Nero do a trial version which is fully functionally and can be taken from its trial with the use of a licence number when purchased :)

The svchost thing was up and down like Brenda's draws but it would stick at 100% for far too long.

thanks for the other night by the way. i have "had strong words with kids" about using short cust to log off. I must admint i thought that i had disabled it, but perhaps i only did it on my account not thinking that it had to be done on the others as well.

Drag and drop will not create a bootable cd, you have to go the image burning route.

PowerISO is also a very good burning utility, I use it in preference to Nero.

You don't need to assign drive letters Colin.

PowerISO can mount ISO images as virtual CD drives, you are unlikely to need this.

It can also open ISO files as though they were zipped files, and you can extract from them.

For you te main use will be to open PowerISO, click 'Burn' , tick 'Image file' (should be only option any way) then click the button to the right with the '...' to browse to where the ISO file is.

Then click 'Burn'.

Voila!

You now have a bootable memtest CD.

If you right click the PowerISO system tray icon you can select 'disable' to disable the virtual CD drive option.

Ok problem sorted.

I was using the software from my account which does not have admin rights.

when i logged in to the admin account, it was as you described with the correct drive letter in view.

burn went ok

now to test it on the laptop..........
