HL either. He needs to bite the bullet and pick up a copy of il2_1946. He should be able to find one for around $20.00
If he needs help finding the DVD, I can point him in the right direction.

He stayed fairly close to the ground at 15ft although he said he could go higher. I guess we will see him at air displays etc. Good stuff.

That is the screen that popped up when I installed to desktop Rog but it didn't appear when I installed on the laptop. It just started extracting. I wonder if it could be a Vista issue. I may have a search at AAA.
