BoS won't launch after 3.001 update

Recommended Posts

Hey folks,

First long post and wouldn't you know it's about a problem.

Since the 3.001 update, game CTD every time I try to start a "mission" whether it be quick, career, etc. Offline or online makes no difference.  Have deleted and re-downloaded the updates folder numerous times.  Just completed an 18hr ordeal of uninstalling and downloading the entire game and it worked once.  After it worked the one time, I shut my PC down, came back and relaunched everything as usual, trackIR, MSI gaming app, fan controller, etc. Although I bought and downloaded from the IL2 site, Steam is running in the background, always has been. On game relaunch, it crashes to desktop either at the login screen (rare) or when I try to start after selecting any mission.  Always the same error about something going wrong (their words) and reporting it to Microsoft and then given no option except to shut the game down.  Not sure where to go from here except to abandon this game. I wanted to get Kuban, but if I can't get Stalingrad to work, not sure that would be wise.  CLoD works fine, DCS works fine.  PC is a home built (by me) of fairly new origin and everything checks good.  I have cleaned up all SSDs and done what I can to keep a fairly clean PC.  I am on a 50mb fiber connection hard wired to the router.

Looking for ideas on where to go from here in my search to make this work. Thanks.

Thanks guys,

Jab, no I haven't looked at the Event Viewer (pardon my ignorance, but is that in game?).

DD_Arthur, yes, the game ran fine before this upgrade. I did have this CTD  problem right after a previous update, but it "cured" itself and worked for a long while. My video card is a GTX 1060 6gig.

What does this error message say Bill?

Very generic "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available "

The event viewer is a windows application which records information about software running on your rig (amongst other things). You can find it by right-clicking the windows icon in the bottom left of your desktop, select 'Computer Management, expand 'Event Viewer' (click the arrowhead), expand 'Windows Logs' then finally clicking 'Application'.

Once you're in the application log, you need to look for errors occurring at the times when BoS has crashed. If you can't be sure try running the game to the point where it fails and then immediately check the log file. When you click on an error, the log will tell you which application has crashed and will give you an error code (like 0x5776ade0 for instance) - This code sometimes is useful to tell us what's happened. If you can post that error up we can look at things in a bit more detail.

Thanks Jabo,

Found the Event Viewer.  Found every instance of the crash and can find no variables changing.. always the same error

The link below is the first one that comes up when you google the error code...not exactly your error but gives me an idea.

https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/34673-instant-crash-in-3001-htc-vive-2d-resolved/

You mentioned on FB that you were running an MSI gaming app. Try a restart and launch the game without running the app and see if that resolves the problem.

You may have hit the nail on the head.  Shut down the gaming app and the game launched and seems to be ok.. tried running the gaming app again and then restarting from the launcher and game crashed. I was only using it for the slight overclock I can get from it on my video card.. doesn't seem to make that much of difference without it...

Thanks so much.

Thanks again... fly a quick mission in a P40 (damn I am rusty) but everything seems to work okay.  No problems with anything that I can see but damn, I got a lot of key bindings to work on.  I am retired so time zones are not an issue for me and if I can get enough practice in before then so I don't embarrase myself to badly I will see ya'll Wednesday.

Later all~
