  1. You can really see the difference in your above vids. The second one looks like my old 1.5.8. Great it worked for you!

I did rename both the metashaders and fxo  first. First launch  the game tried to rebuild them during the next reboot but I got an error message about the compiler failing during the rebuild and crashed to desktop. So I renamed them to original and all was okay except I was back to original look. So I just took a shot at turning off Deferred Sharers and got rid of 90% of the lime green look. Of course, now I can't control gamma in game.

What I am going to try next is renaming one file at a time (metashaders then fxo) with a test between to see if I get the same compiler error. Not smart enuff to figure how much Steam is gumming up the works but it does make me wish I had got DCS straight from ED. If I knew I could get away with it and I wouldn't lose my P51, I would get DCS from ED directly and overwrite the Steam version. But that's just too much "geeking" and not enuff flying ?!

BoX, Blitz and 1946 are fine although I can't get Reshade to work on anything I got off Steam. Thank goodness I got BoX direct from 777. No biggie!

All this reminds me of another time in my early life crunching assembler code/machine code on ancient mainframes, punching cards, making tapes, compiling  the code, running a test, wash, rinse, repeat, until the result complied with what my bosses wanted ?!

  2. Well between tweaking and geeking on my monitor settings, using suggestions from all in this thread and others, I have the lime green down to an acceptable minimum. The biggest thing that helped the overall "feel" of the colors was turning off "Deferred Shaders" in game.  Go figure, I guess on or off is a crap shoot depending on too many variables for me to keep up with.  I need to work on the gamma a twitch to brighten up the cockpit without screwing other stuff up, but the game is playable (visually) now. I have never had a problem with frame rates and I do get a smidge of stuttering but nothing that really bothers me at this point. I haven't ventured into multiplayer so I have no idea what awaits me there.  So whenever ED decides to run a sale again, I can start buying some other maps and AC.

Only thing I could not get to take is Reshade.  Guess I am picking the wrong launcher (Run) from the DCS folder, but since this is a Steam App for me, I don't see anything else.  No biggie as I have it working for IL2 BoX and Blitz and don't really need it for HSFX.

    Thanks again all.

Hey Gypsy. Can you post a screenshot so we can better see what your looking at? I have my suspicions but don't want to send you on a wild goose chase changing settings etc if I'm wrong.

Nevermind. It is my monitor settings. A bit back I changed a couple of settings and forgot about them.  The "mint(ish)" green shows up in all games and other than game screens with those changed settings.  I went back to box stock (default) on the monitor and tweaked setting in DCS and IL2 and toned down the colors a bit. At least at a level where I am not distracted (easily done nowadays).  If I want true colors I am going to have to spend the money and get a high refresh rate IPS panel or a VA panel.  I like my high frame rates and pretty smooth operation with the 144mhz. 1ms screen so unless a rich uncle (and I have outlived most of them) leaves me a bundle-o-cash, I will do just fine with what I have.

    Thanks for the offer...

  4. Installed and tested. Works ok but I am not shot in the ass with color graphics. Greens seem to have a "minty" flavor to them. I running most things on medium to high,  clocking FPSs in 100-150s, but the overall color of the terrain just looks strange. Cockpit and my P51 look okyt. So I am looking for suggestions/settings to get back to the 1.5.8 look like I had. Now I know my TN  panel ain't gonna get the best color rendition but the mint green in weird looking to me. Monitor is an ASUS VG248QE 144hrz I ms grey to grey running thru the displayport.  Rest of my system specs are in my signature line. Thanks.

  5. Downloaded file, ran the install and all seems to work.  Don't see the Lancaster tho. Still fumbling with keymapping. Too many variations of the same theme for my old mind to get wrapped around but I will figure it out (eventually)

Well, later today, around 8 PM-ish BST, we will have the regular 1946HSFX session.

Not sure if you are still up to that version, but you could join in ...

(If your IL2 1946 HSFX7 need some tuning, to get it 'compatible' with the group mod-wise, then you can have a look at this thread: Installing Hsfx 7 - The Easy Way )

I'll check my version (Got it from T_O_A_D awhile back) and see what I have. Thanks.

On Edit: Just checked and my version of 1946 is 4.12.2m HSFX7.0.3 so I guess I am up to date.

  7. Thanks one and all! I will wear the DD tag with honour (did I just do that) and promise to only embarrass you on special occasions ?!

Since I am retired, I can be zooming around the virtual skies most any time of day...just not before 0900 CST as I don't properly function before at least two cups of coffee.

  8. Well T_O_A_D said I should start a "New topic" to introduce myself if I wanted to volunteer for service in DD. So here goes. Following the tried and true "copy & paste" method:

What brought you here to apply for membership of the DangerDogz Squadron? Please provide some details of how you came to know of us, and what is is about us that makes you want to become a member.

A: Whilst I enjoy busting around the virtual skies chasing bots (AI), occasional human contact (thirst for blood?) has me missing the tight knit comeradery....who am I kidding, I like to sling the bull as much as the next person. Having flown a few times with your USA contingent has proven interesting and enlightening. And if you must blame someone for introducing me to DD, it's all T_O_A_D`s fault.

Can you provide names of existing members who can vouch for you? Please provide name(s) of existing members who would be willing to vouch for you, not a requirement though!

A: T_O_A_D. I have met (On TS) AP, Perfesser, Spaulding and others my piss poor memory for names I have drawn a blank on.

Tell us a little about yourself, humour encouraged :D

A: I am 73y/o, retired USAF (24yrs), retired Federal court clerk (23yrs). Living and dying in TX (graveyard humor as I was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis in in 2016 - an incurable lung disease and given 3 to XX years to live..I refuse to fill in the XX, I just keep turning up my oxygen flow, yelling at the neighbor's cat, building Pcs, pre ordering things that may take years to come around, etc.). I have ridden motorcycles most of my life, on a 3 wheeler now, am a patch holder with a motorcycle club (Gypsy MC). In an earlier life, I was a flight sim instructor in Undergraduate  Pilot Training utilizing Link T-38 Sims. Taught instrument flying and navigation from 1964 to 1975. I could go on but the snoring is getting loud out there!

PS: I started in PC sims with the original IL2 in the 2004-5  (met T_O_A_D when we were both flying with TUSA) and "flew" until I retired in 2010 and went full time living in an RV for 4 years. Decided last year to build me a gaming PC (adult LEGO complexity), gotnhooked on YouTube vids of IL2 antics and the rest is (recent) history.

    Do you have TeamSpeak 3?

    A: Yes

What version of IL2 do you have?

A: BoS, BoM, BoK and preordered BoBp. 1946 HSFX (but rarely fly it now). BoB Blitz.

What other simulators or games do you enjoy?

A: DCS but only have the P51D as of now. Waiting on sales to get maps, F86 and F5

    Do you like sheep?

    A: With or without wool?

Guess that's about it unless y'all have more sensitive questions you would rather not put down in writing ?.

You mentioned on FB that you were running an MSI gaming app. Try a restart and launch the game without running the app and see if that resolves the problem.

You may have hit the nail on the head.  Shut down the gaming app and the game launched and seems to be ok.. tried running the gaming app again and then restarting from the launcher and game crashed. I was only using it for the slight overclock I can get from it on my video card.. doesn't seem to make that much of difference without it...

    Thanks so much.

  11. Thanks Jabo,

Found the Event Viewer.  Found every instance of the crash and can find no variables changing.. always the same error

  12. Hey folks,

First long post and wouldn't you know it's about a problem.

Since the 3.001 update, game CTD every time I try to start a "mission" whether it be quick, career, etc. Offline or online makes no difference.  Have deleted and re-downloaded the updates folder numerous times.  Just completed an 18hr ordeal of uninstalling and downloading the entire game and it worked once.  After it worked the one time, I shut my PC down, came back and relaunched everything as usual, trackIR, MSI gaming app, fan controller, etc. Although I bought and downloaded from the IL2 site, Steam is running in the background, always has been. On game relaunch, it crashes to desktop either at the login screen (rare) or when I try to start after selecting any mission.  Always the same error about something going wrong (their words) and reporting it to Microsoft and then given no option except to shut the game down.  Not sure where to go from here except to abandon this game. I wanted to get Kuban, but if I can't get Stalingrad to work, not sure that would be wise.  CLoD works fine, DCS works fine.  PC is a home built (by me) of fairly new origin and everything checks good.  I have cleaned up all SSDs and done what I can to keep a fairly clean PC.  I am on a 50mb fiber connection hard wired to the router.

Looking for ideas on where to go from here in my search to make this work. Thanks.
