Plane Loses Wing, Still Lands Safely!

Ballistic Recovery Chutes have been around for a long time, maybe 20 years. You can use them on experimental planes ie homebuilts. First time I've seen one in action.

Pretty comforting knowing they'll work on a worst case (lost wing).

If we could mod one for the P-39 I would be really happy.

BRS chutes aren't just for homebuilts- the Cirrus SR20/22 series have chutes as standard equipment, and chutes are certified for installation in C172 and others.

Impressive save, this is the sort of video that drives sales.

Funny, there was a lot of opposition to airframe chutes from pilots when Cirrus announced that they would make BRS standard. I love the idea of being able to grab the loud handle when all is going to hell in a handbasket- why do some pilots oppose it?
