I use IL2 Joy controll, as it's more detailed and flexible, but I've never had such a problem. I am probably jaded, but I've been using saitek sticks for years and have always had trouble with thier drivers; in short, they suck. I don't know if this has any bearing on your trouble but I have found that you can't leave your sticks plugged in when you start or re-start your computer, the frickin' things never work right and usually cause trouble with other programs, but if you wait untill the machine settles down and everythig is loaded, all is fine. I have found this to be true with several stick-machine combinations over several years with all sorts of drivers. (except for Hunter82's wonderful x36 drivers)

I actually changed my seat height and added a shim under the stick to get my arm comfortable. I may do some more experimentation.

Just wanted to add my $.02. The 8800GT is a G90 card and for half the price offers 85-90% of the performance of a GTX (it actually outperforms both of the GTS's), it is really the only Nvidia card to buy at this time. I aggree with Jim though in that for this game, the sli will probably be overkill. On the other hand, for $250, if you play other gimes, you should really Frag some alien ass with 2 GT's.

Unfortunately, it's not independant, but I can write on the keys,so I don't have to remember all those extra commands. Here's a better pic. And yes those are cookie crumbs on the throttle.

I just renamed my copy IL2 409 and unzipped the files into that then renamed the exe to IL2 409 and sent a copy to desktop. Bada Bing! two games two versions. And BTW, the Slovakia map is freakin awesome: I just flew around all night last night. and the 75k sight distance is awesome to the tenth power......unfortunately it definitely bends my 7800GTX's back, I fear what will happen with other planes on a populated map. I'm thinking that the entry price 75k world is a 512MB card minimum (as Oleg admitted), but its a wonderful world.

My wife has heard me mention the troubles with Vista, and when I mentioned this article, she asked me, "WHY would Microsoft release a product with so many problems?" I had no good answer for her.

I would add that you can use side slip to bleed off speed if your coming in to hot. This technique is especially useful if your damaged, low on fuel, impatient, etc. and can't or don't want to make a go-'round.

A similar thing happened to one of the Mars landers. Nasa specced out the thrusters in poundels and the contractor built them using newtons. when they fired them they were significantly short on power, causing the lander to never be heard from again. I'm glad the other story ended better.
