  1. No adjustment, since it's spring loaded at a certain pressure. The only thing you need to check for is if it leaks through that little hole there. That's when you need to check the diaphragm, gasket, spring etc. I've seen a few failed(stuck) and leaking but it's not that common. Just make sure that you have movement and that it's not too tight in that guide hole there.

  2. usually arranged so that when the pressure rises the valve opens and permits greater flow of cooling water. If this device is stuck in the "low" pressure mode, it can cause overheating in the outboard motor.

  3. The POPPET VALVE is a device in the cooling system which opens or closes in response to the pressure in the water cooling system. Generally the pressure in the cooling system increases with increasing engine speed. The poppet valve--a name which really just describes the shape of the valve and not the fact that it is associated with a pressure controlled response in the cooling system--is usual...

  4. I don't envy US citizens and the country's economy right now man. Won't go for the RIB either, took another peek to make sure I got everything and found some more faults the company didn't tell me about. :)

  5. Yeah, usually I tug some wires etc. as an initial test as well but this wire didn't touch ground all the time. Different engine vibrations made it touch ground on occation only. Mostly lower rpms and high load, like when I was turning around just above planing speed there.

  6. I had never driven that boat before so after I was done shooting, I could start experimenting with lift/trim. In the video the prop was way too low and trim was way too high, which makes light V-hulled, and tail heavy boats jump around a bit. I found the sweet spot later on though, 60+ knots.

  7. squat. I'm currently looking at buying a 28' RIB with 2x250 E-Tecs. It's from an insurance company which had it recovered from a theft so it's very cheap. I could make profit off that boat by just selling the motors alone. The thieves did some minor damage to it though so I have to crunch some numbers before I go for it.

  8. emission laws. Here's me testrunning a 21' Zyklon with a 200XS: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s10RsOuPPSA

I managed to finally provoke the symptom at the end of the vid, sounds sinilar to a rpm limiter. The reason for it was a scuffed MAP-sensor lead, made the ECM a bit confused. And let me tell ya, that was NOT an easy fault to find lol. The diagnose program didn't find...

  9. Yep, apparently Mercury did alot of changes during those years. You CAN get a 2.4 to 200hp as well though but from what I've heard the 2.5XR6 has different(larger) porting so there you go I guess. We don't see alot of those older models anymore, Optimax, Fourstrokes and Verado's seems to have taken over. Besides Optimax, we're not allowed to sell regular two-strokes anymore. New...

  10. Yes I boat but not with my own boat. I work on them for a living and my workplace have enough boats for us to use if we'd ever feel the need to go out someday. Is that a Black Max with a split cowling you have, Toad? Those V6's have a sweet noise to them. Especially when fresh water running them on land. Peltor is a must. :)
