Interesting article where a researcher is putting forward the idea that the raid was a diversion in order to land commandoes to steal an enigma machine. http://www2.macleans.ca/2012/08/09/vindicating-dieppe/ A poorly planned raid nonetheless highlighting the ineptnes of the UK army uppers who placed more faith in 'class' than competetance (repeated in basically every service and every front of the entire war mind you...)
