But I wonder why it didn't slow down loading every time? Only the first time?
Disk access being monitored by it?
Cache = RAM therefore not scanned?

I was able to get a free key when changing mobo - had to phone through to do it though. Not sure how many times that can be done though...

Merry (and Happy) Christmas All!

You can update within Win 7 using the ISO - burn it to disk, whilst Win 7 is running insert the disk and it should prompt you to upgrade, it will do some updates but most of the data needed is on the disk.
At least that is how I did a couple of systems.

hehehe good one

DCS 2.0 is pretty damn good considering it is an Alpha.
Performance is superb on my old rig, and I can even get the Dora off the ground, and back
New X55 helps in that regard though.

So I have changed my HDD configuration (swapped my RAIDed SSDs for a single larger SSD) and reinstalled Windows 10 Pro using the USB key method - Previous installation was Win 10 Pro upgraded from Win 7 Ultimate. Completely vanilla install with no codes entered at any point.
So it would appear that the activation does not always have a problem - perhaps it's dependant on how much of the hardware is changed or maybe the HDD config is not part of the checks.
Or using a technet serial because I am tight causes issues

GPT can be a PITA as I found out, but only because I went from a UEFI to non UEFI board, and back to UEFI.
This necessitated completely reinstalling Windows each time.
Swapping UEFI capable boards should not present the same issue, and resilience is a big selling point along with > 2TB drive support for using GPT.

I phoned Microsoft, well they phoned me after I went through their web support options.
Nice chap from India entered a new key, Windows 10 Pro now activated.
Cost?
Zero apart from 15 minutes or so watching him use logme in

Result is in, Windows needs reactivating and a new key.
Only $200 for the pleasure, so Win 7 or 8 install and upgrade it is then.

There is a difference between OEM and retail versions of Win 7 and upgrade ability post 10, OEM is tied to the hardware, retail is not.
About to find out for myself today, replacing son's mobo and will have fingers crossed.
Will report back (my win7 keys are all technet so *should* be retail equivalents... ho hum).

Damn he must be using TOR to get access, need to work harder on preventing his radical message broadcasts...
Good to see you again Kelly!

lol... building stuff, then destroying it... I used to do that IRL 3D when I was a kid, lol... lots of stuff got built from the ground up... only to be destroyed later.. thanks Rox for making me relive that for a bit!
Plasticine..
Used to spend an age constructing intricate 'spaceships' including the control panels and occupants then 'crashing' them and doing an autopsy of sorts.
I should have had a therapist, probably still need one now...

Did Nick leave anything?
Or will he be selling something soon
-
As has been suggested neither install has a reliance or is linked in any way with the other.
Input configs would need to be saved, as has also been suggested.
Question is though, why?
Is your disk that full?
-
7 MBs is not the same as 7mbps
http://web.forret.com/tools/bandwidth.asp?speed=7&unit=MB%2Fs
Many people confuse the terms and quote MB when they mean mbp (I know you know this Nick just providing the info for others)

Impressive demo of it there Fen!
I need to reinstall DCS and grab the beta too.
-
I got it free too

You can do incredible stuff with Blender Snacko, and that is free
https://www.blender.org/features/
Very nice work there Rox, my son has been modelling swords and stuff in Blender so I know the skills at play here!

So why was the handler telling us to F Off at the end?
-
Perplexing indeed.
Have you tried a CMOS factory reset?
The delights of RAID 0 where no parity exists, and either drive having issues will result in meltdown.
http://knoppix.net/ has a disk test utility too, and is frequently updated.
Have turned on SMART reporting in BIOS too?

If you have a Western Digital or Seagate drive you can get a free copy of Acronis from their site.
This will clone the drive without issue (may have to do SSD > Seagate/WD > SSD though if no SSD by those makers).
