Possible Change To DangerDogz Flying Schedule - Please Vote
xTbonex replied to Friar's topic in Jim's Place
I need a tour of it really, I loaded it up and theres a lot to take in, plus I would need to test it on VR, but not before mapping it all out, as I understand its a bit more involved than GBS with key binds etc. also is it better to get the game direct or is the Steam version adequate? I know GBS is not cross compatible with Steam/or direct. -
Possible Change To DangerDogz Flying Schedule - Please Vote

Im a bit reticent still about the whole DCS thing, as rightly or wrongly I have the impresson that it is a bit of a money pit. (regardless how good it is) in any case, modern jets and choppers hold no interest for me at all. I'd be interested in anything Korean War, possibly up to Vietnam and those that predate though. I just dont have a lot of cash to spare atm, and defintiely void of having much time as I explained earlier. 😕 Looking at a lot of the DLC, they are about £40 each... I installed it and never loaded it up. The idea does intrigue me though. -
Possible Change To DangerDogz Flying Schedule - Please Vote
xTbonex replied to Friar's topic in Jim's Place
Hi Folks, Got your email, about schedules etc, and thought I would pop on and say Hi! I wont vote as it doesnt seem approriate since I havent been around for quite a while, reason being, Sunday nights are very difficult, and Tuesdays are impossible for me now due to kids activities, and other crap. I hope to fly with you when I can as I do still play GBS, Although my schedule is unchanged for the time being., Thursdays however I could potentially do depending on start time if that was a chosen night for GBS. Anyway, needless to say, I hope you are all well. T. -
Same, mine is also missing. I logged into expect to read an angry reply at my request to add yet more planes the DF server. lol.

New P-38/Tiffie Campaign Debrief Thread
xTbonex replied to DD_Fenrir's topic in IL-2 Sturmovik: Great Battles Series
KIA. 😆 Its actually the first time i've been killed in combat in the P38. My streak has ended. lol -
OK I appear to have solved the issue. after several un-necessary reinstalls and a lot of searching, I appear to have stumbled across the fault by accident. so it may have been this or a combination of things I had setup that it didnt like. My IL2 game is on steam. Just for the record. I reset and re-installed Oculus Tray tool, and made sure ASW was 'off', (supersampling on OTT is PC dependent, but I have that set to 1.5 in any case) still wasnt working, adjusting IL2 settings provided a few extra frames on its own by configuring settings, but not enough for smooth play. Seeing as there are many ways to boot a VR/VR supported game, and Oculus software relies on Steam Vr also. I started experimenting with different boot up methods. instead of booting through Oculus and allowing that to open steam, I loaded steam and Steam VR, and booted it IL2 through Steam VR. instead of relying on Oculus to start the process. Seems Oculus software failed to load Steam VR correctly somehow (Just for IL2, all my other games and apps work fine booting through Oculus), my PC appears to have been treating IL2 as a background task. even though in task manager, it was on the primary list. I have reset all my Steam VR settings to default, and am using OTT now to configure the sampling and graphics., so VR resolution in Steam is just set to 100% even though my PC can totally handle more. So the process I followed was: Open OTT (Tray Tool) Open Oculus Boot up Steam VR in Oculus Load IL2. Its a faff, but that process appears to be working. happy 80FPS all day today... I have also managed to max out the settings in IL2 as well, and it still runs 80fps, so its 100% a software issue and not hardware. However, and I never fully understood this, but in the IL2 settings I am now using MSAA, instead of FSAA.

New P-38/Tiffie Campaign Debrief Thread
xTbonex replied to DD_Fenrir's topic in IL-2 Sturmovik: Great Battles Series
I claim 3 ground kills, 2x Howitzer, 1 Truck. ( I believe) may have all been Howies though, I was too excited to be back to notice, lol. -
its not so much the time slots, you cant beat sunday evening for availability usually, but alas, thats also the most popular day for family gatherings., things are a little unpredictable. Tuesdays were always difficult for me, due to my job as are any week night to commit to regularly. for my part at least i hadnt planned to be away so long as I really enjoyed the last sessions I attended, I just fell off and then got distracted by other things. and after all this, I have still only decorated half the house. lol. been here a year now. but hey ho, marathon, not a sprint...
-
Oh yes... one other thing, as BluBear rightly points out, having been under house arrest for 2 years pretty much, I have been catching up on the things I couldnt do, but with 2 kids im obliged to also encourage them to do the same, as they wont choose to do this by themselves. and thats a massive disruptor for me. as its usually the weekends that take the beating.
-
HI Folks, sorry for being away so long... I had pretty much lost track of time, I only went out for the papers. I sort of left for a spell and never found my way back. And here come the excuses... Like BadAim says above, I'd love to fly more, but times of the meets dont always work with everyday life. having 2 kids is not helping, plus theres a whole list of other things that tend to get in the way. as is normal with life I guess. Another thing getting in thw way is my eldest son, who is now of an age where PC is cooler than Xbox, so I have to fight him off my comp when he wants to play Banner Lord 2 for 17 hours at a stretch, he doesnt have his own rig and I cant afford to buy him one atm, I was going to get myself a new rig and donate this one to him, but thats sadly been mothballed thanks to Herr Putin, and BOJO De Pfeffel... That said I have had urges to do some flying, but I havent got to a point where I set up the VR and actually do it. I too also prefer the more casual co-op missions to event or campaign flying. not interested so much in tanks, its 100% flying for me. The campaigns, while fun, are perhaps a bit too long winded for me. Both in mission length and campaign length. and for a creature who likes flying a variety of planes, being stuck on one can get a bit tedious. There are plus sides, having taken part in the P38 campaign for a spell, it taught me how to really fly the machine, and it wasnt necesarily one I would pick from the list if I was casually flying. I would definitely like to learn to fly some of the other planes better... there are some I love but havent quite mastered, and they arent necesarily all of the glamourous ones... Besides this, the campaign nights can be a bit 'too' serious. and thats a bit of a buzz kill at times. even if my focus generally is at a higher level. I'd like to do more campaigns, but maybe with a slightly different format, perhaps on a shorter campaign, that allows us to fly more aircraft, learn them, have some fun then move on to the next. I know its a difficult one to cater for, but I far prefer flying the early/mid war planes as well, whereas a lot of guys here like the later war gear. I just find the early and mid war planes are a bit more hands on, and thats fun for me. and also dare I say, I also love WW1 as well, which I've never got to fly with the dogz, well not entirely true, but only for a few minutes before being raped by an FW190 A4. lol The Co-op nights, I have no complaints about. the missions are good and I've had fun times taking part in them. and realistically if the session is too long I have the opportunity to leave earlier, Not that I ever have. Just a small note though, on the warmup DF server, it would be nice to have most if not all planes unlocked, as some that I own as DLC are often excluded such as the Macchi Fulgore and Yak 9. I know its done in the interest of 'theme' for whatever the map is, but I dont think thats entirely necesarry in a casual DF scenario. I will pop on on Sunday evening, and have a fly, dont mind what we do... I guess a large part of this for me is getting the buzz and the addication back. just to wrap up, I know how much work goes in behind the scenes, to create events, missions and campaigns, and to cater for as many people as possible, and I also know thats a nearly impossible task. So I tip my hat to those of you that take on this burden. My suggestions above are in no way intended to cause offence to those who create and run this fabulous club. Tbone.

yes thats pretty much what Ive managed to do, I figured if I load the game through Steam with VR support Open composite bypasses steam VR for me. However, fo some reason, if I boot from the Oculus app, it doesnt work... so I guess this is going to be about a boot up process. but I was getting a good 80fps last night, which is the best i've ever had it running, so I have been able to dial up some of the graphics settings as well and still have good performance. -

OK well the good news is Im winning! I have managed to remap all my keys today, and got the game running as smooth as a babys bottom. but its taken a few hours of tinkering and reloading the game, which was frustrating. So... I just need a little help with the mods and also CHSkins is no longer working. so need a hand with that too. With any luck I can do some flying soon., going to have a quick session the blast off some of the cobwebs. -

xTbonex replied to xTbonex's topic in IL-2 Sturmovik: Great Battles Series
yeah once I have figureed out how to install them I can do that easu enough. I used to also have the pilots notes mod, which i found quite handy as I have a lot of planes and I use nearly all of them. its easier than trying to remember all the takeoff, cruise and landing speeds. My tiny brain can only process so much, and a large portion of that processing power goes straight down into my pants. lol -

xTbonex replied to xTbonex's topic in IL-2 Sturmovik: Great Battles Series
yeah thats an option, but I have pretty much all of the collector planes and also WW1, as I like flying those on my own time. its a lot of wedge. 😕 I bought BoS before I considered what might be required if im Honest, in hindsight I would have done it a bit different. Steam VR is a necesarry evil, and its not that that breaks it, its the steam app that tanks the FPS as the VR is a tray setting. plus you also have to have Oculus open as well. its just the final straw that breaks the camels back, but theres no work around as IL2 is based on an old game engine, that pushes even high end rigs to the limit on VR. I did have it working so that Open Composite used to bypass Steam, but I can no longer access the linked account if I do bypass Steam. so they must have changed something with one of the updates. -

yeah Ive done a re-install, its fixed the joystick issue, but I need to remap everything which is going to take a while. Still however doesnt fix the issue of having to run IL2 through Steam and Steam VR, as currently thats the only way i can get the accounts to link to access content. Im going to need to do all the research again around open composite and settings for best performance on VR, which is a pain, and I will also need a little help installing the correct mods that you guys are using. but I will fix the mapping and FPS issues first and worry about mods later. i will try to chip away at it, but I doubt it will be ready/playable by tomorrow. I may make a cameo appearance Tuesday if sorted, then Im away from Christmas. so wont be back until new year. -

xTbonex replied to xTbonex's topic in IL-2 Sturmovik: Great Battles Series
I deleted it and let the game generate a new file. both devices are listed in the file. but it didnt work. all these issues are looking more and more likely pointing to a complete re-install. cant wait to waste my entire weekend trying to fix this. I cant even remember how to install the mods etc. -

sort of feels like the following options may be easier... Repeatedly headbutting a brick wall. Sitting in a corner rocking backwards and forwards with 2 pencils stuck up my nostrils Taking up Knitting. Or just going to work every day. 😭 -
Hey Folks, I know its been a while, and this year has been totally chaotic for me. Now that moving is well and truly done, and I have builders and other people out of my hair... (yes its really taken 6 months to sort all this crap out...) I was planning on coming back to fly with you again, however... Theres been a few updates since I last played, and thats where my issues are only just beginning. first off I have tried to verify my files through steam, and its made no difference to anything. I cant link my IL2 and Steam accounts. meaning if I load up through Open Composite for my VR, I am asked to sign in every time I load the game, and when I sign in, I have no aircraft available to fly, because all of my DLC and purchases are on steam. If I load through Steam, my FPS tanks to about 26fps, which renders the game basically unplayable. and thats after closing every conceivable program down through the task manager. to add to the agony, IL2 no longer recognises half of my input gear. the throttle is working but the joystick is not. I installed the latest drivers and calibration software and this has now happened., the stick is working absolutely fine on all my other games, just not IL2. I really only want to do a re-install as an absolute last resort. as although I have backed up my key mappings, I would need to run through all of the graphics settings getting the game back up to a decent enough FPS, as well as install all the mods and skins etc. In any case I will be buying a new PC in the New year and I will have to do a fresh install for that so I dont want to be doing it twice over. Hoipefully the new rig will afford me more options when it comes to performance. any of you guys available to give me a little help trouble shooting at some point? Tbone...
-
Ive used PCS twice before and havent had any issue with them. but I will shop around for a few comparable quotes, I tend to use them to benchmark the price and specs tbh., because their quoting tools are quite good. I have built my own rigs in the past, so may do so when it comes to the crunch. as its a big cost saving and I can shop around for parts and get the cheapest prices., plus no build cost other than sweat, bad language and a weekend of my time to put it all together. I could add a bigger box to allow a couple of additional 120mm fans, I did have my concerns also about overheating. but tbh, i probably wouldnt overclock, firstly I dont know how, and secondly I dont know how. lol the difference in price between the RTX3080 Ti and the next level up, 12Gb is over £500 so thats going to put the 12Gb out of my price range. im already exceeding budget by £500, but thats an acceptable cost and I would take that on the chin. we are alrwady in 'lies to the missus' terrirtory. Wont be buying just yet anyway, as I still have furniture to buy, so it will depend on whats left over, but I have massively over budgetted for that anyway. so there should be a few shekyls left for a new rig.
-
I dont really know much about AMD chipsets, what would be a good comparable CPU to the i9? how many cores etc, they range from 6 to 16 core.... A quick google search says the Ryzen 5950 16x core scores best for single core performance.
-
thanks guys, so the AMD tend to get better single core performance, thats something I didnt know. a 750W power supply cant do any harm and wont cost a lot more. so I will bump that up for sure. the GPUs at PC specialist they didnt actually list an RTX 3080Ti. it should hopefully be in budget though, so I may as well build it up to the best it can be, Id hope this will see me for another 10 years. and I will just update parts as and when needed.

HI Guys, Can i ask the IT Boffins in the club to take alook at this spec for me? Im looking into buying a new rig, as my son is now of age and he needs a pc for school and also some gaming no doubt., so I was going to donate my current rig to him, and upgrade myself in the process. Ive buit this spec with VR in mind, especially IL2, and also top end and CPU/GPU heavy games, such as Warhammer total war, etc... but i also need to do a lot of high end graphics, photo editing, and film editing work for my job. just want to know if its up to scratch to get decent FPS on IL2 specifically. Thanks in Advance. TBone. 2147891.pdf
