  1. Oops, yah, not 300k. It freed up about 30% of my memory. I didn't have much, and it was almost all being used and also a big swap file.
  2. When I got my 26" monitor I had the same problem BG. I was actually getting headaches after about 30 mins of use. But I did something that fixed it. I did not reduce my screen resolution at all. I still run it at the recommened 1920x1200. I can't remember exactly, but here are my other settings in Win7: Right-Click on Desktop, select 'Personalize', and in the bottom/left of the window, click on 'Display Settings'. Mine is set to: 'Smaller - 100%', but you can increase this setting. On the Top/Left of this screen click on Adjust Clear Type Text. I have that checked. Click 'Next' and follow the wizard to set this up. That's all I can find right now..
  3. When I was using FSAutoStart on my old rig, I checked my free memory using Task Manager before running it and then after. I think it freed up about 300k of memory, and I only had 1 gig, so that made a difference.
  4. I highly recommend a reformat if you have never done one. Your pc will obviously run as good as the day you purchased it. And then update all of your drivers for video and such. Of course you want to back your personal stuff first. Many pcs come with a System Restore disk, that reformats the drive and puts everything back on it like the day you bought it. If it doesn't have that, then you have to do it all yourself. Boot from your Windows CD and select the option to format and install. Then install all of your programs. FSAutoStart has been replaced with a newer version called AlacrityPC. You can get it here. There is also a program called GameBooster that does kind of the same thing. Check it out here. Basically, these programs shutdown unnecessary programs and services, then you play your game. After you are finished playing your game you can have them restart (or not) those programs and services. At least that's how AlacrityPC works. I'm not sure about GameBooster. I don't use those programs since I upgraded so I am not sure.
  5. I think you are probably correct CG. But maybe someone who is more up on hardware will post. Have you ever reformatted your hard drive and reinstalled everything in the past two years? Have you ran disk defrag lately? Both of these things help a lot I think. Also, running something like FSAutoStart to shut down unwanted programs/processes before you game helps as well. I did all of these things with my old Dell when it was getting on 3+ years old and it helped a lot till I build my current pc.
  6. Is this guy skilled or just lucky? I say both. Mostly Lucky.. I suggest you watch this fullscreen .
  7. Good Idea Roger! Check out this radio show caller. This is so stupid it is scary people like this can vote. And the Left is going to make sure that they do.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jg0pDPK56Ys

  13. Yea, and there are two zip ties next to the vice grips. The only thing he is missing is the duct tape. I don't think it will fly without it.

  15. That is awesome Troop! I noticed that the Date Completed and Date Accepted were blank on the two plaques on the right. I wonder why that is.
  16. What a wasted pc for just faxing stuff. But any video card will suffice for that. You should get her to run that pc scoring app we ran a few months ago and see what she gets...
  17. What is the widow going to do with the rest of the computer after she sells the vid card? Seems strange that she would part it out and not sell it all?
  18. Look like we have to register to access that link Todd.

  21. Thanks Brando. I'm going to think about this one for a while. I don't think it is worth changing this just so I can hotswap one external drive. I can alway use Firewire if I want to do that I guess. I have also read some stories about changing this to AHCI and it slowing down some computers. I think it will make all SATA drives have the Eject option, and I read one story where this guy's daughter would always select Eject from the right-click menu to eject a cd out of the SATA CD drive. Ouch... Anyhow, thanks for the replies...
  22. I have this for that drive: When I try to uncheck the first option it gives an error saying I cannot do that for this drive. I finally got a reply from a LaCie support person who may know what they are talking about. The first two had absolutly no clue and were just making things up. Their replies were actually funny for how stupid they were. This support guy said that I need to set my SATA confi to AHCI in my MB Bios. It was currently set to PCI I think. But setting it to that caused Windows not to load, so I set it back. I need to do some reading about this option. I am not sure if I can change this after I have installed Windows..... Argg.. So far, I just found this: There does appear to be a workaround, but it's probably not worth it....
  23. Where are the World Clocks? I was looking for them the other day and could not find them. I thought there would be a link in the toolbar at the top or something....
