Ahh....still nothing better than the Mk1 eyeball

I know narrrthink about your mobo OT, but my Asus Extreme came with onboard 5.1 sound and a 5.1 Creative Soundblaster Audio Exteme card I had put in. I have tried both and come to the conclusion that the Creative card has better sound and more options for setting it up. I have disabled the onboard and have run with the card for months and have no intention of replacing it. If I do it will be with my backup Audigy 2 from out of my old rig........ As to the plugging in, I'm not sure it would - that would be for someone else. Another option is to plug the speakers (if you have some) into the card at the back and run Teamspeak from a set of USB headphones that plug into one of the available USB sockets on the front. This keeps game sounds and TS seperate and works fine and dandy once the correct selection has been made in the pooters sound setup. Cheerzen Sid

I have installed Mech4 a couple of times but always get no further than the first mission. I like the visuals but i can't get on with the GUI or the pilots' controls and weapon selection - I really ought to give it more time. My lad had a copy of Mech2 but I have never been one for strategic games, I like to get up close and personal.... I am SOOO used to Mech 3 and love it's ease of use, simplicity in weapon selection and use and the campaign storyline. Perhaps with the limited time I have for games other than IL2 I am sticking doggedly to 3 because of familiarity rather than taking the time to move on and learn something new. I hadn't played it for a year or so because I got fed up with Windows XP and the 'bouncing' tanks syndrome. It didn't always do it but when it did and they stayed airborne I couldn't move on - hence the reason for getting 98. I don't recall what inspired me recently but I have always gone back to Mech 3. Have you tried it online? I did once many years ago but never went back.

Lol, perhaps we ought to start a new thread dedicated to Mechs.... This installation on the 98 OS is the first time ever I felt the force feedback through the stick..great fun.

I'm trying to get a Mig3 (not Mig3U) skin that looks good but I'm having trouble seperating the layers...ie. wtf do I need to do. Obviously I need some software other than 'Paint'. I've done stuff that puts writing onto downloaded skins but I would like to achieve... An orange (dark, not bright) dirty skin overall as a 'no markings' bmp that will allow the Russian stars when 'markings on' is selected. I'm assuming that the '60' Dogz d/f ing number will appear as usual...

Friar, try this: Your calculator isn't in the right mode. Normally your calculator is in 'degree' mode, but it looks as if yours is in radians. It simple to change though. Just press the 'mode' button on the calculator (should be along the top somewhere) twice, and then this will come up: Deg

I met today with a friend who works for the ambulances in Bedfordshire and asked about the effect of the 'Bedfordshire County Show' traffic on the area around Old Warden. As the show is held at the aerodrome and is busy, he said that there is a big effect on traffic flow getting in and out - up to 25,000 people attend. Does this affect our plans?

Many, many thanks to those that bunged in to this thread, especially Rog. It is a frustrating time when a pooter goes awry but it is fantastic that there are peeps that will contribute and get things going again. Off licence still open, was it? Don't know what actually happened but a dodgy driver installation is most likely the cause. Ended up with a Windows Xp repair, went smoothly and everything is up and running again. Ok, just tried that Rog - the keyboards won't allow me to type anything and this 'New hardware wizard' keeps popping up. Might be a pointless exercise because a) I don't have a password that i recall and I disabled system restore, and man, am I regretting that now I will join you....you really are a good sport mate

I've left the computer in the part-started state for 20 mins now and the screensaver has just come on. Waggling mouse doesn't do anything so I think it is time to call 'time' on it and RMA it - I got a 3 year collection/delivery when I bought it so I will let them do the worrying instead of me. Right PITA this is....ah well, I will learn from this.....I hope!!
