i am looking at getting a new monitor, mostlikly a 22".

my question to the gurus is..

as i have a graphics card (gforce nvidia 9800gt pci express 1gb on board memory) with digital output, would i be a fool to get a monitor thats vga only?

any advice pointers welcome.

yep it would be, i would get a monitor with a dvi input and a vga input (just in caase you have an old comp lying about with vga only), the differance in quality is noticeable to a vga (analogue) input, the picture is sharper. if you want full hd as well for your gaming pleasure then this is good as my mate has one, i though have a 22inch with only 1680*1050 so im well jealous, and its a good make

illiyama 22 inch monitor

Perfesser, does the 2ms really work?

I got me both a 19" (4:3) and a 22" Samsung, and for both I need to disable 'RTA' on both to prevent a small blur behind dots/lods moving accross the screen. (Ghosting?)

Disabling RTA in fact sets response time back to 5ms, as RTA is a trick to (attempt to) improve response time.

I dunno, I haven't played with anything.

When I was looking for one I did a bit of research on 'gaming monitor'.

One of the most important things was refresh rate and they recommended 2-3 ms.

I just read 2 ms is about equal to 75Hz on a CRT for comparison.
