S! All

Here ya go, this works GREAT! I have some pics of needed supplies. 3/4 inch wooden balls ( I think 1/2 or 1/4 would work too I just haven't located any yet, and this was such an improvement I had to let it out before I did any more work).99 cents at hobby store and some reflective tape. You can get it from TrackIR or a Mechanics tool dealer and who knows where else. Mine is from my SnapOn tools infrared digital tach. And some sort of glue I used my Wife's Hot glue gun. Also an old pair of glasses mine are some cheap fishing glasses that had scratched lenses, I popped them out. I only used about 5 inches of tape, also sand on side of ball flat for the glue to adhere too. Now that it's out I'm sure others will be able to improve on it and tweak it some I'm sure. Either by ball size for more precision or mounting like on hats, or using clips,Or piercings, Nose, eyebrow,Hey the tongue, there ya go never turn your head fly with mouth open and wag your tongue :mock:

Here are pics.

After freeing up my Hat button for looking I reallocated it to Zoom Views.

icon_arrow_right.gif Normal Gunsight view

It was only natural to leave some sort of View stuff there, after so many years of Thumb looking anyways. :wink2:

And here is a couple of tracks of it being used. When viewing make sure you have manual view turned off so you see what I see.(that's the switch down position) Oh made with earlier TIR drivers on a Win 2000 machine, AMD 1400 512 pc133 ram LB was working then.

Here are some of it being use in video format at Youtube.

Look at this page for a cool video of it in action in Pacific Fighters.

This is way easier than the Infra red LED Mod

Besides I haven't seen any instructions on it anyways. Guys post stuff but seldom give the details, I'm from Missouri the SHOW ME STATE. :mh:

My mod works in the daylight and Dark too. I recorded track at 2pm with the sun shinning into the room. When you do it you will find that the TracIR stock setup on Deadzone is all you need, I have enough room to back away from sensor 5 feet and it never skips a beat.I was 2 1/2 foot from it during the track.

Below is a jpeg of my head travel. While in the pit. I used a short pencil in my mouth let it stick out about 1 inch. Then let it mark on note pad. then I retraced it with a felt tip for scanning.

Back in the day when we had one flat 1/4" dot, the camera would lose track of it and your viewing experience would stutter.

Even today if using the half rounded reflectors if you move too much, you can still cause it to lose track of you.

With the Balls, it will not unless you get up and leave, but it will see you as soon as you get back.

And it takes very little if any fiddling with a profile to make it work properly.

In a bright room, you will still need to adjust filters, and or remove background reflective, and light sources. There is no getting around that even if you're using a lighted headgear.

Track IR has no brains, it only reacts to what it sees, just as our eyes do if hit by a flash from the peripheral vision.

T_O_A_D's glowing balls really do work !

Using some green reflective tape (designed to be attached to clothing) I added some strips to a small ball (nicked from one of the kids "connect 4" games) and fitted it to the top reflector of my vector clip.

The left and right movement seems to be ok, it was the looking up that lost track.

This fix really does seem to have solved this problem.

Great post T_O_A_D and thank you

Plus 1 karma from me.

Just a suggestion here from my experience...

I was always having trouble with TIR cutting out in various situations - it especially would lose track in one direction or the other; not usually both. It would also not track linearly or smoothly.

I finally took a good look at my hat. It has wording on the front with a bit of silver colouring to it. I thought that maybe it was interfering with the reflectors, so I covered it up with black hockey tape (no, there isn't anything that hockey tape can't fix!)

Since then, I've had no TIR troubles at all in any conditions, day or night, lights off or on.

~S~ TOAD M8,

That's just what Ive been looking for to cure my TIR stutters and sticking. I tend to move my shoulders alot when flying so this fix looks to be just the ticket.

Thanks for taking the trouble to post

I reckon you should try two strips of Sellotape to cure that mate, one on each shoulder I find does the job of keeping the halter top straps nicely in place, and serves as a quick waxing too.

you could also use house aluminum foil and make balls with it.

u maybe not even need to have a reflective tape.

Tried that already, Foil does not have a high enough Luminous value, would make a ball for the tape I'm sure.
