  1. I am most despondent about this development - not just for Flying Legends but for the warbird scene as a whole. Legends was the antithesis of the bland "air fair" formats that have increasingly popped up as organisers try to generate more revenue for less content, but it appears this is the route IWM are branching down. We'll probably see them rebrand some time soon as the W in that acronym is "too aggressive"... If we're increasingly going to have to deal with a mentality that wants to censor the undesirable or unpalatable in our past in the name of inoffensiveness then we tread a path leading to a culture of bland conservative veneer hiding a repressed seething undercurrent of malcontent. And that historically has always gone so well... 🙄

  3. So that's that then - Legends has been my 'must do' airshow since I was in my 20's. Very sad to read this today of all days. For me, part of the point of Legends was the location - Duxford is still very much a time capsule and I for one will be sad to lose that. Jabo

  4. Noooooooo - I don't know what to say to this, I was a FOD for many years, and attended this airshow every year without fail for around 15 years. This is horrendous news. FL was/is huge - I have been to an airshow at Sywell, to be honest I am not convinced it could cope with similar sized crowds, certainly not give the same view. If it leaves the UK, that will beheartbreaking, as it will also mean that many of those flying aircraft of WW2 vintage will go with it Has there been anything mentioned about the other regular shows?

  5. I know it's something I have gone on about a lot....🙄... but I get disappointed when our guys call out enemy aircraft that have been spotted on the mini map or main map. Not many still use full icons ie. names, types, distances, but I don't see the need for them at all as long as each of us has a dot or triangle to aid in spotting similar to what the majority use now. I would love to have the '46 system where icons can be set to be visible at a distance but we don't. Still hoping.....

  6. That's it then, we go public with "Dogzford" stream it live with tickets and merchandise, invite pilots to display......worked for GT3 racing

  8. All the hotels in the area will take a big hit as well - perhaps we could now afford a meet up in the old Red Lion for our own "Flying Legends"? Sad news all the same.....

  9. There will be thousands of people like ourselves swallowing a lump and hoping for the best as we speak Chris ☹️

  10. Goodwood has the infrastructure to handle the sort of crowds FL attracts but surely this event must be an enormous cash cow for the IWM, no?

  11. Bloody hell, dam and bollocks ! What about Goodwood (RAF Westhampnett)chaps ? They host the Goodwood Circuit Revival event and the Festival of Speed so we know the numbers can be catered for regarding infrastructure. Also the airfield is regularly used by warbirds all year round ? Lord March is a good egg and an aviation buff so if the numbers add up I wonder ? No aircraft museums though ☹️ Enquiry has nothing to do with it being only 20 minutes drive from my place 🤓

  12. Thanks everyone, I will give it a try and see how I get on. With this aid in place I may even be able to return to VR, as I only stopped using it due to my spotting being so poor in VR. 🤔

  13. This makes me tremendously sad. 😢 I hope the team can find a suitable venue, preferably somewhere with an historic connection. Regardless, it'll never be the same again. Here's to the memories!

  15. Ah, finally Mick's gonna stop asking me "You coming to Duxford this year FT?" ... what a relief!

  16. Don’t want to sound too cynical but I can just imagine the sales brochures in five years time; ‘Bovis Homes welcomes you to it’s exclusive new development at Bader Way, Duxford’.

  17. It gets better, you know that electric bus they run to bus the public up and down the museum site? yeah they even ran the schedule the entire time the museum was closed. I also hate to criticise the airfield manager because he is a friend I have known for years but he really should concentrate on managing the airfield and not arse kissing his way into becoming a display pilot using his position as leverage.

  18. Obviously, if the IWM manage to put on a replacement Summer show, i'd certainly be interested. But, it won't be Legends will it?

  19. No change other than the Legends slot being filled by another Duxford hosted event. They will have to ensure there is no clash with whatever arrangements TFC make or there won't be any aircraft available. As I said the IWM have lost interest in catering to crusty old WWII enthusiasts so that may not matter to them, it will be civil stunt planes and kids everywhere.

  20. Honestly this has come as a shock, there was no rumour circulating as far as I knew. on the other hand the financial woes of the IWM have been no secret, they really are in trouble. It has also been a general feeling that the IWM being run by civil service bureaucrats have little interest in catering to WWII aviation enthusiasts and.....sorry to use this phrase....are going a bit 'woke'
