Appetite For A Combined Tank And Air Mission As A Special Sunday Event?

Salute,

With the introduction of the Typhon I was wondering if there would be any interest in us running a special event on a non P38 Sunday that involved tanks and planes (DDZ v AI)

I am thinking something on the Rhineland map (whilst we wait for Normandy) where by Shermans are advancing but come up against a stronghold, and have to call in some air strikes?

I could throw in some air to air for the fighter jocks to clear the skies first, some ground units for the Shermans to attack on route?

What do we think?

Any embellishments to the idea welcome.

Advice please...

What sort of Axis planes should the Typhon (and Tempest for those that do not have BON yet) be coming up against please?

The scenario would be Germans defending a key town so are not sparing any resources to defend it?

Also fighter cover, P51's? as well?

Your advice would be appreciated.

Cheers

Friar

FW190A3  might be a good match for Typhoons ? Ju 87 having a go at our advancing tanks maybe ?

Not sure if P51 escort would make it too easy ?

Numbers will be crucial for balance probably?

My idea (if I can work it all out) would be to give the sky jocks a bit of a dogfight to clear the skies first, whilst the tanks are on their way.

The tanks then engage the enemy, when they meet some well dug in targets they call in air support.

The Fw Dora and bf 109 g14 would be decent planeset for Luftwaffe at the time for dogfighting but would need something that carries 500 lb bomb to touch tanks, so Fw 190 A6 or A8 has that option as does bf 110

I'd prefer peer adversaries; if it's Shermans and the Western Front Rhineland map then I suggest go reasonably authentic:

If it's Autumn/Winter 1944 then: Spitfire IX and XIV, Tiffie, Tempest, P-51, P-38 and P-47D (no 150 octane) vs Fw 190A-6/A-8/D-9, Bf 109G-6 late/G-14/K-4 and a limited number of Me 262.

If it's Winter/Spring 1945 then: Spitfire IX and XIV, Tiffie, Tempest , P-51, P-38 and P-47D (150 octane for the RAF birds only) vs Fw 190A-8/D-9, Bf 109G-14/K-4 and a limited number of Me 262.
