I find with age stiff and erect is not quite so normal any more. Now I have that confession out of the way: I have found that my MSFFB2 sticks all suffer from needing to be unplugged from time to time, I get the 'USB device has failed' message and unplugging the USB lead so far has fixed that. I guess it could just be getting into a sulk from lack of use.. IIRC I left the curves completely alone and it works well.
