  6. hi brando, in my ntrks and trks it saves the skins, so i can only think that it must be a conf.ini thing, possible 'clearcache' set to 1 in the game section instead of 0???

  12. there used to be someone in one of my tutorials at uni, called Richard Face, which i thought was probally a bit cruel by his parents. All through school he must of gone through as dickface i also know two brothers called Wayne and Joe King. parents can be cruel it seems....

  14. well, the settings are the same, curious. i'm using the 196.34 drivers at the moment. Thought for a bit it might be mods, but its the same on my stock 4.09. I am at a loss. Oh well, at least its not important, i can live without shadows from smoke on snow, just find it irritaiting that i don't know why. Futher to what i posted before as my settings, 3 changes need to be made, in nvidia settings change anistropic filtering to 'application controlled', polygonstipple to 0, and texmipfilter to 3. fruitbat

  16. how odd. i wonder if it is the dll's i use. EDIT, just tried the march ones, no difference. what your nvidia settings? I'm very curious to find out whats causing this.
  17. Have you tried grid on the pc? its damn good imo, looks pretty special as well.
  18. the source was the conf.ini guide at mission4today, oh well, lol. i have it set on 3 now. Just to clarify, i get shadows on smoke on all maps i tried so far, except on snow, with polygonstipple off, are you sure you get smoke shadows on snow? Could very well be right, could also be the reason why I do have shadows on smoke with Polygonstipple off. Dosen't make any difference to the shadows on snow on my system. interesting, whats are the results of youre tests so far?

Hi FT, we have 4 differences in the conf.ini, and it was indeed polygonstipple that causes those shadows on the snow. with polygonstipple turned off (ie 0) i don't have those shadows anymore, but don't have any shadow created by those smokes on the snow, do you??, on other maps i still have shadow, just seems to be in the snow. also, i've noticed that you have your texmip filter is set at 3, (mines 2) and from my reading up on the conf.ini settings, TexMipFilter 0=Bilinear (fastest) 1=Trilinear (Improves quality with little sacrifice in speed) 2=anisotrophic (Best quality but slower) So what is 3? You also have TexFlags.TexCompressARBExt=1 whereas mine is off, again from my reading this only needs to be enable if you have S3TC compression enabled, which you don't have. The other difference we have is visibility distance, mines 3 vs your's is 2 (3 is the max and this setting is related to object distance). Heres some info i found on polygonstipple at mission4today, and The last quote seems to tally with my experience. @hi Bsword, be good to fly with you one day, lol!
  20. huh, i'd never noticed that before, but we already now know its not the dll's so, i'd be very interested to see your config.ini opengl section, so i can track down whats causing it, and correct.

  23. ok, heres the settings that i use, nvidia settings, OpenGL settings, [Render_OpenGL] TexQual=3 TexMipFilter=2 TexCompress=0 TexFlags.UseDither=1 TexFlags.UseAlpha=0 TexFlags.UseIndex=0 TexFlags.PolygonStipple=1 TexFlags.UseClampedSprites=0 TexFlags.DrawLandByTriangles=1 TexFlags.UseVertexArrays=1 TexFlags.DisableAPIExtensions=0 TexFlags.ARBMultitextureExt=1 TexFlags.TexEnvCombineExt=1 TexFlags.SecondaryColorExt=1 TexFlags.VertexArrayExt=1 TexFlags.ClipHintExt=0 TexFlags.UsePaletteExt=0 TexFlags.TexAnisotropicExt=1 TexFlags.TexCompressARBExt=0 TexFlags.TexEnvCombine4NV=1 TexFlags.TexEnvCombineDot3=1 TexFlags.DepthClampNV=1 TexFlags.SeparateSpecular=1 TexFlags.TextureShaderNV=1 HardwareShaders=1 Shadows=2 Specular=2 SpecularLight=2 DiffuseLight=2 DynamicalLights=1 MeshDetail=2 VisibilityDistance=3 Sky=2 Forest=3 LandShading=3 LandDetails=2 LandGeom=3 TexLarge=1 TexLandQual=3 TexLandLarge=1 VideoSetupId=17 Water=2 Effects=1 ForceShaders1x=0 PolygonOffsetFactor=-0.15 PolygonOffsetUnits=-3.0 In conjuction with these dll's, http://www.mediafire.com/?oummjwjckyh Without these dll's you will get jaggies on the coastlines with landgeometry=3 (which i use), however, if you use landgeometry=2 with these dll's, you will get jaggies on the coastlines , so be careful. these dll's were part of a pack of 5 that 1C release as beta 4.09 dll's. There was some other stuff that i suggested to jabo, but that was all mod stuff. Its quite possible that this setup can be improved on, there may well be settings in my openGL that can be improved, some of them i have no clue what they do, but this is all info i have gleaned from other forums. anyway, there you go
  24. @Toad, it seemed to be absolutly fine, but its hard to know for sure if your the only one flying, nothing to bench against really.
