  1. There is an excellent training film on the F4U, its located in the Pacific Fighters Main Page, Pacific Fighters Forum, under F4U Traing Film. Its about 20 minutes long (goes fast) but really interesting to watch. It was a WWII training film.

  2. I just read a post by B16Enk (Community Forum) where he recommended disabling non-essential network applications, windows update, virus update..etc. I had trouble with FS Autostart, is this another path to take down some applications kicking in and dropping me to desktop. I have to clk on the sim in the bottom tray to recover.

How and where do I disable these functions. Thanks

  3. Just finished "The Thousand Mile War" (I think that was the title) about the campaign for Aleutian Islands in WWII.

Unbelieveable the hardships those avaitors and grd troops endured. There were more casualties than any other battle, per capata. A sentence I liked, was something like this, No one will ever hear of this battle, had it been the Marine Corps, all would know of our struggle.

Great book, I can get a copy and send it if anyone is interested.

  4. ~S~ Just wanted to thank all who put up with my hosting last evening, some of the missions were long and took me a while to figure out the icons (radar). I plan to spend some time reviewing missions and cataloging them for future dates.

I learned a few things last night, enjoyed the experience and look forward to hosting again.

It went very late, usually I tire after 3 hours, but last nights 6 hours (Dazza saw the sun come up) I still felt fresh..

I'll see you all this afternoon, Thanks again

  5. Speaking of scared, last night about midnight we got a thunder storm, got up, turnoff and unplugged the computer. This morning when firing up, about 5 beeps and message stating " Computer chipset fan not working" and a lot of other sentences I iqnored trying to shut down.

My computer guru told me lightening did done me in, woe is me, a whole weekend of flying and no box.

To his shop, blew some air in the various fans (which I had also done a week ago) all quieted down, loaded fine.

So all turned out well, see everyone Saturday night.

    Happy ending....Pooka

  6. Not sure if this is what I've heard about and considered trying. I've heard how you can run the sim w/o having the disc inserted, is this what we have here. Could you explain further what takes place after dl the file. I'm no computer whiz so make any suggestions simple to understand. What is the benefit besides having to remove the disc occassionally?

    Thanks Roger..Pooka

  7. I've been with the Dogz for about 2 months, everyone makes you feel welcome, least I think so, so of the M8s from the UK

are mighty hard to understand. Welcome, in a few weeks you'll feel like an old salt.

  8. Need some advise on what hard drive to purchase, money isn't that much of a factor.

I'm now running a raptor 74Gb, 10K and want to host and store missions on another HD.

Is another Raptor best, say 150Gb :?: Another 74Gb (I don't think I have enough guts to try RAID) Or would a WD or Maxtor 150/200 Gb be just as good?

    Little help please...Pooka

  9. I started PF about 1 1/2 yrs ago, flew with many crashes (computer & plane) and after XMas put together my own setup.

    MOBO ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe

CPU AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego

    GPU ATI X850XT PCI-E

    Memory Corsair XMS3500LL 2GB

HD Western Digital Raptor 10K 74GB

    Sound Audigy 2 Zs

Things run much better now, only plane crashes, and lots of em.

    Aren't all the pipes open (16) on a X850XT ??
