Clod Night 9Th April
rox replied to DD_Fenrir's topic in IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover Blitz and Desert Wings: Tobruk
I would generally like some 109 flying against humans when playing on Dogz server, as we are RAF on SOW. This doesn't imply that I want to drag anyone else who doesn't want to into flying Blue, but it's a big part of the game that I want I personally to explore a bit more, and an added challenge for the rest that are flying Red (or not, as I barely know anything about flying a 109 in CloD). So expect to see me in Blue frequently on Dogz server. -

I can hold my own as well as navigate with relative ease, I just can't hold proper formation if my life depended on it (and it kinda does). Really I find myself lagging behind or going too fast despite being on the same settings. god forbid I try to speed up to keep up, half a minute later I'll be zooming past everybody like a runaway train. And rolling the plane to spot targets is an invitation to loneliness.

I'm wit FT philosophically. Shit happens, but as long as the chances of it happening to you or your loved ones are extremely miniscule (and with plane crashes and terrorism in the west in general they are), best to just go on with your life, or if not then start bothering about walking in the street because, yunno, car exhaust and sunshine cause cancer, among other harmful everyday things. In the end you can't really prevent being randomly picked by fate as a freak accident target, so it's just best to move along and resign your mind to the fact that well, if it happens, it happens. Even when stuff was blowing up in Lebanon every month a year ago, I had my plane ticket in my pocket, as the chances of being caught in some explosion that happens once a month and kills a few people mostly in Beirut's southern neighborhoods where I had no intention of going to anyway was many many times smaller than just being killed in everyday middle-eastern insha'allah traffic. (in the end I scrapped that trip because I got a volunteering thing in Azerbaijan) That being said I don't see why not put two people in the cockpit at all times, it's not really any kind of "sacrifice" as far as freedom goes.

Apologies for intruding on CaptJack's turf, but this is (I hope) a humorous and lighthearted take (rant) on east Asia from my own perspective, and not the kind of material I'd put in Jim's Place. But first, in order for you to not hate me for being a horrible, awful and obnoxious person it's important to know that this is all a big jest and parody of the ethnocentric mindset, and of course almost everything is written in unapologetic black humor mode - thus it's not actually anywhere near my real feelings about anything I write about here. It was however inspired by a true story of not being able to find a USB cable in one day (horrible, isn't it?). It contains a lot of profanity and hateful infantile outbursts, if you dislike that sort of thing stop here, but I will not apologize for humor. I wrote this on another forum back in November. The forum is not accessible to non-members so instead of links I'll provide screenshots. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7

Apparently just a nutcase. If it were terrorism surely he would have left a message behind, and tried to slam the plane into a settlement. God only knows what went on in the mind of this guy.

I don't know about Iran's motives to deny this but I'm sure they have all the reason to want to bomb ISIS in Iraq - Iraq is both an Iranian satellite state more than anything else, and ISIS is a regional opponent to Iran both in practical and ideological terms. Yeah that Iraq sent its planes to Iran of all places is beyond weird, especially as Syria was much more of an ally. On the other hand, Iran confiscated those planes as "the first stage of Iraq-Iran war reparations". Interesting about the IFF thing, I never looked more closely at that whole tragedy so I wouldn't know.

They actually did bomb ISIS: http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/dec/03/iran-bombs-isis-in-iraq-says-us Just not sure if with Tomcats. Iran was reluctant to send its F-14's to bomb even Saddam's Iraq when Iran was at full fledged war with it. They only did a very few sorties in Iraq with these planes as they were too valuable, they used F-4 phantoms for operations inside Iraq a lot more. Otherwise F-14 were used for Iran's airspace defense and as an early warning system, as their AWG-9 radars had a range of up to 150km, thus they would patrol the border/front and pick up any incoming air attack from far away. Of course the F-14 was vastly superior to Iraqi Migs and could down them with AIM-54's from very far away with impunity. The Iraqis learned to run away if they ever thought an F-14 was around. It was only after they got Mirage F1's from France a year after the war started that Iraqis had a fighting chance in the air, and indeed the first Iranian F-14 was shot down by a Mirage F1. Still, far more Iraqi Mirage F1's were shot down than Iranian F-14's, if I recall correctly Iran only lost a handful during the war, whereas Iraq lost a few dozen Mirages. Iran did lose a lot more F-4 though. One of the few Iranian F-14 ops inside Iraq was the epic raid on Al-Waleed airbase on the far west of Iraq. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H3_airstrike You can see Iran's F-14 on Google Earth in a few places, for example here by the hangars in Khatami Air Force base. Due to parts shortages it's estimated that out of the original 70-something craft perhaps only a dozen are operational today, despite Iran supposedly having reverse-engineered some technologies involved with various success rates. https://www.google.hr/maps/place/Esfahan,+Isfahan,+Iran/@32.7651579,51.8969452,603m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m2!3m1!1s0x3fbc35fe8c326799:0x7ab57816ef5837f5 I remember peering out of the bus on the ride from Esfahan to Yazd hoping to see an F-14 in the air or behind one of the many walls with guardhouses that flanked the road for a long time, but later I found out that while military installations, none of those I rode by were actually air bases, Khatami airbase being more north of the road in question

Thanks Pref, I use no solder as I don't have one around nor do I have the first idea where to get one, just wrap around the wires firmly and tape them, it works. Also no resistors, 3x 1.5v LEDs and 3x 1.5V AA batteries, I have read conflicting things on if I'd still need a resistor or not but so far it works like a charm, if it dies suspiciously then I will go down that route. I disassembled the entire thing yesterday and reassembled a cap rig. It's MUCH better than the clip, basically I'm completely satisfied now. I don't like caps overall so I cut off the top, all I need to do now is get a heavy duty stapler and staple the opening between the material layers, even if it's perfectly usable now, just looks bad. There's even a No Fear written on the cap to make it more badass with the already threatening beige color (don't judge, I was a kid when I got this cap)

That would look rather cool, though the paint would probably flake away as the wires are not solid material :/ Did a few upgrades today - removed the battery pack from the headset completely and extended the wire, batteries are now on the desk. Also more tape, way more tape. I have done no soldering whatsoever here, just tangling wires and taping them firmly. Works in Clod, now it's just a matter of fiddling with the sensitivity sliders and curves to make the movements smooth and natural. Shame Elite is buggy with Freetrack, so I will now try with FaceTrackNoir program which people say works with it. When I'll want to bother with it more I'll re-make the whole thing from scratch using something lighter and sturdier than pencils, and put the switch on the battery pack. Also Arthur that looks rather amazing and I'd experiment with it for sure if I had a bigger phone.
