Hi Rico, Am running XP SP3 at the moment. Have not done too much in the way of trying different vid drivers, but always uninstall/install using Driver Cleaner. Currently running catalyst 09.10, a fairly old set, but they have always given acceptable performance with no issues, so if they ain't broke, I didn't try to fix 'em. I also use alacrity pc to switch off all unnecessary services, and in desperation have even stopped AV and firewall. That leaves me with just 26 processes running. Don't have any particular preference for video cards - all I ask is that they give me a decent framerate. The 4870 or GTX 450 are both available on ebay for an affordable price. Current rig is a Foxconn X38A board, E8400 chip, 2Gb DDR2 - I think 1333, but I can't seem to get it to run any higher than 667, and a Corsair 750w psu .

Hi Rico, Have enabled the 4Gb address space option and run a couple more tests with the BD track: RC4 gives an average of 57, min of 11 on perfect, and av of 66, min 21 on excellent An older install of 4.09m gives: Av of 76, min 20 on perfect, and av of 71, min of 22 on excellent. Now I'm even more confused! I can live without perfect if I have to, but can't live with the stutters and the odd crash.

Thanks Rico. have spent a couple of days playing with the settings but no improvement. Am now thinking of upgrading the video card from a Radeon HD 4850, 512Mb DDR3 to an HD 4870 with 1Gb (or even 2) of DDR5. Is that likely to help do you think?

I ran the BD track on an old install of 2.0n and got 72 average, 23 minimum on perfect, with all the background services running. On RC4 I get minimum of 11 with all the services switched off. I also tried an offline single mission (RC4) - A62m Airbase Strike - not particularly high-stress it seems to me. Framerate went down to 3 - on excellent! Does this suggest the current install is where the problem is? @GK - no new software installed recently EDIT - Have done a fresh install starting from out-of-the-box. Switched off everything I can, including AV and firewall. Only 26 processes running (XP sp3). BD shows av of 61, 13 min on perfect. Maybe I'll have to live with it?

I thought it was just a frame rate issue - but tonight on the dogfight server I got the stutters, then the game locked up and finally crashed completely - 3 times. Could anybody suggest where I might start please....

Hi Snack, Did you post info about setup for RC4? I'm sure I read it, but now can't find it. Fps has gone to pot - used to run at about 29 minimum on Black Death. It's now dropped to 11, with a lot of stuttering. Temporary fix is to back to excellent settings, which puts frame rates back up to an acceptable 23-ish minimum. But who wants to fly on excellent....?

I've noticed that when you whizzy guys post links to things, you say get it "here" - here being the link. This looks really snazzy, much better than the www.... link that I have to put up with. Would one of you kind gents explain how you do this please......

Thanks Jabo, nice to be back. I aim to fly at least once a week. IF I can ever get fully patched up..... Seem to have a working RC4 now, but only 4 mods. Can I copy the mods over from my 2.01 install? And do I need to install the Dogfight server?

Hi guys, I have a working copy of 4.10.1. Now all I need is a working copy of RC4! Could somebody give me some (idiot-proof) guidance please. Like exactly what version I should be applying the RC4 patch to and what configuration is required. Many thanks.

Haven't flown for about a year for various reasons, but tonight was special so I found the time. Nothing seemed to have changed. The banter was as mad as usual, the welcome as warm as ever, the flying as much fun as I remember. Might have to make it a regular thing again. The Dogz really are a special outfit (so how come anybody can join.....?). Thanks guys. Thanks Jim.

Hi chaps, Am hoping to join coops tonight. I've just installed 4.101 over 4.09m - the splash screen comes up for a second then disappears - no game! Can anybody suggest a fix please, or have I done something wrong? EDIT..... Ummmm.... Perhaps if I downloaded and istalled the right patch......

Thanks Crash.. Is it just a matter of downloading from the vault and applying over 4.09m? Time is a bit short and I can't afford to screw up if I want to fly tonight.

I'd like to join in as well. Could anybody give me the current version number please. Have just updated to the latest version via the Ultrapack updater, will that be compatible? Have updated TS3. Hope to be online later - if I can remember what all the buttons and switches are for. Dammit, where's my trackir kit.....

~S~ Jim, It's sad that it's taken such news to get me back here. I still remember the night in September 2007 when I popped up on your server, un-announced and (sort of) uninvited. WTF you said, who are you....? It didn't seem to matter very much, the welcome was warm and the flying good, even if I could do barely more than take off. I wanted to join the Dogz so much I even went through Joint Ops... 4 years later, still can't fly worth a damn, but the welcome and friendship is as warm as ever. You have created a very special bunch of misfits and reprobates (no names - you know who you are..) from all over the world, and I was privileged to meet some of them and you and Helen at Duxford 2010. I haven't flown much lately due to my own "problems" - how trivial they seem compared to some. Time to take a leaf out of your book, and make an effort to return to something I enjoyed so much. You and Helen are in my thoughts. Rest easy my friend. Adrian
