    Remove memory, clear CMOS?

CMOS battery is out of the computer (has been since last night) so I’ll replace it and try again with the new PSU tonight

  2. No blame attached to you Mick in any case. It could be as simple as the card being not completely installed in the slot causing a short across two connectors. Unfortunately there’s no way I can work out where the problem lies on the board and no way I have to fix it even if I could find the fault. I have a new PSU arriving today and if that doesn’t correct the problem then I’m looking at a replacement mobo.

  3. Very possible right now that the 970 has blown up my mobo. Having plugged the minimum hardware back in, even jumpering the power switch leads doesn’t switch the thing on

  4. Well, this sucks. Looks like it’s not the PSU. Managed to work out which wires to short and managed to turn the PSU on. When checking the voltages again, the 12v is there

  5. No idea I’m afraid Mick, I think I have a dead PSU though. I’ve got the PSU on my bench at the moment and there appears to be no 12v rail as I can find the 3.3v and 5v outputs but neither of the 12v outputs (there should be one at +12 and another at -12. There’s no additional power switch other than the one on the back. What do you chaps think?

On/Off switch + cable that connects to the motherboard still okay?

I’ve swapped out the power cable with a known good one, swapped to a known good power outlet and unplugged/replugged the mobo connector

  7. Sooo, this probably isn’t so good. I received my spare GPU back from Painless this morning and thought I’d check it before putting it away again. Took out the 980, plugged the 970 in, reconnected the cables and…nothing. No lights, no fans, no POST - nothing. Unplugged the 970 and put the 980 back in…still nothing. Commencing diagnostics I swapped out the power cord - nothing. Unplugged everything that was unnecessary. Still nothing.

Sooo what’s next? PSU? Board? CPU?

    Thoughts?

If an evening slot were to open up where good attendance could be hoped for, I have been working on a Syn_Vander generated mission that is a dog fight where the objective was ground attack, flown from the German side against AI using 110's and 109 (I could add other planes if requested) I have also added in extra scenarios once the AI air defence has been despatched to attack trains and road convoys.

Whilst all that is going on I have added in a German Tank scenario attacking ground units which could use air support.

I was looking for a suitable chance to suggest it, so perhaps this is the time?

My idea was to pull all the "Tankies" and "Jockies" together for a one off event? Its a dogfight so you could swap between the two if you wanted. Pilots could have a go at multi-crewing a tank as well with other Dogz (its what we mainly do on a Saturday and is a lot of fun). It also has an air start position which has to be activated by the Tanks taking an objective, the air field will have repair and re-arm if you want to try to keep the same air frame.

I can start a separate thread if preferred so as not to clutter this one?

Interesting idea Col, I agree that a separate thread would be in order.

Gents, we had another AAR failure last night; as such the campaign has not progressed.

Obviously there are some deeper issues with PWCG than we first suspected. I will log these failures with Pat but cannot guarantee we will have a fix prior to the next scheduled event (Tuesday 17th August) . I doubt you would want to ground-hog day it again, so should we not have a solution by then we have a couple of options.

    1. Run as conventionla co-op eve

    2. Try out the Iconic Mission Generator built into PWCG; essentially this generates a one-off, non-campaign mission. Flown from Engine Cold to landing as a normal PWCG mission.

    Let me know your thoughts.

Either option is fine by me Tom, would Col's idea above give you (and Pat) some extra breathing space to try and sort out the problems? We did have an issue with an overlength pilot name before - could this be something similar?

  9. You'll probably find that they can't source the 3080ti reliably at the moment but a 3070 will have good residuals if you can get a 3080 further down the line. My only concern would be that H60 Hydro, given that it only has a single 120mm rad, I'm not sure how it will handle an 11900K especially if you plan to overclock it. Be careful, the 2018 version they are speccing here has been replaced in the last couple of years by an uprated h60 with a different rad design and better thermal characteristics

It would likely be OK, but if the budget allows I'd probably be considering the H80i or H100i instead.

Personally I don't like PCS, I've found their customer service to be extremely poor in the past and the parts they use for warranty repairs substandard. I know some of the guys here have used them and like them but I would steer well clear. You pays your money and you takes your choice I guess.

  10. I wouldn't resort to installing a beta version of Windows 11 in the hope it'll perform some miracle - if it does fix it you'll be no nearer understanding the problem and if it doesn't you'll be back to square one - and who's to say it's not a different problem...

Happy to set up a video call/teamviewer session if you want to Reggie,

  11. Sooo, having downloaded the checker app and determined that my PC is not suitable for windows 10, I rebooted and went for a fettle in the BIOS. Eventually I found the TPM setting buried down in the Advanced section.

    IMG_2009.JPG

If you read the blurb that goes with this, you find that this is just intel's term for TPM 2.0. so I enabled that, checked that secure boot was enabled (it was) and then rebooted. The machine took a few seconds longer to boot up the first time but returned to normal after that.

    Re-ran the checker and

The point here is that most recent motherboards will have this in one form or other, so there should be little or no requirement to go out buying new kit for this. Assuming you may be in a position where you are running older hardware that does not support TPM, there are little plug in modules available which will provide that functionality too - According to Scan, these seem to be retailing for less than £20, but you do need to ensure that you buy the correct one. Therefore, it's unlikely you'll be in a position where a new PC is required to run 11 - and there's nothing wrong with staying with 10 (or 7 Dave😉)

It's also worth noting that we're already seeing signs of an uptick in sales of TPM modules as scalpers look to cash in on those desperate to upgrade aging rigs.
