    1 For Badaim

Chicks with guns? If I understand correctly, in Thailand they're referred to as "ladyboys".
  2. Whoops, sorry, missed that. I often read this forum at work so it gets a little spotty sometimes.
  3. OMG, I just re-read this. He's using a E6750 and more shockingly a GTX 560Ti for his this networked machine. No wonder it runs so good." Hey TOAD maybe you need to test drive one of these. Samsung 39" HDTV (low latency model) Can you give us the exact model ODhill?
  4. Played it, runs ok, but in the air, like when manning a tailgun, there is a sort stutter at when scenery loads even playing off of an SSD on a fairly high end system. i5 3570k @ 4.2Ghz 16GB RAM 180GB OCZ Agility 2 SSD GTX 670 OC with 2GB DDR5 There's still some optimization that could be done I think and hopefully it will improve in time. On the ground everything is more or less buttery smooth so can't complain for a free game.
  5. While I understand a bit of the many limitations of ROF, I think its being bashed a bit. I've flown on Oceanic's server where they had 6 hour somewhat dynamic missions where something like destroying a train before it makes it to a factory prevents the supply of parts available for a specific planes productions and thus depriving the enemy of that asset for a time. While ROF doesn't have anywhere near the flexibility of IL-2 or even CLOD, I've still had loads of fun not only flying on the Oceanic server but also in coops hosted by Gustang. It's not all bad,has been a lot of fun and perhaps in time it will improve. It's definitely sounds way, way off from any kind of SEOW platform. Either way though its good to see that there is new life in the WW2 flight sim niche. I'll say this though the ROF developers seem competent. They seem to be pretty passionate in their work as well. On a side note the ROF forums are not even anywhere near the level of the Ubi, 1C forums and I mean that in a good way.
  6. Hey ODhill, that is like the holy grail of joysticks you've got there. Of the more expensive ones out there, you got the right one from what I have heard. As for the 45k sim setup, I think I'd rather buy a small plane, speedboat or corvette first, but that's just me.

    Low Pass

HOLY **** LOL. The Alt on the hud says 10m, you know he was lower then that. Nice find Arthur probably about 3m from the bottom of the plane to the ground.

    Low Pass

Yeah, harrier I think, looks like he's carrying some sort of center line targeting pod. Not the fastest jets, but you'd hardly know it from watching them in flight. Don't know what the general consensus is, but I like the look of them. Very futuristic. These things are bad to the bone when you observe them irl.
  9. Wow, she sounds like a keeper. Falcon BMS is pretty much the same as IL-2 in that most guys just post their IP so you can connect directly. Haven't tried it with Hyperlobby. HL, is a pretty good place to get some fast player vs. player action if you want to hone your skill in my opinion. Either that or join the DDz Ladder matches. I'd consider partaking, but I'm afraid everyone with laugh at my pathetic dogfighting skills. I do much better in the hit and run department, but I know practicing 1 on 1 would help me a lot.
  10. OverDhill are you talking about the guy that says "that was a real goat rope." and 'You know, the airlines are hiring'. Don't do the 'Instant Action' missions, either do 'Tactical Engagement' or 'Campaign'. You can hit taxi takeoff if you want to be ready to go on the runways and bypass the whole startup procedure. As for HOTAS bindings I can't remember them all cause I haven't flown in a few weeks but some of the most important are: HOTAS - ECM consent toggle HOTAS - TMS up, down, left and right (usually assigned to substick) HOTAS - DMS up, down, left and right (usually assigned to substick) Wpn - Fire Gun Wpn - Pickle Cursor slew up, down, left and right (usually assigned to substick) Radar - antenna tilt down, up and center Radar - range increase, decrease Ckpit - Air brake toggle Radar lock next target, previous target Optional include: HOTAS - wheel brakes Radar A to A Radar A to G Dogfight mode and there may be one or two I missed but in general that should get you started. This is the CH Fighterstick I currently use for most of my sims, it has 3 substicks and a POV hat stick which really come in handy. The X52 has just as many if I am not mistaken or at least close to it. I'm also using an X52 throttle. Anyways probably better to focus on IL-2 for now but the information was worth posting anyway not only for you but for anyone else interested who comes across it. See you in the unfriendly skies.
  11. For sure, once you get a new HOTAS it will help loads, with Falcon especially, once you have radar mode, cursor slew, and soft and hard lock (yes there are two types) mapped. In regard the the locking of radar contacts if I remember correctly I have TMS up, down, left and right mapped to my HOTAS castle stick. Hit TMS up once and it soft locks a target, twice gives you a hard lock but also makes the bandit more aware of your intentions. TMS down unlocks contacts. Its really not that bad once you are all set up. I do however understand wanting to focus on one thing at a time so concentrate on IL-2 for since that is the mainstay around here and then later on we can fly some jets. You made a comment back there about Lock On the sim. Its pretty good and hopefully is getting better now that FC3 will integrate with the other DCS titles with should put it back in the limelight a bit hopefully. It's definitely not as hardcore as Falcon BMS which is more on par with A-10c. There are a few guys round here that fly A-10c and a bit of Blackshark so maybe with the addition of FC3 we can all get together and have some fun with it. As far as wingman communications, I personally won't put them on my HOTAS but there is a way to use voice recognition software so if you, for instance, want your wingman to attack your target you simple say "Attack my target" into your headset mic and the order will be sent. Takes a bit of setting up but very, very cool once its working.
  12. Mine, well I don't think Newegg carries the exact model any more. Briefly looking at Newegg now, it seems they might have or be in the process of phasing out 1920x1200 in favor of 1920x1080, I just don't see any here in the 27in department. Every thing is 16:9 aspect ratio as opposed to 16:10. I'll keep looking. EDIT: Hum, interesting. I'm reading that it is perhaps due to 1920x1080 16:9 at 120Hz approaching bandwidth limit for dual link DVI. Sound like 1920x1200 16:10 at 120Hz is too much for the interface to handle and since everything is leaning towards 120Hz these days it seems I think 16:10 may be to impractical and expensive to produce in the lower end display market. That really sux actually. My monitor is 60Hz so no fancy 3D and have the occasional issue with games having to be tweaked to run smoothly with v-sync on like BF3 for instance. If I the v-sync off I get bad tearing in the graphics. Adaptive v-sync is supposed to fix this, essentially turning off v-sync until the fps hit 60. When the fps hit 60 the v-sync kicks in to cap it. Doesn't quite work as advertised though, in some games it reduces tearing but doesn't totally eliminate it. The other solution is to have a 120Hz monitor but I assume if you're fps hit 120 with vsync off you'll still get tearing but perhaps this isn't the case. I haven't researched 120Hz too much to see what the populous is saying about their experiences. I'll tell you one thing those. In this age of mega corner cutting, we're seeing a lot of half backed stuff that doesn't exactly work like it's supposed to if you ask me.
  13. OverDhill, Falcon BMS in not quite as daunting as it might first appear. There are only certain control function needed, the rest are for if you're making a hardcore simpit. I've you've got someone to talk you through it, its not that bad. For coops you can just do taxi/takeoff starts which saves you from the whole startup procedure. I learned how to do a ramp start just to get to know the F16 better and for my own satisfaction. In practice however I never do ramp starts as the nav alignment takes too long. The biggest part is learning the weapons systems but there are some great tutorial videos that make it a lot less work. If you've got a decent HOTAS then you'll be alright. I'm currently using a CH Fighterstick, bought on ebay for $45 practically brand new, an x52 Throttle which yes can be used standalone (without the stick part), a custom button box I built and custom rudder pedals I also built. The Microsoft FFB 2 is a great stick and can be had relatively cheaply. Toad, Where you using an HDMI or DIV cable to hook up that TV you had? I didn't have any trouble getting mine to detect properly. Also, I don't seem to have any graininess on my 27inch monitor at 1920x1200. Though going from a CRT to a LCD does take some getting used to. OverDhill, Don't know if you're keen on sharing that skin once you're done but I know someone would like to have it. I don't know how much data is streaming to the networked PC but perhaps gigabit Ethernet would help performance. May just be poorly optimized and require beefy hardware. Are you connected to the gauge PC at 100Mbit or 1000Mbit?
  14. This goes out to all my English friends. It made me laugh hopefully you find it amusing too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njiUFtrFky8
  15. Welcome OverDhill, Another Falcon BMS flier. There are a couple of BMS fliers here including myself so we'll have to host some missions soon. That's a great setup you've got there. I'd like to get a touchscreen but the prices are kind of high. I hooked up a 32inch LCD to test it out and it was pretty awesome, except for the fact it was 720p so the clarity wasn't that good. I imagine a 1080p would be have been much better but for now I'm sticking with my 27inch 1920x1200 monitor. I've always heard that networked gauges were a bit laggy, how does your network machine perform in that capacity? Perhaps things have changed a bit. As for HOTAS setups, I'd say whatever make it easier for us to shoot you down in a dogfight. But seriously, nice to have you on board I'm sure you can probably talk a bit of tech with the best of us.

    Hey Guys

Welcome Faustnik, You'll find many of us around here have somewhat less then stellar speech and writing ability, not to mention all our other issues. Seriously, glad to have you on board and look forward to speaking with you.
  17. Looks nice for sure. I really like the new undercarriage additions, makes for a more realistic sim. The lighting effects for the fire will add quite a bit of depth as well. Now if they can add that flicking in the cockpit. Now if they can do that, why can't we get a general shadowing effect for the cockpit interior that darkens everything up a bit when one the fuselage is between the sun and yourself as when one goes inverted for instance. Perhaps this already occurs but I hadn't noticed it. Thank goodness we have IL-2 cause even after all these years there is still no substitute.
  18. That's a sign you're getting old m8. They all do these days. Oh... Well, at least she comes with both driver AND passenger side airbags. You know how us old folks drive...doh
  19. Um, what were we talking about again? Wow, those girls look like they could still be in high school.
  20. They are showing CLOD clips but looks like he's actually playing Wings of Prey. I'm surprised they are using chains to drive that instead of gears.
  21. I want a "Stinkmaster 2000" too!!!
