Have you managed to use it yet Col ?

1 hour ago, Friar said:
Will that be "Ponty" for short?
Even better ! What say you Gary ?

“Pontius” is an excellent idea, easy to say quickly, shall we make it DD_Pontius then ?

485th did not have the best of days ! Red 1 (myself) and 2nd Lt Artois, got hit by 88 Flak at around 11500 ft alt well into enemy territory. Had to hand over 485th to Capt Cloister (Friar) and make for a friendly airbase with holes, no right aileron, damaged right engine and three fuel leaks. Stellar Artois also had serious damage and made for his nearest friendly airbase. We both made successful landings thankfully .
After completing an extended patrol over enemy territory Capt Cloister made the decision to bring the remainder of 485th home without attempting any ground attack which given the circumstances was probably wise. All was well with the 5 ship formation returning home at around 1500ft @ 250mph when Mobius had a sudden and catastrophic airframe failure resulting in his demise ! We think due to an earlier flak burst causing a delayed structural failure ?
So, no enemy aircraft sighted, no ground kills, two damaged aircraft, two long truck rides home, one lost aircraft and pilot.....
HQ... please send hookers and whisky !

Welcome AOB, you sound like you would fit in here no problem sir.
Many of us are both old and complete bar-stewards also.
A two syllable name is ideal for comms on TS......
how do you feel about the name “Ancient” ? 🤔

Very sorry to hear that Crash, hoping for a good outcome mate.

Both very interesting reads thanks chaps. It always fascinates me the way a Radial engine crankshaft and con rods work, it’s poetry in motion.
1” of MP per 100rpm as a rule of thumb, would that be transferable to inline engines, just as a good habit ?

Raring to go Skipper .

Very impressive kit chaps, how far things have progressed !

Well I suppose that is one way of doing it 402nd....
The 485th prefer the “only half the squadron makes it back in one piece with a hop skip and jump finale terminating on the grass” method !
Also giving the ground crew audience value for money is important to us, making the landings last at least 10 minutes is always preferable.- 3

Ah yes, watch out for them Canucks! 😉

I use that two stage sight in the T34 with my normal “zoom” slider.
I can’t make any sense of the sighting arrangement in the ISU122, has anyone worked it out ?
-
Good point Crash, great to have you back Tonar sir !

First of all, congratulations to the 402nd ! It sounds like you boys had an even rougher time of things than we did regarding AAA.
Having said that we have concluded that the bosh troops manning the AAA you came across were almost certainly raw recruits whereas our chaps were seasoned veterans hence the difference in accuracy !? Just go with it! 😉😘
Seriously, bloody good show both 402nd and 485th.
We look forward to meeting 2nd Lt Iden Kare’s replacement as we are now a man down for the officers “knock out whist” fours team.

Agree with most of the points raised both by Friar and FT. I really enjoyed the mission on Saturday as it was a massive improvement on the one before. I liked the misdirection attempted by the Germans posing as Russians Friar put into the last mission particularly. Different comms worked well and smaller units with separate tasks was fun.
Adding a navigation challenge is a good idea as is including different types of tanks and self propelled guns. Imagine having to bring up a tank killer if you come across a Tiger or two. The fastest tank is the T34 so that could be used to scout with KV1s as the main battle tank? Travel speed would have to be reduced if ISU152 SPGs were needed for combat. More to think about and more fun ?
A more sever “penalty” for being killed might not be necessary if each played considers “no deaths” as important as a personal kill tally as a measure of a successful mission ?
I thought the number of respawn points was about right but maybe more enemy targets might be something to consider ?
My 2 cents 👍🏻
