  1. If you are thinking of a ram upgrade, you would be a lot better off going to 2 gig (2 x 1 sticks). Il2 runs fine on 1 but I believe you will need 2 to run BOB. Might as well bite the bullet now and save yourself money in the long run.
  2. They are out of Waterloo by the name of Packet Works. It is high speed wireless and you need line of sight and be within 20 kms of their tower. They are going to upgrade me first week in August and I hope to get much faster speeds both up and down.
  3. Six months ago I bought a Belkin 900VA Back up Power Supply. Worked great especially when there was a power outage and my computer and screen kept working, permitting an orderly shutdown. This morning I was working away at my computer when my computer and screen shutdown. I can tell you my heart was in my mouth for a few seconds then I realized the UPS had likely failed. When I bypassed it, everything came right back up except you know what? Called Belkin customer service in the US of A and within minutes they were shipping me an upgraded Belkin 1100 at no charge. They are out of stock on my model. If anyone is thinking of buying a UPS I can highly recommend Belkin. Incidently, it was Luckyboy who told me to get a Belkin because of their great customer service.
  4. I just got a similar PCI USB card and installed it yesterday. It seemed to install fine with Windows driver and when I checked the device manager it was ok. But it created havoc with my computer and screwed up all my other USB outlets. Tried it in a different PCI slot but no better. I took it out but had to reload some driver for MSFFB2 and CH Throttle. Anyone ever had similar problems?
  5. I could be talked into hosting today frior-one. I want to test out the A20/Mossie night mission. I have added a couple of Tempests to the mix. I have also shortened one of the Goodenough missions that took hours to fly the other night. Usual time.
  6. That is some smoking download speed sqed.
  7. Agree but I think we are heading in the right direction.
  8. Very interesting guys. Very good download speed sged but your upload speed may be holding you back a bit. I wonder why the Internet Service Providers are so stingy with the upload speeds.
  9. sqed and I were discussing speed tests last night. I use several but find this one to be the most reliable and accurate. Usually, I select the Chicago one but the closer the better. Arsenal, I see you have one right in Atlanta. It would be interesting to see some examples from the DD's and Hellers, and in particular, the gents who host. Here is the link for the speedtest: http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ BG
  10. Thanks for the offer Dieg. I'll try this one first and see how it goes. My new USB PC Controller card just arrived but the drivers won't load. It never goes easy eh?
  11. Gotta love a Dell :flower:
  12. Just found it. It was where it should have been doh.
  13. Sorry Rog. I am not making myself clear. I can't location the Natural Point folder in program files.
  14. I know i've been playing this game to long when... I start checking the gauges on my car to see how much ammo is left.
  15. I think you just copy it into the Profiles file when it has already been created by someone else. I think the new ones are the profiles you create yourself. I am sure Dieg777 or B16 will be along soon to set me straight.
  16. Rookie question. I am trying to add a profile (Charvel's) to my track IR file but can't find a Track IRfolder for it in Programe files. I know it is there because it opens and I can see it in add and remove programes.
  17. Welcome back m8. And yes, I hate to admit it but we did miss you I will certainly be UP for it tomorrow Wednesday so no need to play with yourself. I think your best bet is to start at 3pm EST to give the UK guys a chance to see their families before they go off to bed.
  18. I have to agree with all your points Freelancer particularily the push to talk feature on TS and the skin download. We had several people using voice activated on Sunday and it was not good. The Joint Ops guys forbid the use of voice activated because of the distraction.
  19. Good point JP. How would Microshaft know which computer you were reformatting as long as you didn't do them as often as Quazi does..
  20. I saw your post on the UBI Forum m8 and now this is the icing on the cake. Beautiful pictures. I know you are very proud of your old man. Just from the pics, you can tell he was one heck of a dude.
  21. I am sure Rog or I could walk Animal through Port Forwarding for his router on TS or even better MSN.
  22. sged m8. Please do not take this personally. It was not intended to be a criticism of your connection or your hosting. If it came across that way then I apologize. Your contribution in hosting is greatly appreciated as it is for all the other hosters. I started this thread to find out what the group thought about how we should handle the increase in numbers and the consequences of it. There has been some excellent input and suggestions from the group and I hope there will be more. As the host, you can set your own rules so if you want to include takeoffs then so be it.
  23. I am away out of my depth on this but it seems to me the host has to have a ton of bandwidth to handle 18 players. I can just imagine the packets flying backwards and forwards from 18 pilots. On the other hand a client on dial up is only concerned about his up and down to the host. If the host gets strained you get lost packets and lag. Based on my own experience, in addition to speed you need stability. My first provider had me hopping from tower to tower for several hundred miles. Each hop carries packet loss risk. My new ISP will have me going to one tower 23 kms away then into fibre optic cable.
  24. Crazy Ivan has a ultra fast High Speed connection with something like 14 Mbps down. He posted a speed test on General Discussion a couple of months ago. I hope to get a similiar connection within the month. Animal in the UK has a 10 Mbps connection and we might get him set up to do some hosting for us, right Kling?
  25. If we all stayed on the DD server but different rooms. it wouldn't be hard to see who was in each group and balance if need be. It also wouldn't be difficult to get a second host once we saw how many pilots showed up to fly. Not sure about the clique issue or if it is even a potential issue. A commercial server would solve the lag issue but wouldn't address the 4 other points I raised. I know Rog has some thoughts on a dedicated server. This may not become an issue in the future. Perhaps yesterday was just an anomaly. Just something we should keep an eye on and be prepared to adjust to.
