    New Toy Mmm

Awesome photos Arthur. Love those shots of a warm summer day in England, shame about the fog What town is this crazy statue in? (edit: ah Ilfracombe) It looks like something from Alien. As for pics of the moon, a remote shutter with mirror lockup will reduce the shake.
  2. So wait, is it normal that antialiasing is still crap, and that selecting the gun loadout is still impossible? Because this is how it was one and a half years ago too and was basically the main reason why I got so pissed off with the game that I didn't bother reinstalling it. I select my loadout with red tracers, I save it and select it for that plane, I go in game, with that plane, the plane still shoots default white tracers and I presume all the other default ammo and not incendiary/AP that I selected, and I get extremely fucking pissed off, again.
  3. There is also this Iranian comedian, most of his stuff isn't that great but this one is an exception, simply priceless http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i7rlFpUhziE and this
  4. Funny video (though there are no Taliban in Iraq) This Palestinian guy does awesome arab-related stand up comedy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5F1Re1IHzy0
  5. I played it for a few weeks but uninstalled it just a few days ago as I needed disk space for other things. I loved the Lightning tank with the HEAT turret, while as infantry I was an infiltrator 95% of the time. Sneaking into rear bases and ambushing and killing people cloaked is just awesome. Hack a terminal, spawn a Sunderer that your team can spawn at and you are a huge asset. I played as Vanu, screw those nazis and communist hippies.
  6. No Swep, these folks from Tehran were on vacation in Yazd and this party was in our hotel courtyard. Drinking and dancing involved, headscarves not involved, all strictly against the rules of the Islamic Republic You would have no idea how many people drink in Iran and how many people, especially young ones, hold private house parties with dancing, western movies, and revealing dress like in the west. This footage in the hotel is rather timid actually. Pooka, what mall do you refer to? The clip at around 1:14? That's part of the bazaar in Erbil, Iraq, and gender present largely differs based on what's sold in the part of the bazaar you're in. Some streets have only cell phone shops, others sell only power tools, some sell clothes, some jewelry, some food etc... I've been to actual shopping malls in Iran that look exactly like those in the west apart from the women wearing headscarves. They even have the arcade, bowling, pool and and similar stuff, and it's full of people.
  7. Sorry for the jagged edges/shakiness/overall relatively shitty quality.

    Low Pass

Ukrainian low passes are even lower
  9. Hopefully as technology progresses we will be able to send human refuse such as these into alternate realities, specifically in this case in a dimension in which the war veteran that died and people like him didn't fight the Japanese, in which North America belongs to Imperial Japan and in which Unit 731 has a demand for able young stock like the scum in question.
  10. Unbelievable material. http://www.warhistoryonline.com/featured-article/colour-wwii-photos-look-like-they-were-taken-yesterday.html
  11. They should make one that tilts the barrel and firing assembly according ton the target movement and all you need to do is pull the trigger. And then you hit a sparrow on the tree and the real target shoots you.
  12. Sorry for derailing the thread, but speaking of buried aircraft, what ever happened to that Dornier 17 that was discovered at Goodwin sands a year or two ago?
  13. Yeah I'd like a news story to share as well. 36 buried vintage airplanes is just golden. Edit: found one http://www.itv.com/news/story/2012-11-28/buried-spitfires-to-be-evacuated/

    Persian Design

While I try to stop being lazy and write a proper trip report with pictures and all, feast your eyes on some photos of spectacular Persian visual arts. There is four times more of this but the forum won't let me post them as images until someone replies, it just keeps editing the original post and putting in links instead of images.
  16. I flew a real airplane today for the first time, and in Iran of all places The Columbian Ibis Aircraft Magic GS 700 LSA (I think, if not it was some other Magic), powered by a 100HP Austrian made engine, flew it from a recreational airfield north of Shiraz We went to this airfield because we heard they offered glider flights very cheap. Sure enough they had two gliders, a Blanik and some other older motor glider (metal not fiberglass), but for some administrative reasons we couldn't fly in those at this time (they are government owned). We could however fly in light single engine craft that were privately owned. I was fairly disappointed because I love gliders and yet have never flown in one, while I've flown in small single engined craft twice (but never touched the controls). Still I took half an hour flight while my friends took a full hour. If I had known that I would be allowed to fly the plane 90% of the time I'd take an hour as well. Anyway my pilot was a very nice guy (like 95% of Iranians I met) and knew great english, explained everything to me about the instruments and take off procedure (basics that I knew and engine related stuff that I didn't) and so we went, he let me pull back on the stick during takeoff while he did the rudder, and later handed everything over to me only interfering a few times when I messed up a bit more significantly like letting my nose drop too much. I had a bit of trouble with the rudder pedals since I'm on a twisty stick, good thing it was a yoke and not a stick because I'd probably try to twist it while flying. Flying itself, was amazing. Especially comparing it to the game, it was rather turbulentish and you could feel every wisp and bump in the air, almost as if you're riding in a jeep offroad, the nose bobbed left and right all the time, and the biggest difference of all was that you could actually feel every input you make and every movement of the plane in your own body. We flew maybe 10 meters beside an eagle which then literally broke away from as as an airplane would. Couldn't take any photos from the air since OMG spies (and an oil refinery nearby that we passed by car while on the way to the airfield that actually has AAA guarding it), but I have a few from the hangar and runway. Half an hour flight cost around 35$, in Croatia it's around 100$. Getting a PPL in Iran costs only 3000$ and the guy says it's probably the cheapest in the world (in Croatia it's some 9000$), however I was told that as a foreigner I couldn't apply because of security issues (read: shitty regime thinks I'll recon their stuff). If this ever changes in the future and the price remains three times cheaper than back home I will seriously consider doing this in Iran (I can get here and back home for 500$ overland), it's just an opportunity not to be missed. Anyway really unexpectedly awesome day for me. Cheers from a warm Shiraz
  17. Yep. Albania is in European only geographically.
  18. Yes you should http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=a9IvfuhfAi0
  19. Deliriants will do that to you. Reading personal experiences from people who have ingested Atropa Belladona, Datura, Henbane, Mandrake and the like is just priceless. Some guy high on Henbane laid down into a campfire and died a few years ago where I live. His two friends that survived were on the psych ward for a week longer screaming that snakes are coming out of their eyes and mouth. Why people would eat this stuff is beyond me, 99% of experiences are horrible, and it has a very real chance to poison you to death or make you crazy for good.
  20. To the immense delight of my parents I have decided to scrap my Iran/North Iraq travel plans and will instead spend a month and a half in India and Nepal for just slightly more money. Leaving in the first few days of October :)
