  1. One would then assume that all the myriad of vibrations that occur are merely a cacophony of vibrations and not sounds unless they are actually heard. However this would require some form of definition or quantification of what can actually be regarded as heard.

In conclusion, there are two separate paradigms evolving from this dispute, one stringently positivist and the other relying on largely normative statements. To return the the original topic, silence may not be silence after all.

    How about that?

Mate, anyone who has ever been married is well aware of that. ;)

Absolutely Tribunus. In fact, in that respect silence can be likened to the scenario of an elephant in the room that no-one wants to talk about - something huge is in the way and is acting as a block but people walk around it rather than deal with it.

So, for once I agree with Jedi (cr@p) in that silence may not be silence after all. Silence = elephant

I'm glad I can type this silently rather than saying it......believe me!

  2. Good score Sid. Just as a matter of interest, I compared our individual scores and found something interesting.

    Sid Jim

    Passmark rating 1714 1705

    CPU Mark 6654 4480

    2D Graphics 359 426

    3D Graphics 1013 2695

    Memory Mark 1812 969

    Disk 567 761

    CD 88 195

You have a 3gb Quad which I assume is Intel and I use a 3.4gb AMD quad. I suspect you are using 6 or 8gb of RAM while I am using 4gb.

Anyone care to comment about the CPU difference?

Sorry, I tried to line up the columns but it doesn't work?

Close, aren't they, but it's interesting to see how the scores are made up and compare.

Yes, it is an Intel i7 and I'm running 6gb of 'Crucial' RAM. The graphics cards are a huge difference, your ATI is a beast and my Nvidia 460 is a slightly oc'd mid-range.

  3. Nice find Friar!

At first I just assumed this was just about the flag in the conf.ini. But this is much better..

To start off, I am changing these Friendly killed messages so I feel better:

FriendAircraftDestroyed Enemy Ace: Obliterated by your Superior Skills!
FriendStaticAircraftDestroyed Enemy Ground Aircraft shot to bits!
    FriendTankDestroyed Killed another Can
    FriendCarDestroyed Wasted more bullets?
FriendArtilleryDestroyed Your bravery knows no bounds!
FriendAAADestroyed Guts like yours are unknown to mortal man.
    FriendBridgeDestroyed Enemy Bridge: Weee!
FriendWagonDestroyed Enemy Train turned to trash
    FriendShipDestroyed Enemy Ship go Boom!

Lol, it's good fun altering it and putting stuff like what you have Snacko....

    PlayerWounded Ouch! Not good...

    PlayerWounded2 Bugger! This really hurts...

    Player_Killed Aaaargh.....

    FailedFlaps Bugger! Jammed flaps!

  4. ~S~ Chaps,

Thinking about it ....if the weather is a bit naff then it would be nice to have a nearby pub to "gather Inn" on Friday and Saturday evenings.

For that reason my vote would be to go for JP's "limited offer" in Cambridge . Lets decide asap one way or another ...over to you chaps.

I think JP needs to know numbers sooner rather than later for a block booking if we choose that option.

    ~S~ Painless

:iagree: and agree with JPs offer. Am probably coming up on motorbike so will be cadging lifts left, right and centre :D

  6. Similar to Jim, no issues at all with TS3 since we started to use it. I've done multiple updates and it has always worked with all Dogz, from my side anyway, whether they are on the same version or not.

I run a USB headset for TS alone with the game sound coming from the surround sound speakers.

  7. Another reason might be that the prop hub(center of rotational mass) came closer to the center of the airframe, but that would leave the crank. The crank is still high, and coupled to the prop via gear drives, although it does call for a narrower engine cowling up where the pilot might wanna see around it.

Perhaps it was to do with the down-sizing and streamlining of the nose. Does the DB engine still have an oil sump or reservoir at the bottom? If it is removed and replaced by oil injection there is no need for a sump thus removing weight and bulk from the engine. It would possibly need some sort of reservoir/cooler but this could be positioned further back and behind the engine as it appears to do so. Doing this along with the raising of the crankshaft/gears nearer the centre line would enable some streamlining due to the reduction in engine size.

    Edit: Bit more info here

'Daimler-Benz DB 600 series engines - one of those designs that turned out to be right from the very start... Inverted mounting provided better visibility, lower center of gravity, and improved maintenance access. In the Bf 109, a cannon was mounted between the engine banks and fired through a propeller hub. The DB-601A in the Bf 109E, used fuel injection instead of a carburetor, a great asset in combat since the engine did not cut out under negative g' forces. This engine was also used in some Heinkel 111s and license-built versions in the Macchi MC.202 Folgore and several Japanese aircraft.'

Answering my own question, the picture on the page shows that there is a flat oil reservoir, situated at the bottom of the engine inbetween the valve mechanism covers.

  8. Just saw this when asked about how 4.10 was going :)

It's going fine. We would like to post the user guide PDF as dev. update as soon as Oleg gives final approval for it.

User guide = full feature list plus own chapters for new planes' date=' main features and everything else that need explaining.[/quote']

    S!

Let's hope we get the PDF for reading while waiting for release. Would be great to dig in to the new features a bit before downloading the patch' date=' to check the features/fixes etc. Good news :)[/quote']

    Wah hay....!!!

New install, here we come

  9. I would love to get it running again Brando, thank you for your offer. You are right though, there is a fair bit of travel involved.

I'm checking on info that the 8800GTXs are incompatible with new boards with PCIe 2.0 but can't get anything conclusive. The cards ran ok on the P5N mobo - this is PCIe 2.0 - although there were some occasional graphics issues that appeared to be resolved with a change in the GeForce driver.

If they are incompatible then I'll get some 400 series cards but I can't get a shop to lend me one to test that theory.....reluctant to buy until I know. The other alternative is to buy a new pooter. The one I am looking at for the right price is a similar spec to the rebuild though so I am hesitating again

  10. Over the past 3-4 weeks I have accumulated various hardware in order to resolve computer issues and/or rebuild in my current case.

This has been to no avail and I am left with items I will list later. With major house works going on I don't have the time or inclination to RMA motherboards/processors just in case they are at fault - basically I have stripped out the case apart from a hard drive and graphics cards because of a problem that couldn't be resolved and rebuilt with mobo, processor, power supply and ram....unfortunately it crashed after a day and now all I have is two fans spinning and bugger all else. I was flying last week on the original build so graphics/sound cards and some stuff is obviously fine.

I would like to buy a new computer and get a nice long warranty.

    Items for sale are:

    Case

    2 x Nvidia GeForce 8800GTX graphics cards

Windows7 oem single licence - new last week

    Original build - January 2008

Asus P5N-T Deluxe Socket 775 motherboard (replacement board fitted under warranty last year)

Asus Silent Knight II Socket 775 cpu cooler

500gb Raptor HD, 10,000 rpm - has new install of Windows7 but would probably need reformatting

850 watt power unit for SLI

    4gb DDR2 6800 Crucial ram - 6 months old

    8gb DDR2 1333mhz Crucial ram - 2 weeks old

    LG CD rom optical drive

    Creative soundcard

Rebuild - new stuff bought last week

    Asus P6X58D-E LGA1366 motherboard - new

Intel i7 960 LGA1366 quad core processor and cooling fan - new

Corsair TX950 power unit for SLI or TriSLI - new

    6gb 1600mhz Crucial ram - new

    LG DVD rom RW etc

LG DVD rom RW etc optical drive - new

I am sure that there is enough bits there for someone to build a running rig.

I would prefer to sell all in one go rather than split so, to take into account age of some components, the newness of others and the possibility of one of the boards or the processor being faulty I will sell for £600 all in.

If interested please PM me for further details or to negotiate.

    Cheerzen

    Edited asking price
