  1. Thanks for your reply... I have to be honest this is where my lack of knowledge shows blink.gif No idea what eyefinity is, but assume from your post multiple monitors with one card.. I though you can only run multiple monitors in MS flight simulator?? How would you set the monitors up?? what would be displayed on each screen?? Sorry for all the questions, but really intrigued!

I would argue that the HD6950 2gb is the best bang for the buck, faster than the GTX560ti and with twice the memory. Plus you can run 3 monitors in eyefinity mode without the need for a second card. But that is just me ;)

    Hey Snacko!!

Yes made it :) Bloody happy!!

Welcome Flyboy, I see you made it!! :thumbsu:

Hi and thanks for your reply!!

I was wondering if 650w is enough, but as you say future proofing is never a bad idea.. How about an 800W?? Or should I go for 1000w??

Thanks for your comment on the case.. I have read about graphics card sizes being on the increase.. Can you suggest any cases? Appreciate your help!

Hello Flyboy, welcome here. Here's my (un)reliable opinion. As others have said, do you really need a dedicated soundcard these days? I'd definitely save on the sound card and put it towards the most expensive graphics card you can afford. You're gonna need something a bit better than a gtx550 to make the most of the rest of your system. I'd also go for a slightly bigger power supply to be a bit more future proof and if you've got the room I'd go for a full size case rather than a midi-tower. Better for cooling and graphics cards seem to be getting bigger and bigger these days.

Oh yeah, did you know Rise of Flight is a freebee? :thumbsu:

  2. thanks for the advice :) It seems that everybody prefers the GTX 560 Ti, so will most probably go this route!!

I really appreciate the advise!! You guys have just saved me about £100 by not buying the wrong bloody card lol

I agree with Propnut, defiantly worth the extra to get a GTX560Ti, imo the best bang for buck card out there at the moment, and more than capable of playing CloD, the most demanding sim around at the moment.

  3. Hi Dave,

Thanks for your reply, much appreciated.

You are the second person to suggest a GTX 560Ti today... I have to be brutally honest I have no idea who makes this card... Google came up with a couple of makes.. (Zotac, Palit, MSI ect) I am assuming it is the MSI brand? http://www.google.co...iw=1366&bih=673

What card would you recommend between the GTX & HD6950?

I was wondering about the sound card and see your point. The £30 will now go towards the graphics card thumbsu.gif

Thanks again for your post and welcome :) Hope to see you online soon!

Hi Flyboy! Dont forget to plan on flying Rise of Flight (They are giving the game away now, but an awesome flight sim of WWI)

I just built a system for a buddy that is very similar to what you have listed with a couple of exceptions.

First, the motherboard has built in 7.1 surround sound support so why bother with the Soundblaster card? That would save you 29.99.

Second, you might want to consider getting the best GPU that you can afford, perhaps a GTX 560Ti or AMD HD6950? Slightly more expensive but well worth it in performance. Perhaps the savings with not getting the soundblaster would be the difference?

Whatever you decide on, welcome to the squadron and I hope to see you on comms!

    David

  4. Hi All,

Just joined this forum and this is my second post.. As mentioned in my first I am busy planning my gaming PC. It will be a self build (My first attempt)

I am not a PC engineer of any description but comfortable enough around a PC to attempt the build (with the help of a few manuals) ;)

I am on a budget (around £600) and have been researching what to buy and after a view posts on various forums have come up with a wish list of what I think will work.

I intend to mainly fly flight simms (IL2, Lock On ect) on this rig and hope that this machine will have enough grunt to run these simms with ease.

I would welcome any feedback to what I intend to buy and build...

    Here is the list

  5. Hi All,

Just joined Dangerdogz and thought this thread would be an appropriate first post.

I found Dangerdogz through the tribute video that was posted in memory of Blairgowrie and the sense of camaraderie and passion towards aviation & virtual aviation is what attracted me to your group. I hope I can become a valued member and contribute to this group positively.

As a little Bio here goes..

Originally from South Africa, but now reside in the UK (Northampton). I am fanatical about aviation (especially WW2 aviation) and also the holder of a PPL (Obtained in 1997) I have been flying in simms for as long as I can remember Starting for MFS in the early `90s, but have to admit have had little involvement with sims for the past few years (young family & work), but now am busy building my dream flight sim pc and coming back with a vengeance. :) I use to fly the first IL2 daily.... almost caused a relationship brake down lol and cant wait to have my new pc up and running and install IL2 1946!! I hope to be able to join DangerDogz for an online session soon!!
