Welcome to the DangerDogz Home!
Who are we?
The DangerDogz are an online Virtual Air Combat squadron flying the IL-2 Sturmovik franchise of flight simulators, from the seminal IL-2 1946, through Cliffs of Dover and more recently we migrated to the IL-2 Great Battles series as a more up-to-date platform. A number of our members also fly the Digital Combat Simulator series from Eagle Dynamics.
The group was formed in 2006 by our late CO, Jim ‘Blairgowrie’ Smith, to enable a small group of like-minded individuals to fly online together – this was fairly revolutionary by the standards of the day. Through promotion of the group on various forums by Jim and others, the DangerDogz rapidly grew and was soon a considerable number of people were regularly meeting up to fly missions usually hosted by Jim himself.
Something that the group has always prided itself on is its inclusivity. All are welcome, from complete newbies to battle-hardened veterans and because there is no grading, ranks or exams, everyone can get involved straight away. This doesn’t mean, however, that there is no help for new pilots. Our regulars are always willing to give advice, guidance and practical help for anyone in difficulty. We do have a no under-18's policy though, so please do not be offended if someone asks your age when you sign up.
Jim passed away in August of 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer and the group has continued since under the guidance of several senior members of the squad. As a mark of respect for Jim, we withdrew his squad number from use and renamed our main forum to 'Jim's Place' so his legacy continues to this day.
The group meets several times a week with attendance welcomed rather than expected. So sign up, post something in the main forum to introduce yourself and one of the squad will be along to point you in the right direction.
~S~ and welcome to the DangerDogz.
