  1. Looking good Pooka I can't comment much about Intel 'cos I'm a dedicated AMD 'fanboi'
  2. I've installed it and it runs very nicely on my rig. There are various options available for those people whose rigs are slower, such as default clouds and so on. It's well constructed, loads quickly (a real plus!) and can be made to run straight 4.09m if required. Recommended here B
  3. More than enough of the real thing here - left to right, Andrew, Cuthbert and Reginald (my wife) http://dangerdogz.com/forums.old.old/download/file.php?id=7130&t=1
  4. Wow, a 70 year old heating system and you never had it serviced or checked??? No shortage of optimism (and CO) in your house then? As a builder of houses for many years I'm always gob-smacked by the number of people who think the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" saying applies to household safety. Or car safety, or most forms of safety. Sorry to beat on you SkyPup, but it's a lesson that is often learned only through tragedy. You've been lucky this time, but annual safety checks are the best way to go from here on. cheers B
  5. Overclockers' own brand will be good - it's here. I bought a 24" 1920x1200 WUXGA from them last year and it's still working fine. It's a DiGiMate (DGM) and was on for £125 then. Gone up £25 since then but I guess it's Christmas! It's a very clean picture with no missing pixels and refreshes well. No ghosting or anything untoward. B
  6. AP, I'm sorry but I didn't download the Ultrapack, it was HSFX I grabbed. As I understand it there is a difference and I'm afraid it sounds as if you've found it I'll take a look at the site when I'm fully awake, see what I can see. B
  7. Did you use the Hash Calc program to verify that you have a clean download? I installed it over 4.09m without incident, and I use it for offline campaigning. I'm about 5 missions into flying a CR42 as a member of the Reggio Aeronautica in North Africa, "full real". So far so good - killed a Gladiator and about 20 ground items so far, I'm no friend of the 8th Army. Due to the file packaging and such it loads almost as fast as the 4.09 official - like about 10 times faster than AAA 1.2! Mod-wise the effects are impressive too. B
  8. I got searched for drugs once, in the street, by a uniformed copper. I had a stinking cold at the time and I had a used Kleenex in my pocket, neatly folded - waiting until I found a litter bin to chuck it into. Anyway, I left it in my pocket and showed him the rest of the items I had on me. "Is that everything?" he says, patting me down. "Everything you want to see" says I. "There's something here" says he. "You don't want to see that......", but it's too late. 30 seconds later he's deep into a ten-quid-wrap of snot. I'm glad I'm not a copper. There's something about always suspecting that changes a person.
  9. Have you tried telling them you will switch if they don't cut you a bit of slack? BT are pretty desperate for clients at the moment with the roll-out of Sky's broadband facilities. B
  10. No surprise to me Rog, given the iffy quality control that seems to plague Logitech. I installed a Logitech Z4 sounds system on my NF3 system and it worked fine for about six months. Then it short-circuited in a similar way and sent a current or pulse back through the Audigy into the MB circuitry. It killed the soundcard, one of the memory sticks, and the mobo So no more Logicrap for me! B
  11. It's an either-or situation regarding re-use of the HD. When I botched a BIOS flash and killed my Abit AX-78 (AMD 770 chipset), I was able to retrieve the situation when I installed the same HD to my new Asus MB (AMD 790FX chipset). I added a newer Radeon as well and a newer processor and made sure to install the HD to the same SATA outlet as it was on the original MB. That is to avoid any issues with the master boot tables although I'm not sure it's an issue with SATA. It certainly is with standard IDE ports - you must connect per the original setup or it will not boot. Anyway, it all booted successfully and left me on my original desktop which was a relief. Once in I was able to update everything using add/ remove programs and the driver discs for the new rig. Everything went fine and all my data was preserved. I also started with Win7 just recently. It's a great OS. B
  12. Good, glad to help. I'd appreciate your feedback on this change. B
  13. Since I made the upgrade to an Ati 4890 I've been blessed with great fps and smooth gameplay, but plagued with visual anomalies like brightly coloured artifacts in intense dogfights; and a purple hue that fills the cockpit when nav lights are on, or I fire my guns, or when my plane is parked near an airfield campfire and so on. I'd almost given up on finding a fix for this annoyance when I found a post on the big yellow forum, made by a chap called robtek, with his settings for OpenGL. I loaded them up and, bingo, no more crazy colour skeins and no more purple lighting! robtek conf.txt
  14. Thanks Jabo, I may well give you a call
  15. I loaded XP onto the new Velociraptor last week and I'm gob-smacked at how fast everything is now running. That's not really about the hard drive, much more about not having formatted for about a year I should receive Windows 7 either tomorrow or Wednesday, so I may still be absent while I get everything rigged up for 64bit and dual-boot and so on. So much to do, so little time... B
  16. @ OT :fireworks: :wav2: Nice one sir! @Jabo
  17. Nice one, Oldtimer Re: 1.2 - yeah, got it - used the Torrent - got it installed with no problems so far. A fair number of the 'corrupt' file warnings seem to relate to how the pack has been divided up. Some files seem to have been split up in the process but are, presumably, restored during the installation process. Limited flight-time on-line suggests that it works okay, but I need to do a lot more study to decide how good it is or isn't. OTOH I've been flying quite a bit of 4.09m and just loving the speed of initialisation. The late night group I fly with has a variety of PCs ranging from state-of... to pretty effin' weak: likewise connections ranging from fast cable to low-end ADSL. What we all appreciate is how quickly we are in the air from the time a Hyperlobby launch is made - even the slowest of the group is loaded very quickly compared to the 'modded' installation/initialization times. B
  18. In this case it's the UK taxpayer and a very dedicated group of RAF aircrew, BA, that keeps the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight in the air. It is indeed a worthy cause. I'm not really taking a dig at either the mods or the official sounds. My point is more about the erroneous impression that some people have about in-plane sound. B
  19. My offer of putting it all onto CD's still stands, m8. It's only data after all. In fact, I have one of those little aluminium cases with a laptop hard-drive in it - 30 gigs or so - with a USB connector. It wouldn't be any hassle to bung all the bits on there and slip it in the post to you. Let me know. B
  20. It's not quite a recreation CG, more a sort of low-level flight over the English countryside, to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the raids, or the 70th since the commencement of WW2 maybe. It's a recent clip anyway. I posted it because, for me, it points up the enormous difference that you and BA have picked up on. "It sounds like my old van" really resonated for me, if you'll pardon the pun. Did you pick up the bit, about five minutes in, when they are passed by the jet fighter? No sound at all until the plane is past them? I guess it's because I get a bit pissed at all the "sounds like a lawnmower" comments that I read on the forums that I posted the link. There is a huge difference between in-plane sound and what the ground-based observer hears - I was just pleased to find such a good example of it B
  21. I also found a very minimal number of broken files in the filefront downloads, mainly a few gauges that don't work. This did not prevent me from loading or running the game. Being a perfectionist though, I proceeded to download all over again using the Torrent system. That's done now but I am still part of the Torrent, seeding @ approximately 38 kB/s, and the rate for download is good right now, with 87 88 of us seeding. Again there are no major errors - in fact, some of the reported errors show because parts of individual files are split across .rar files: a condition that is cured on installation. I overwrote my existing 1.2 installation without any problem and it all works fine. B
  22. I must say, I have to wonder about the authenticity of some of the available views this utility provides? It seems like the seatback no longer exists, in that there's a view that allows the pilot to see the entire wing in front of him. We can all see where the cockpit is in relation to the wing.......
  23. Well I don't have any problem sympathising with you there m8, what a horror show!
