  1. A buddy of mine reports this issue too, BG, so I'll ask him if he still has it. Get back to you.... B
  2. This line made me suspicious from the very start. It's actually wrong. Flanker's response is more correct. Here's my Render OGL lines: [Render_OpenGL] TexQual=3 TexMipFilter=3 TexCompress=2 TexFlags.UseDither=0 TexFlags.UseAlpha=0 TexFlags.UseIndex=0 TexFlags.PolygonStipple=0 TexFlags.UseClampedSprites=0 TexFlags.DrawLandByTriangles=0 TexFlags.UseVertexArrays=0 TexFlags.DisableAPIExtensions=0 TexFlags.ARBMultitextureExt=1 TexFlags.TexEnvCombineExt=1 TexFlags.SecondaryColorExt=1 TexFlags.VertexArrayExt=0 TexFlags.ClipHintExt=0 TexFlags.UsePaletteExt=0 TexFlags.TexAnisotropicExt=1 TexFlags.TexCompressARBExt=1 TexFlags.TexEnvCombine4NV=0 TexFlags.TexEnvCombineDot3=1 TexFlags.DepthClampNV=0 TexFlags.SeparateSpecular=1 TexFlags.TextureShaderNV=0 HardwareShaders=1 Shadows=2 Specular=2 SpecularLight=2 DiffuseLight=2 DynamicalLights=1 MeshDetail=2 VisibilityDistance=3 Sky=2 Forest=2 LandShading=3 LandDetails=2 LandGeom=3 TexLarge=1 TexLandQual=3 TexLandLarge=1 VideoSetupId=17 Water=2 Effects=1 ForceShaders1x=0 PolygonOffsetFactor=-0.0625 PolygonOffsetUnits=-1.0 CCC settings: AA = x4 (narrow-tent x6 sampling); AAA = enabled, set at Quality; AF = x4; Catalyst A.I. = disabled; Mipmap Detail Level = High Quality: Optional: Vertical Refresh = On, unless.......; OGL/Triple Buffering = Enabled. Note: Vertical refresh is optional, I just prefer not to see 'tearing' as I look around with TrackIR. Triple Buffering is not required unless Vert. refresh is enabled. Depending on which CCC you have, select Adaptive Multi-Sample AA rather than Super-sampling. I have an FPS rate of 60 most of the time, dipping down to a minimum of 35 in intense combat. If you have a 48xx series card then there is no point in going beyond the 9.10 Catalysts (in which case you don't need the atioglxx.dll in IL2) If you have later drivers then you will get the blocky text issue ( cured by putting the atioglxx.dll in IL2) If you own a 57xx card you're screwed until Ati get off their collective arse. You should definitely report the problems using the Catalyst Crew feedback site, but don't bother hitting the AMD forum, they aren't interested. B Edit: And I should add - no flashing, no shader problems, no issues at all in UP 2.0
  3. Nice article about terms used, but I got put off a little by I started to check how much else he had misinterpreted! On the whole it's very educational - just remember not to take it all as 100% correct. B
  4. No, that's the Aleutian Islands map. It's in the UP2.0 package. Nice ain't it?
  5. Peacetime flying is my bag at the moment. The beautiful new cockpit for the F86 means I'm very rarely out of this bird.
  6. The buttons don't show up for me in HL.
  7. Hi JP Thanks for your inquiry, I am quite well but suffering from the effects of winter on my injuries. It makes me tetchy and rude, so I'm avoiding flying with crowds of people because I don't want to offend people. Re your other question - no, it wouldn't work to leave everything outside of Program Files. For the most part it is a good system; it's just that User Account Control settings prevent users from altering files in the way that we did in XP. This makes the alteration of .ini files complicated by the need to relax UAC temporarily, or drag .ini files to desktop and then replace them after adjustment, and so on. Therefore it makes sense to place certain programs outside of Program files so that they are not subject to UAC. For my part, Forgotten Battles is top of the list of programs that should be sited outside of Program Files. cheers B
  8. Tips I have picked up since installing Win7 64bit: Don't install the game to Program Files (x86) - if you have, drag it out into a new folder either in C:\ or on another partition altogether. CH software installs fine in P.F.(x86) - but the Maps folder will be created in the Library/Documents folder. If you are bringing your old maps across from another platform this is where they go. Hyperlobby should be installed outside of program files (either flavour) as it's tricky to adjust the hlpro.ini to get all the buttons working while it's there. Ati drivers are a POS at the moment. The fix is to extract the atioglxx.dll from the 9.10 Catalysts and use it to replace the atioglxx.dll file from the newer drivers. The previous advice has been to add this .dll to the IL-2 root folder - but if your main game is FB then it's a lot easier to go directly to C:\ Windows\SysWOW64\ and substitute it directly. This stops IL2 from throwing up the occasional "hs_err_pid" over the added .dll file and then crashing. More later B
  9. If it is that "little thin ass wire" that's impeding the pedal then you maybe want to watch out for the one big fault of CH pedals, namely the toe-brake function wire getting broken. Both pedals make an input when you press them down, though it's the right pedal that controls the braking in IL2. The two pedals are on separate axes and it is possible to program the left pedal to do something else. I had mine programmed to flaps at one time and flaps on a rotary is rather useful Anyway, you should be able to see that extra axis either in the CH software or Windows game controllers. If it doesn't work it's already broken. The fix is relatively easy but it requires you to open up the hardware - which will bust your warranty. I'd be tempted to return them until you get the real deal. B
  10. Are you saying us hippies are inhuman? Come around here and let me blow pot-smoke in your face before I hit you with a cool mantra, brother. You'll be seeing stars, I guarantee it. Brando
  11. 2x2Gb (4GB) OCZ Reaper (OCZ3RPR13334GK) DDR3 PC3 10666. A matched pair of almost-new sticks of fast DDR 3 RAM suitable for AMD's AM3 motherboards, capable of running high speeds with tight timings . I upgraded to PC3 12800 to take advantage of my mobo's capabilities. I want £70 for them. They are in the original packaging and have a lifetime warranty. B
  12. I wonder if this isn't an OS-related issue? I was experiencing the occasional crash running/hosting co-ops since I got my new rig, but since I started using the 00_6DOF_Tracker_4GbVersion.exe I haven't experienced any of these problems. I'm using Windows 7 64bit. (Obviously this doesn't work with 32bit and/or less than 4Gb RAM) I don't use S3TC either - I use maxed-out Perfect settings - even on the CanonUK map or Korea. I ascribe my success to the Tracker.exe. B
  13. The "hype" is media-driven and is un-helpful in the way that it sets up the issue for the kind of polarisation that we see demonstrated. We've even seen this one transformed into a politico-religious issue! No doubt someone will announce that it's a result of liberal thinking among pro-Darwinian scientists next Blame the news media for stirring the pot in the constant search for copy, but don't be fooled into thinking that influenza isn't dangerous just because the death toll was relatively light. The truth, as Cuda has sadly demonstrated, is that we are not touched by the grief of death unless it is of someone we know. It's alright until it isn't, simple as that. Anyone who has been touched by loss knows that: the rest will eventually find out one day. None of it is a reason to dismiss the information given out by the W.H.O. We'd all be laughing on the other side of our face if the virus had mutated into something more virulent. B
  14. Substitute surgical spirit for whiskey and call it an Ambulance No, wait, that should be "call an ambulance!"
  15. It's all about grades of plastic, isn't it, and how long the various types endure? I'm sitting here with a 6-year old set of CH pedals under my feet and they still function as well as new. They don't look very exciting but they are sure as hell tough! I recently took in a set of CH for renovation (CS, PT, PP) and they are 12 years young. I stripped all three controllers and found I needed to solder one wire and replace one spring. Total cost was £2.00, mostly postage. None of the potentiometers was at all flakey, and once I had removed all traces of house-dust, fag-ash and coffee, everything calibrates and runs like silk. I'll wait to see when the G940 passes the 5 year test - by which time my CH gear will be in its eleventh, or maybe less if my suspicions are correct. Sorry FT, for all the CH touting It just reveals my miserliness about spending out on flightgear B
  16. I must say, I'm glad that I already have a HOTAS after seeing these pictures. Ball-bearings or no, this stuff looks to have some inherent weaknesses in the construction.
  17. Me, I'll stick with my modified CH HOTAS - rapidly approaching its seventh year of constant use with no problems to report. Apart from the lack of force-feedback I can't really find anything bad to say about it. It could use a few more rotary controls or sliders, but there a ways of getting around that. It is run by the finest software ever written for flightgear and is supported through an excellent web-site, the CH-Hangar. The software writer, Bob Church, is usually available to give help with scripting and trouble-shooting, and there are loads of folk who can help with maps and guides. There is even a guide on how to modernise the old CH FX (force-feedback) if you are lucky enough to find one. B
  18. Not quite the same old question... The G940 is made by Logitech, not CH, and it's a 3 part HOTAS. It's getting mixed reviews out in the simming world, especially regarding the force-feedback and the dead-zone characteristics. I'd do some careful research before jumping into this one. B
  19. Hell no, that's a very neat and practised job. It's just a slice of Beetle-owning life
  20. I dunno. For a four-letter word starting with a "t" and ending with a "d" I would settle for todd quite happily B
  21. What Snacko said is the quickest way. If you miss it on entering HL, do the disconnect routine and then right click on the Connect button bar. That'll bring up the search box. B
  22. Well I asked....but she just laughed (as nurses will) and said "Oh dear, not another monk looking to get his bell-tower repointed? Tell him I only do enemas these days, bloody large ones!" I'm still looking through my copy of "International Cocktails for the Discerning Drunkard" but I can find no mention of Enemas, large or otherwise. I tried anyway. B
