  1. Hi Arthur, bought it from G2A and after plugging the provided key into the BOS site my account shows "start edition" activated. Seems this was a special edition only offered in Russia? Since my internet kind of sucks now that I moved out to the country (satellite), its better for me to download at night which I haven't done yet, so the game isn't installed. I did shoot and email to 1C support and here's their reply. Looks like you get 2 planes to start and have to unlock the other 6 through the campaign thus essentially bring you up to standard edition perhaps?

    Hi,

Initially, you only get 2 aircraft. The remaining 6 aircraft you can get during the campaign
You will not be able to use the option "ACTIVATE UNLOCKS" http://il2sturmovik.com/activate-unlocks

Detailed description "Start Edition" is available on its DVD-box and on our website http://forum.il2sturmovik.ru/topic/2257-opisanie-startovogo-i-standartnogo-izdanij-ig/ r on DVD-box games
It is impossible to improve the "Start Edition" to "Standard Edition" or "Premium edition"

As the details from the link are in Russian, here's the translation via Google.

    - Start edition contains two aircraft : LaGG -3 29th and a series of Bf 109 F- 4 - Another 6 aircraft ( Yak - 1, 69 -series , the Bf 109 G- 2 , IL - 2 AM- 38 (Model 1942 ) , the Ju 87 D- 3 , the He 111 H- 6 , Pe- 2 87 Series ) is available for free in the game , passing career. - It is also possible to purchase 2 additional premium aircraft La - 5 and FW 190 A- 3 in our store http://il2sturmovik.ru/store/ - This publication contains the key for the version of the game from the site to Steam it is not suitable . - Drive to the game is not required . - Release Date November 19, 2014

All in all, I'm fine with this as I'll pretty much exclusively be playing offline anyways. But its good information for anyone thinking they will just buy this and hop online with you guys having all 8 planes unlocked straight away.

I'll be sure to pick up the La 5 and the FW 190 when the go on sale sometime, but this ought to keep me busy for a while.
  2. Been having a bit of fun with a free program called World of Guns lately. The basic concept is you take firearms apart and reassemble them. The attention to detail is surprising. You can take guns apart to their most basic components and race the clock putting them back together. There's also animations of the functionality. Give it a go, I'm sure some of you will enjoy it if you haven't already seen it.

  3. Thanks FT. Your line of thinking is correct. Just prior to your post I did go into the bios and changed a bunch of PCI/PCIE related settings. They weren't exactly under the same terms as the ones you posted but BIOS naming conventions are often less then standardized. I also put in my Win 7 disk and did a startup recovery which took about 3 seconds to complete. Rebooting and is working fine now. Just wish I hadn't had to reboot my machine about 30 times through this whole ordeal. Thanks again.

Normally I wouldn't have upgraded from a GTX 670 to a 770 however I just built my son basically the same machine I have (less memory, fewer hard drives) and decided to give him my 670 as well. Should be seeing a good hick in FPS as my old card was a reference model 670, and my new one is..... well..... not.

  4. The following is what I posted over at the Tech Support Forums. I'm usually not asking for a whole lot of help on these issues but I'm willing to try anything that will save me from a complete re image. It may be that I just need to try and run a Windows repair but still like so input first.

Dear God, I need some serious help here. Windows 7, purchased a new 700 series Nvidia graphics card of which my previous card was also Nvidia but 600 series. Prior to installing the new card I uninstalled all Nvidia drivers save for a few that stated they required a reboot to be uninstalled completely. Then, being the idiot that I am, instead of rebooting and completing the uninstall process, shut down the machine and installed the new Nvidia (700 series) card.

Upon reboot, my machine will post however after the post the screen in completely black. Windows 7 continues to boot as can be seen from the HDD activity however I have absolutely no video.

I've tried most all of the ports on the back of the video card with several monitors and still nothing. The card seems to be working as I get the post and self test screens just fine but then nothing.

I then went into my BIOS and set the integrated graphics to the priority display and enabled the GPU within the CPU (i5 3570k) which I believe are something like the 4000hd or something. Tried all the related ports on the motherboard and I get the same result. Post, self test, then nothing. I've tried putting the original graphics card back in as well but still nothing.

To me, its looking like the video drivers have become so borked that Windows doesn't know what to do. I would have thought the integrated graphics would have worked no matter what but alas this is not so. I can't even get to safe mode. Well, I can probably get there but I can't see anything so it is useless.

Worst case scenario, I have a complete system backup with Macrium Reflect. I could potentially put in the old card, restore the whole system and then start over, this time not being lazy. I'd like to avoid this if at all possible though as its going to be a bit time consuming, potentially risky and a hell of a hassle. As stated the machine seems to be loading Windows fine, there is just no video.

Please, please, please. help if you can. Thanks.

  5. You can try using a cloud mod or another one if you're already using one. From what I've seen when I did some altering of cloud textures it has a lot to do with how the clouds were faded out at the edges of the texture area.  If the cloud image reaches the border of the texture area before being faded it contributes greatly to this. Basically the cloud texture files are of set resolution like 640x480 or whatever they are (I don't recall offhand) with a picture of a cloud in the middle. If the picture of the cloud reaches the border of the 640x480 area before being faded out it helps make the clouds look like shit. That said, they way the clouds are rendered in the game inherently causes this angular effect to a greater or lesser degree depending on texture files being used. In other word using different cloud textures might possibly reduce the appearance of the phenomenon but I don't think there is any way to completely eliminate it.

It's been some time since I messed with this so I'm working off memory. There may be a setting in the conf.ini if I recall that can have a small effect on this as well but what it was eludes me right now.

  6. Hello Dogz!!! Sorry been really caught up with everything other then flying lately. I'll be sure to stop in and say hi to you all soon. Just thought I'd post an update. It's funny how life can turn around rather quickly. Things are good with me as of late, hopefully a trend that continues. I hope all of you are doing well and those of you that are not, I wish the best.

Anyways, new toy I picked up. 3,336 miles, 2001 and paid $2000 USD. Pretty good damn deal. Not and airplane, but fun none the less. Pic taken with my new phones camera, 13Mp it takes pretty nice photos.

  7. Should be a pretty good WW2 sim with 777 Studio's involvement, though I hope the AI is better then that in RoF. If the new IL-2 AI could be ported over that would probably be really nice. Considering picking this up but I'm a bit put off by pre-release purchases these days. I'd be nice if the sim could include the best parts of IL-2 1946 and RoF into one masterpiece but that's probably never going to happen.

Sorry to hear the forums suck, where did they get these moderators from anyways from the onset. Did they comb the 1C forums looking for the most ridiculous fanboi brown noser they could find? The RoF forums seemed pretty good to me so I'd be surprised if a bunch came from there.

  8. The ultimate setup within reason for IL-2 would probably be a MSFFB2 red and a X52 Pro throttle with either decent store bought or custom built rudder pedals.

I have a CH fighterstick I picked up online for about $40. It's virtually brand new. Great for flying anything with advanced avionics and radar like DCS or Falcon BMS but I still prefer the MSFFB2 for both IL-2 and CLOD. I didn't find it so great for ROF, you need to turn the forces down considerably or fighting the torque/ungulations of the plane gets a bit hard on the wrist. The CH is a very precise piece of equipment but once you've flown IL-2 with a MSFFB2 nothing else feels quite right. I'm thinking I should pick up 1 or 2 more MSFFB2 before too long so I have spare parts.

It might actually be possible to remake the stick using the same driver but would require a lot of work. I've toyed with the idea of upgrading the system to a more robust version perhaps using several metal parts and newer servos. I'd have to buy another stick just to prototype though cause there is no way I am messing with my current one which works beautifully. The only part of the system that would be difficult to replace would be the PC boards. To that extent the only thing I see possibly going out would be some power components or servo drives which should be repairable by a skilled electronics technician. The circuit board quality seems very good on the one I own, solder work would seem to stand little chance of screwing them up. Some on the cheap boards I've seen can only handle so much before the wire traces start coming off.

  9. Almost makes me want to buy the DCS Mustang.....almost. Looked like he was coming in kind of hot on that landing but he obviously knows what he's doing. Must be great to fly one of those, imagine how much more fun it would be to let loose with some 50 cals. Watching that vid though, IL-2 really does a pretty good job of simulating the experience, especially considering its age and limitations.
