Hey all.
We have encountered a disk issue that needs attention, one of the disks is throwing bad blocks and needs to be replaced.
Added to that we ran out of disk space this morning, during the backups, which resulted in the site being of line for a couple of hours.
Fortunately I had backed up our server fully to another, so I was able to delete some older backups and make space.
For the disk to be replaced I will need to take the system off line (the disks are mirrored in software for redundancy so no hot plug) and I will use this opportunity to spring clean by doing a format and rebuild.
In the interim I will bring up a shadow server, this will require a DNS change to a new IP so the forums and TeamSpeak etc will be down for about an hour.
I am planning on doing the work during Wednesday, some time in the morning Dogz time, to minimize impact of the disruption.
There will then be a second disruption once the hardware has been replaced and the server rebuilt, I am aiming for next Monday for this second and last stage.

Downtime? Frankly it's not good enough. From now on, I need advance notice of all outages. Including the unplanned ones...
Jabo.
P.S. On the other hand. TY for your hard work Rog.

OK stage one done.
Copying across the DogFight ladder server now.
Will have to change the port for it though as we will now have two running on this server!

Rog, do these changes affect the forums as well here?
I tried to upload a picture into a reply, that did not work, I could select the file using the 'Choose...' button, but next pressing 'Attach this file' made the 'Choose...' and 'Clear Selection' buttons disappear... and file was not uploaded.
Tried to upload it to the Gallery, but that showed a 'Server error 500'.

Ok I have now started the process of copying back to the original server.
I will be taking the Web and TS3 servers down tomorrow morning UK time at approximately 10:30 BST
Once again I will reconfigure DNS to point to the new IP and it should take effect within 15-20 minutes.
As previously experienced some of you use, thanks to your ISPs, sub-optimal DNS servers that may take several hours to update.
You can either start using OpenDNS.org servers for DNS now (it is free and they are very good and add in some nice features too) or put a host entry in your hosts file.
I will post details on the Maintenance page when I switch into maintenance mode, if you continue to see that page follow the instructions there!
Once this is done I will be scheduling down time for the DogFight servers.
Rather than bring them online on the primary Web Server I am going to rebuild the other server to serve better as a game server - for IL2, RoF and possibly RO2 HOS.
