I thought DCSW2 was going to be free like the current version of DCSW but then I read this update and formed the impression they were going to charge for DCSW2. Having read it again (and other stuff on the DCSW forum) I now think they're just referring to a training map that was originally promised with the A-10C. Hence, FREE for those that purchased the A-10C beta (before the specified date) but also available via their e-store for those that want to buy it.

Outstanding...
Thanks Jack

For those who may not get this info via email, here's the latest newsletter which I've converted to .pdf for ease:

Is there someplace to ask for it, or do you have to wait for an invite?
Win7 (run the 'check for windows updates' - once the system has the latest updates installed, a message pops up asking if you want to accept Win 10 when it is available - well that's what happened to me anyway!

B16Enk,
Oh, I didn't realise the FW190 was going to be hard... it looks such a pretty little plane - surely not
Just off to to try it out now...

"....it's just a matter of how many sims there are to choose from versus time available to fly them"....
Why didn't I think of that!

DD_Arthur,
Out of interest, why are you holding back from buying 'anything new' until EDGE comes out?
You got me wondering whether there will be any compatibility issues using the current line up of of planes with EDGE?
Fingers crossed / hope not!

I wish M$ would wake up and smell the coffee.... maybe they have this time?
All Apple products are shipped with the OS, regular updates are free and new versions are either free or subject to a very nominal charge.
I've owned PC's since the earlier 80's but the only reason I have one today is for this damn flying.. Oh, and Racing and EuroTrucking!
For everything else it's MAC, MAC, MAC..... simples!

Thanks Jack,
This is a BRILLIANT tutorial.
My TrackIR 5 is set up very similar to his but I'm going to try tuning my zoom like his - this is something which has been bugging me

I plan to register my interest for the FREE upgrade but won't rush to install it. I hear what Snacko says and it sounds like a good plan but I would just be careful... here's why... I recently upgraded my hardware and installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 to a new SSD. When I booted the new system up, I received a message from Microsoft saying they had detected a new system build and required me to activate the OS by telephone.
Although a little protracted, this automated telephone process was successful and everything was OK. A few days later, I decided to hook up my old SSD as a slave to transfer important stuff across to the new SSD. My plan was to format the old SSD for future use when Windows 10 is released and keep Windows 7 on the other SSD as a fallback should there be any incompatibility issues with Windows 10.
However, as soon as I booted up the system, I got another message from Microsoft saying they had detected an illegal copy of the OS on my system... yeah... the one installed on the original SSD!
I decided to ignore this message, transfer my stuff pretty sharpish and format the drive. I haven't had any more messages since taking this action so clearly Microsoft knows if a system contains more than one instance of their OS.
So, I'm just a little hesitant to consider upgrading (when available) just in case there is no way to go back?
I'm always highly suspicious when something purports to be FREE!

DD_Arthur,
Thanks for your advice - mine may be a strange one... I paid for the 'Iron Cross' edition off a site which then emailed a key to me. I downloaded the game off the ROF site, tried to apply the 'key' and ran into problems - it was still a demo version. I emailed ROF, they confirmed the 'key' was legitimate and did 'something at their end' which removed the 'demo'. The game now loads fine although I must say I don't find the menu system very intuitive and it's taken me a while to find what planes I actually have - there's ten of them. Now, when I log onto the ROF site and go to the store, it shows I only only two planes. I emailed ROF again, this time asking what was going on with my planes and they stated that I have access to everything included in the 'Iron Cross' edition although these planes may not show up as 'purchased' in the ROF store ... does this sound right?
Snacko,
Good news these sales come round regularly, no urgency to react then... might resist temptation this time and try the planes I already own when I get a bit of spare time... you've also made another good point... I might not like the slower pace!
-
I didn't realise there are so many planes available in ROF...
This damn sale is soooo tempting...
Two questions:
What's the most popular planes?
Are the 'optional' modification packs worth the extra money?
-
Hi FT,
Nice to hear from you too...
There's a very good reason why I haven't been around much lately... it's because I got into a spot of trouble with the wife after sawing the legs off the kitchen table to make some pedals like yours - LOL
Nah... only joking... I been 'off the air' whilst upgrading my rig and of course ran into some issues. Then, once everything was back up and running, I got drawn into DCSW and have since been trying to balance my time between DCSW and CLOD whilst also making some custom 'touchscreen' profiles for my favourite planes.
Heading back online real soon... like tomorrow (all being well)

Hi Jabo,
Nice to hear from you...
I'm yet to make a start on ROF having bought the Iron Cross version following our previous conversation.
The 70% sale tempts you to buy the planes until you do the sums after adding everything including the 'optional' modifications packs for each plane to your basket.
Then the gulp... 72 squids!
So, I removed all the mod packs and it shaves a bit off... well 46 squids now... arghhhhhh
Stands back, has a re-think and quickly empties the basket!
Please bear in mind I haven't loaded the original game yet... too busy with DCSW, CLOD, etc etc
Dunno what to do... hate to miss a bargain (recent DCS one cost me a packet)....
I'm a sucker....
But, I don't smoke, drink little and constantly remind myself there ain't no shops in heaven!

To celebrate ROF’s 7th year on the market they're launching a 70% off sale on all game content (except ILYA Muromets and upcoming S-16)
