TrackIR

Recommended Posts

Only red when profile is active, and I usually quit out of TiR agter use as I have noticed it can get flaky.

Same here. TIR3 pro

Could possibly be a bios setting or something on your mainboard that allows the pc to 'wake' on a command from a usb device? therefore always powered?

I dunno - just thinking (typing) out loud.....

In case you think back light is getting in, I covered my computer, camera, head with a blanket excluding all ouside light.

Same result with the red and green flickering screen.

I am going to try cleaning out the drivers and reinstalling again, just in case.

I am determined to get this fixed.

Jim:

What are your tracking settings?

tir1.jpg

These are the ones I am using to good effect, the dot size is critical as is Object Type.

You seem to be picking up on a single dot, not the Vector clip.

Is the vector expansion enabled too?

This is what I got back from Natural Point Forum.

In the registry we need to make the following changes:

NOTE: Be sure to remove any entries in "Add/Remove Programs" for the TrackIR software.

1. Removing the USB ID's for the TrackIR in the registry and any multiple copies. You can access the registry by

doing the following:

A. Click "Start" then "Run".

B. Type: "Regedt32" and press "Enter".

C. When it's loaded be sure to give yourself "Full Control" permissions for "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE". You

can do this by right-clicking on it.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet00x\Enum\USB

NOTE: The above might have multiple entries where "ControlSet00x" might be "001" and "002" and so on.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB

All of these braches needs the following entries removed:

- Vid_131d&Pid_0155

- vid_131d&pid_0150

- VID_0547&PID_1002

NOTE: Please let me know which of these where found.

2. We also need to remove our USB driver services. There also may be multiple copies as well.

"NPUSB" is what you would want to delete.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet00x\Services\NPUSB

NOTE: The above might have multiple entries where "ControlSet00x" might be "001" and "002" and so on.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NPUSB

3. Also delete any entries that have this string:

- 5&206F11E9&0&2

That's the extent we need deleted from the registry.

4. Now we need the following files deleted from the C:\Windows\INF folder.

- NPUSB3.INF

- NPUSB3.PNF

The following file is located in: C:\WINNT\system32\drivers

- NPUSB.SYS

5. Now we can install the current drivers for the TrackIR. Link is below for convenience.

NOTE: Do not connect the TrackIR before installing this software!

http://media.naturalpoint.com/software/ ... .Final.exe

After the software is installed reconnect the TrackIR and it should allow the driver to be installed

Properly this time into the "Device Manager".

I see they have asked you to use regedt32 as opposed to the usual regedit.

Subtle but profound differences, like permissions etc.

Fingers crossed that that resolves it for you BG.

Hi B16. Here are the results. Not good m8

Removed all Track IR components via Add/Remove.

Under control set 001 and 003 I found entries for -vid_131d&pid_0155. When I tried to delete them I got a message

"Cannot delete vid_131d&pid_o155. Error while deleting key.

Was able to delete the NPUSB entries in both control sets.

Could not find any entries with 5&206F11E9&0&2

Could not find C:\Windows\INF folder

Did a search for NPUSB3.INF and NPUSB3.PNF but could not locate

Deleted C:\Win\System32\drivers\NPUSB.SYS

Reinstalled Final1.exe

Rebooted.

Connected Track IR 3 camera

Searched for drivers and appeared to install ok but got an error message saying error and hardware might not work. No lights came on in unit and it would not function. Repeated above steps three times with no success.

Took unit to a back-up computer where it worked perfectly.

Did a Windows XP reformat 2 weeks ago on my primary computer.

Just a quick heads up. I'm sure Rog is aware and on top of this but there was a reported security bug in ver 4.1.1.

A user could gain access to your machine WITHOUT knowing the VNC password.

Don't start panicking too quickly. IF you have windows passwords and leave your machine locked or logged off then chances of breach are minimal. If you dont have passwords the the chances are still minimal as your a needle in a haystack that probably has a very small internet footprint for someone to be bothered in gaining access. ie your not a large server.

Good security measures are:

Use passwords to safe guard user accounts.

When using VNC consider setting lock windows on disconnect. (when accessing remotely.)

Turn it off when finished with (when using it to help others)

Use Windows standard "Blank screen" screen saver with password protection. (all your programs continue to run but you must use your password to get back in)

S!

Very good points Chris.

I always encourage the setting of a good strong logon password for windows, it's far less inconvenient to have to log on than it is to undo the ravages left by some pimply twat having 'fun'.

With VNC I also have stated, and perhaps should re-iterate, that it should NOT BE INSTALLED AS A SERVICE better to enable it as and when the need requires :).

It is great having you on board Chris, your technical knowledge is only second to your ability to pepper my arse .
